Kernel39 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Can you overwrite .dds files with your own custom ones without using programs like GIMP and photoshop? I noticed that you can't copy and paste over .dds files for some reason.
Erundil Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 You can't copy and pate DDS files? Why not? It's a file like any other and you should be able to copy/move/rename/delete them normally within windows. If you can't then you most probably have something terribly messed up in your system. On a side note - Gimp is not the only program that can edit DDS files (although it's my favourite). You might use for example Photoshop (requires special NVidia plugin). And there are other programs that can edit DDS files (but I don't feel like googling them atm).
Kendo 2 Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Need to check your permissions. For Skyrim I had a problem will ALL of the files installed by Steam and I had to take ownership of the folders to change anything.
bjornk Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I noticed that you can't copy and paste over .dds files for some reason. It could be a problem related to your file/directory permissions, or file attributes, or locked files (i.e. currently in use for some reason) etc.
techiespeek Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Right click the file and look in properties for the "Read Only" attribute check box, if it is checked than this is what the problem is.
