Lord Ariakas Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Hi guys. I have a serious problem and I could not figure out what it could cause it. I am using loads of texture mods also loads of other mods, I got 255( +32) with two bashed patches.(just armors and weapons) Enb: K southern Lights Extreme but I set SSAO to medium. My config is Processor i7 4770k Gpu 2x R9 290X in crossfire, 8 gb ram, SSD drive. What is happening: The game runs fine, I would say smoothly with no lags or stutter at all. If I get close to riverwood, Windhelm, or Whiterun, the game goes crazy, I got massive lag, the game turns into a slideshow. Sometimes I need to wait a good 30 seconds to get some movement on the screen, it is completely frozen. I noticed if I move out of the area suddenly everthing goes back to the holy smoothness and the game is flawless again. I cannot even look into that direction where are these cities/settlements. For example when you go to bleakfalls barrows and there is that tower halfway above riverwood with the bandits. If I am standing there and rotate until I look down to riverwood BAMM slideshow. I have skyrim HD textures overwritten by Tamriel HD reloaded I got Skyrim flora overhaul with detailed tree lod and riverwood got an overhaul as Whiterun as well, but I tried to remove them and I still got the same lags, so it seems not them causing it. I tought that could be the NPC mods, but oddly enough if I go into Whiterun it is smooth despite the insane amount of NPCs(3D npcs, Npc overhaul, Inconsistent Npcs(or something like that) and whenever I have a fight with lots of Npcs it is not lagging at all. My second thought was the Vram overload, but I don't get black/missing textures and when I move out from the affected area the game suddenly become smooth. Any ideas? As I said at other areas the game is smooth, no lag or stutter.
Guest Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Too much of a good thing, you need to post your load order because no one can help you otherwise and having loads of npc's in cities can cause extreme lag because scripts may be applying to all of them at once for instance: beeingfemale checks every female for prego/menstration SL arousal checks everyone for arousall state HDT Physics Bounciness glorious breasts WetnCold applies raingear/snowgear drops breath and snow effects Now you can kind of see why you can get script lag but because of your texture gathering craze you forgot the number 1 rule! Playability over Beauty.
sunder02 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I had a similar problem while using some custom made skyrim.ini and skyrimpref.ini files by a modder that greatly boosted the loading distance of the game and a whole bunch of other stuff , turns out you were never supposed to use those with mods that boost the graphics of the game , since you would run out of memory in certain places and crash or stutter and suffer frame rate dips , I thought it was the mods but it was as simple as the .ini files, check those for yourself ,if that's not the problem ,see the Skyrim project stability over at the nexus http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/32363/? , those guys have a lot of suggestions on what might cause problems with the game , stuff I myself didn't even consider until I read about it. yatol Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Now you can kind of see why you can get script lag but because of your texture gathering craze you forgot the number 1 rule! Playability over Beauty. funny how everyone is saying scripts, scripts, scripts, when the most logical reason are textures when i made a natural rain real rain splash of rain mashup, when it was raining, i had a message about skyrim failed to save after removing pure weather, jk, tamriel... it was fast to see the problem was my pureweather esp, but there was nothing wrong with it tried to load the failed saved in save game cleaner, it work, a popup about scripts, took a look, put a filter, more than 1000 of something, and the something was splash of rain one script per rain drop, with that rain, i was running so many scripts the game wasn't able to put them all in a save it's just scripts, that were all loading the same texture if a rain drop hit the ground, didn't saw any fps drop or stutter in game, only saw there was a problem when i tried to save here's a small test ultra lod low lods don't really know what that do, lod are a mess in my game not that much difference

Got almost same system but crossfire is not needed at all in skyrim i run 2560x1440p and have around 45 fps with sometimes hick up but thats skyrim for yah. I got Seasons of Skyrim as ENB with latest version ENB. Have 253 mods in stalled with almost everything 4ktexture. Heavy enviroment mods weather and many other mods that give immersion. But all my mods work well together i avoid scripted mods as many as i can, these give problems most of time. Game runs smooth. Z97 xpower MB 4970k cpu oc 2x 290x oc but enable only 1 card which is enough. Crossfire sucks in Skyrim.
bjornk Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I cannot even look into that direction where are these cities/settlements. For example when you go to bleakfalls barrows and there is that tower halfway above riverwood with the bandits. If I am standing there and rotate until I look down to riverwood BAMM slideshow. Here's a bunch of ideas... I'm not sure if NPCs in Riverwood are visible from that kind of distance, but that depends on your INI settings (ugrids etc). Also, modded textures may not be the issue but modded meshes might be. If you have any city/town/flora overhaul mods that add or change meshes (new buildings, new trees etc.), or change the LOD, one of those might be the culprit. It could also be a path-finding issue, which could be related to NPCs and/or a corrupt navmesh. Look for the mods that change navmeshes around these areas. I know that some lighting mods cause severe lag on low end systems, but your graphics cards should be able to handle that kind of thing.
Lord Ariakas Posted March 5, 2015 Author Posted March 5, 2015 Hmmm, thank you guys for the help, this is what I thought too, I don't think it would be a texture problem, and I don't think it would be a script problem either. The reasons: Textures: I got this problem near cities. If I just walk in the wilderness (I got it all, ENB, COT COTweather patch high res textures tree lod...etc.) I have no problem at all. If it would be the textures the system should commit suicide. Trees mountains rivers, monsters critters. Script: Again, if this is some kind of periodic check on npcs why it is just outside of Whiterun Windhelm and Riverwood? If I am inside Windhelm or Whiterun no problems and I have dozens of npcs swarming around me. Other cities not lagging (oddly enough) namely Morthal and Winterhold. (Riften is a bit dodgy but I got insane amount of fog there pecause of cot, so maybe that is understandable.) Also I got immersive patrols installed. Between Helgen and Ivarstead I used to bump into 30-40 npcs, stormcloaks and imperials massacring each other. If it would be a script overload related to npcs then surely I should have the same problem. I am not saying it is not stopping for a second when all the npcs turn up, but then it is smooth. I am not using higher UGRID settings and my ini is not tweaked that much at all, because I know it is not safe to do so. I found that I need the crossfire, if I turn it off Skyrim become a bit laggy. If I turn it on it is smooth so probably I need the extra power. I am using the autumn of whiterun and sky Riverwood redeveloped. Also I am using SMIM and Tamriel HD reloaded Skyrim Flora overhaul some lod stuff. Could be some navmesh/city mod mesh mod clash maybe. I will post my load order when I get home. The way down to Whiterun from Riverwood is smooth but when I got to the meadery unless I look to the ground I got the slideshow. Hmmm also: another reason why script lag cannot be the problem. If I look to the ground the lag is disappearing. As I look up the lag coming back too...As I left the Whiterun cell the problem disappears. I still get the lag when I am at the western watch tower and looking towards Whiterun if that is helps.
bjornk Posted March 5, 2015 Posted March 5, 2015 Try disabling Immersive Patrols (and other such mods) while you're somewhere far away from these areas, and see if it makes any difference. I have used a similar mod once (Populated series) and it did cause noticeable stuttering in my game and I had to remove the mod. Maybe Immersive Patrols has some spawn locations for Riverwood or Whiterun? The number of NPCs is not important, if they stand there without doing much, you won't see any difference in the game. When they require more AI processing however (while fighting and/or path-finding) your CPU will struggle and that may turn your game into a slide show. Bad navmesh can make it even worse. If you want to test this, just drop a dozen or more of hostile NPCs into water (sea, river etc where they'd have to swim to reach you or run away from you) and see what happens. But of course LOD, mesh enhancing mods may cause similar problems.
Lord Ariakas Posted March 6, 2015 Author Posted March 6, 2015 The only thing which is strange that I always used immersive patrols and extra npcs.Maybe some new mod is just running scripts on these npcs and create a deadly combination? I recently changed my enb to Southern light, so I will try to disable city enhancing mods and roll back the enb to the old one. Then if it is still happening then I will sit down and scratch my head. Or Tamriel HD reloaded parallax effect? At whiterun there is almost no NPCs. Carriage driver, a guard, 2 city guards, 3 khajits from the caravan and the stablemaster. Not a lot compared to the inside area.
Lord Ariakas Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 Problem solved. Climates of tamriel + weather patch + K enb + all textures+ city/town mods was a bit too much. I got rid of COT, lag is gone. Thanks for the help.
