D_ManXX2 Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Ever since modding for skyrim i seem to have a hard time making my list small. I always start small then after a few mods my list start to grow exponantioly and the real trouble starts when mods require many other mods to work. Â Most noticble are sexlab mods. even without sexlab mods my current list 90 mods. but most of them are essential. So this makes it really hard creating stable game. Â Even though i use mod organizer i was never able to lower my list to accaptable numbers.
Fitness Bunny Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Well, what type of roleplay are you into? We can start from that, and choose which mods and elements you need and which you don't. Â The second thing I'd suggest is configuring your mods according to your hardware, i.e. not always choosing 4k instead of 2k or 1k, for the sake of stability and performance.Â
myuhinny Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I haven't done it much for skyrim but for oblivion I keep my list down because I made myself a .esp and added some chests to a place that I could get to easily. Then whenever I found a armor/outfit mod that I liked I just unzipped it dropped the mesh and texture folder where it needed to go and threw away the rest then added the armor/outfits to my .esp and away I went. Also this way you can add what you want instead of installing a mod for just one item.
TurboCheeks Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 What is your definition of "stable"? Does your Skyrim often crash randomly while playing or are you having in-game problems? I have 123 mods active on my list, mostly essential and some unessential but my game still seems to run as smooth as butter. I honestly don't think that 90 is a huge list.
Fitness Bunny Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 What is your definition of "stable"? Does your Skyrim often crash randomly while playing or are you having in-game problems? I have 123 mods active on my list, mostly essential and some unessential but my game still seems to run as smooth as butter. I honestly don't think that 90 is a huge list. It's not all in the numbers. If majority, or even dozen of his mods are script-related, then he could have issues, regarding both performance and stability. On the other hand, if mods he uses are purely graphical, like HD textures, meshes and models, it puts more stress to a GPU/RAM. That's the reason why I also asked him how much powerful is his rig, so we can build up on that for a start.
Veladarius Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 I am nearly at the limit of esp/esm's with about 1/4 being armor / weapon mods and the only crashes I get are occasional ones from SexLab mods not playing nice with each other. A lot of mods don't cause problems, some mods themselves cause problems either due to its instability or it has a major conflict with another mod running or it contains a lot of large textures that overpowers the gpu. I have had a number of mods I liked that I have had to remove because it caused instability.
Kissinger Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Use the merge plugin for TES5Edit to liberate some esp slots. Â Armor/weapon mods in particular can be merged to a single esp with no real drawbacks as long as they are not a dependency of another mod.
D_ManXX2 Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 my mod list consist mostly out of immersion mods like  hunterborn, immersive armor, sperg etc..  stuff that make skyrim feel more alive without those skyrim is not fun too play. But usually when i add sexlab to the list my save games increase rapidly in size. even though there are no rouge scripts happening.  But many mods from sexlab has many dependecy that where the stability goes down the drain. i don't mind 1 dependency but when it's too 6 like those mods from DD that is where it starts.  Without mods my save game seem to be 3 mb, but with mods my save game rises to over 15 mb. Maybe i am just pushing my pc too much.  But having a small list is impossible. because all of the required once like unoffcials patches alternate start etc.. also takes the list.  My pc is windows 7 64 bit 16 gig ram Nvidia 560 TI 2 gig ram [actually it says 2700 mb] Intel quad core I5 3.3 GHz 2 T hard-drive  i use ENB boost also the memory patch from SKSE not sure what else i can do.
Veladarius Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 The save increases as there are a lot of variables from quests / scripts that are saved as well, mine currently run 7-9 mb. Â As far as system goes I have the same except for video card, I have a 3gb R280 currently but I was using a 2gb 7850. The only thing I changed when I upgraded was I turned up the graphics settings on the enb quite a bit, the 7850 handled everything fine at 40-50 fps. Â Â The thing that will slow things down are mods that check the surroundings on a regular basis, if you have a lot of them that check something every 5-10 seconds it can be noticeable.
Fitness Bunny Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 . The thing that will slow things down are mods that check the surroundings on a regular basis, if you have a lot of them that check something every 5-10 seconds it can be noticeable. I've noticed this happenig to my game a lot. When the PC walks down the city or hiking through the woods, it seems that every 5 to 6 seconds something is cycling in the script, makin it "check something" thus causing a bit of jitter to smoothness of the gameplay. Now, I suppose my rig isn't the issue here, since I'm packing a Quad @3.7Ghz, 8GB DDR3, 2GB GPU with ENBoost enabled, and as for the "HD mods" replacing the textures, I use just two grass&ground texture overhauls, and Sevenbase textures, 2k & 4k.  The thing is, I do have like a dozen or so, script mods in MCM menu, some of them being Enhanced Blood, Convenient Horses, SL, SOS, Dynavision, VioLens and few anim packs.  Do you think holding so many mcm-tunable mods might be an issue? What's your number on them?
Veladarius Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 No, it depends on the mods themselves, I have about 40 different MCM menu's active right now with no issues. Convenient Horses has a 'Gameplay Script Latency Test' option on its main menu and will give you an idea of how fast your scripts are running. Even with everything I have running I am at 40-45 ms (milliseconds). Â The mods to look at are any that scan and make changes to the environment or npc's constantly. Â As far as textures I use 2k + only on bodies, 2k or less on armor / clothing (usually 1k), 1k and less on landscape and 512 on lod.
Veladarius Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 If you are using SexLab Nude Creatures (latest version) or SexLab Werewolves they are set to poll the area every 5 seconds but it can be adjusted in the MCM menu.
D_ManXX2 Posted April 5, 2015 Author Posted April 5, 2015 i will have to check nude creatures and sexlab werewolf since i seem to have both of them. maybe that is causing the encrease in crashes lately. Â I have also read on enb boost forum section that certain parts of enb boost is not working right when you use skse mem added ini. But they never mentioned what part it is.
Fitness Bunny Posted April 5, 2015 Posted April 5, 2015 Â Â I have also read on enb boost forum section that certain parts of enb boost is not working right when you use skse mem added ini. But they never mentioned what part it is. Â Â I've read about this too. The line regarding the ExpandSystemMemoryx64 conflicts with SKSE memory plugin if set to true.
Fitness Bunny Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Removed my HDT hairs today. Gave me a significant boost in framerates and stability, so my suggestion would be removing some of those not-so-essential physics mods if you have too much of 'em.
Veladarius Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 HDT physics is handled by the GPU from what I understand. When I first started using HDT with my 7850 it dropped by 10 - 15 fps.
Fitness Bunny Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 HDT physics is handled by the GPU from what I understand. When I first started using HDT with my 7850 it dropped by 10 - 15 fps. That's strange. I thought physics were CPU's job. All those lines in SKSE.ini regarding number of cores for using HDT, were for nothing?
Veladarius Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I may be wrong, it was something I remember reading some time ago, shortly after it was released.
volfin Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 Join the club, I recently hit the 255 limit, and I've been merging and removing a few, but it only grows right back. Heck, I still have about 50 mods in my 'yet to try' queue. Â But yes, even with all that (and HDT to boot) my game runs rock solid. the only recent crashes I've had were due to PapyrusUtil 3 Beta 3 (had bugs in the skse DLL).

How'd you make it that stable if runing so many mods?
Veladarius Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 If you are crashing regularly: 1) Use something like the Skyrim Performance Monitor to see if you are overloading your system with textures or have some settings too high 2) Check your papyrus log for errors. If you see ones that repeat on a regular basis (every few minutes or more) either fix the issue (conflicting mod) or remove it. 3) Don't assume that because the game crashes at a specific point that whatever was running is the cause, if something else is causing a problem and another mod that works does something it may be enough to cause a crash. Â Things to avoid: 1) Removing heavily scripted mods - the properties from the scripts are saved in your game along with a number of other things from it and it will cause script errors. 2) Updating or adding mods - if a mod changes a lot of things in the world it can cause issues, especially if it is something that another mod relies on. Â There have been a number of mods that I liked but caused instability so I removed them and don't use them any more.

You've mentioned it's important to take care of heavily scripted mods, and their removal to be taken with strict caution as well. I reccon you used lots of save game cleaners&optimizers, can you recommend one you found most reliable?
Veladarius Posted April 6, 2015 Posted April 6, 2015 I don't use save cleaners or LOOT and I still use NMM.  As it stands I have not played a character all that long before starting another one, maybe until level 20-25 at the most. Veladarius Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 That merge script works pretty well, I have used it to combine a number of items together before.
