Can't "Play" Skyrim anymore

Recommended Posts

Trying to rebalance the game to what I would find interesting have been my on going task recently.

Every time I feel like I am on to something a new game mechanic shows up and I have to adjust for it.

So far I have been tinkering around with some of these:

No health level up

No smithing perk

Higher level enemies

Better enemies equipment

Another mod that I have found to be incredibly useful for tailoring the game to my liking is SkyTweak. Maybe you'd like to play where you hit the enemies for full damage (adept difficulty) while taking 3x damage from them (legendary), well now you can. You can tailor xp rates, change training costs, spell potency, damage done and damage taken, and much more.

One of my all time favorite mods!

its easy to get bored with a game for a while, i stopped with TTW FNV Atm because im still waiting for a few updates

Skyrim for a long time because i was bored with the lack of content and the shitton of crappy japanese mods on nexus

now im back because saw PerMa and a few mods like Ultimate combat, PCEA, Spears by soolie and now Follower as a Companion

Once I start the modding process in earnest the game is dead to me.  And everything Bethesda makes is so linear that once you play through a quest line twice you have heard every line of dialogue and they all circle back to 'go-here-do-this' and a dungeon crawl.  I wish I could add content to ME3 and Batman Arkham the way I could Oblivion, FO3/NV and (to some extent) Skyrim.  Skyrim is shit anyway.

Couple hundred hours and hundreds of quest explore most map without mods. Then started to mod skyrim with enb and textures and find stuff that make it immersive also much harder gameplay.

Had already UNP installed but no real further tweaking.

Now 2800 hours later im only making characters search armor clothes hair and many more to enhanced my characters so they look beautiful.

Around 2000hours i dont play just tweak and make characters.

Still like it try find a mod that give even more immersion or better textures or improved skin for my female characters i make.

Skyrim still keep me busy.

Im waiting for The Witcher 3 and modding tools, looking forward to this game.

I get bored and end up re-installing with new mods for a new playthrough until i get bored of it, have yet to actually finish the game though, but i have finished most of the faction quests.

I finished it once in 1,200 hours of gameplay. Thanks Steam for enumerating my wasted life. :s

I don't play Skyrim as I would another game in a sense of just beating it. I don't want to be successful in a world entirely created by another mind without input of my own. That wouldn't feel as a success, it would just be adapting to the terms and conditions of the game developer. Doesn't give me any rewarding feeling.

Skyrim is different because of its moddability. It's more a kind of "coming home feeling", a home that I molded according to my own ideas - from landscape to player character to NPCs to combat to quest lines etc. And I don't need to do quests at all to like playing Skyrim. Sometimes it's enough for me to stroll about the vast landscape, do some dungeon crawls here and there and yes, have some ingame sex. I don't fap to it, to me it just adds to the authentic feel of the gaming experience - as far as a fantasy world can be authentic, that is.

I don't start from level 1 anymore. I don't find satisfaction in grinding my level up anymore - been there, done that dozens of times. I start from higher levels with the enemies also leveled up and enhanced with various mods.

I don't expect Skyrim to keep my adrenaline level high at any given time. I expect it to keep me amused. And it still can literally glue me to the PC for 8 hours in a row.

Additionally I am getting a bit deeper into mesh editing which at times CAN give me an adrenaline rush out of pure annoyance, but I can be very tenacious when I want to learn.

All in all it's still a fascinating experience. But then I also must say that I don't know how boredom feels at all. I'm never bored.

If it helps anyone, I'd suggest to approach Skyrim not as a game you want to finish but as an escapism that you can mold to your own needs. Everyone needs that from time to time. Don't rush it, don't expect to be constantly fascinated and thrilled to the max, just relax and find calm enjoyment. Modding stuff and playing your own content also gives replay value.

On PC,I like to think of Skyrim as Minecraft but with a much better base to build upon or,with the right mods, like the Sims but with decapitations.

I already played it to death on Xbox 360 so that is all that I really wanted with it. So long as there are amusing mods to goof around with and utilities which allow me to record all of the highlights,I'll remain satisfied with it.

That I got so many years of play from a single game whereas most games(which aren't made by either Platinum Games or Volition) don't even rate a single complete playthrough is an impressive feat.

Mods like Deadly Reflex and DMC Stylish really saved Oblivion for me. Makes the melee combat much more interesting.

Skyrim never really got something to match that. And it's basically the same floaty combat as before. FO3's a bit better at replayability when it comes to combat since it's mostly ranged and the projectiles hit their target faster, instead of having to pull your hand back, releasing, and watching your spells float by badguys running sideways, gliding across the terrain.

Using level uncappers and increased enemy spawn mods help a bit though.

I came back after a long time of break, what keeps me playing is probably my roleplaying mindset.

I enjoy immersing myself into character that I play (except my character is female and I wouldn't go around asking for free sex once in awhile).

Because I like archer type, I play as archer with a few followers that can take the front line for me or heal me during the battle.

Also, I keep the follower number minimal so that it keeps the game challenging while making it not impossible (those monsters from immersive creatures are tough!)

However, I dislike restricting myself for perk points (simply because I want so many things at once), so I get the mod that allows me to add skill points and try not to spam too much.

Also, I try not to zoom through all the story line or fast travel, instead I enjoy the views (ENB yeahhh) and try to do as much battle as possible, and clear dungeon/camp whenever I feel like to.

In my opinion, just going through the quest line seems pretty boring. So I would randomly branch off for something else and try to take my time while doing it (so no caravan/fast travel for me most of the time).

I was smart when I first got it years ago and played the game through without any Mod's at all, got to Lv50 something blah blah fun stuff OP'd enchanting blah blah.

Well once I started adding mod's, all I've ever done with Skyrim is load mod's, look at 'em for 5 minutes, if it's a weapon or spell I will spawn 100 guards and blow 'em away, then I Alt+F4 and I'm done with the game. It's ridiculous, I just cannot enjoy playing this game anymore. :/

I do enjoy the mindless slaughter, but it gets old.

I enjoy the Sexlab stuff since porn is always nice and Skyrim has great graphics for it, but that's about the most constant use I have for Skyrim is now- Fap material -_-"

Anyone else experiencing this... Skyrim Apathy?

You should try the full quest mods. Sorry for the lack of links. . . can't be arsed. They are however the proper titles and all available on Nexus. Times given are from my playthrus, but then again I didn't do many of the side quests.

These mods, especially in combination with Live Another Life, absolutely make skyrim worth playing again.

  • Alternate Start Live Another Life.

A must for the entire thing. Bypassing the cart ride and all the crap that goes with it.

  • Helgen Reborn: ~8 hrs.

8/10. Fun quests, neat watching Helgen get rebuilt. Player home to boot. Nice, fun story.

  • Falksaar: ~20 hrs.

7/10 Huge new landscape. Only gameplay problem is that there aren't enough wilderness encounters and locations. Technical problem is that the land is relatively flat giving you huge draw distances and lower framerates. Other than that, it's a decent departure with a nice story. New spells and shouts. Player home that I couldn't manage to get due to a bug, but that's ok cuz it was way out there anyway. Too hard to get to.

  • Wyrmstooth: ~20hrs.

8/10 New landscape about as big as Solstheim with plenty of locations and wilderness encounters. Decent story. Main storyline is basically a single long-ass dungeon crawl. Subtracted 1 point because the boss fight at the end kept crashing out on me prob because there were like 20 people in the fight. New spells and shouts. NIICE fortress/castle player home, but again it's way out there away from the mainland and too hard to get to.

  • Wheels of Lull: 2. "2 hours?" No, just too long.

2/10 Listed only so I could say "Skip this". Decent story, but the game play is not good. Aside from always being too dark, the "puzzles" consist of wandering around until you do things in the right order. Do this, then that, then go back over thru this door, then get that thing, then go back back to this one door, do the stuff with the thing you got and . . . that's not a puzzle, it's a rail. Then cram all of that into pitch black (seriously, turning up ENB ambient had no effect) or narrow paths. Then I couldn't finish because the scene after the final boss bugged out and would lock up everytime, which wasn't the first time it bugged out on me. I gave it 2 for assets: lots of nice looking, new DwemerTech style art (+1) and good voice actors (+1). OH and no follower allowed, but I didn't see that anywhere when I was reading up on it.

  • Haven't played Frostfall is it? I don't like the cold and desolate anyway so it's not the one for me. I use summer or tropical mods all the time anyway.

One more thing I'd add to this is Familiar Faces. That way you can save out your current char, have them meet you in a new playthru, and use them as a follower.

I've got almost 2k hours playing the game. these mods absolutely gave it a new lease on life.

The play-through I'm doing right now is a 'man-on-the-run' type deal.  After escaping Helgen (I do not like alternate start mods) I play the role.  My toon does not have a home base (no house or player-made house mods), he doesn't trust anyone (no follower mods) and he doesn't keep anything he can't carry for adventuring (about 70# of gear).  Basically he's on his own in the wilderness and only goes to settlements to trade or train.  He'll clean out a bandit camp and use that as a temporary base; sleep on their hay piles, eat their food and hunt out all of the game in the area.  Then he'll move on.

When he sees an Imperial or Thalmor patrol he'll attempt to hide until they pass or just simply run away.  These people tried to cut his head off so he's avoiding them.

To make the game harder (already playing it on Master difficulty) I do not use armor.  I rely on archery, dual wield attacks and running away to survive.  I am not taking any perks in alchemy or enchanting and every increase goes to armorer (for better weapons) archery, one-handed, sneak and lock picking.  Also, I'm avoiding all of the big quests in the game.  I have Timing is Everything installed so I get the goods and beefed up encounters from the DLCs without having to deal with dragons and vampires.

This might sound dull but relying on whatever loot drops the game gives for potions and magical items and not wearing armor does make the base game more of a challenge, and more interesting for me.

I am in the same boat as Kendo. I play the game to what I make it and enjoy it as much as I can. All these mods from this community has enhanced the gameplay 10 fold in my eyes. Now I cannot play Skyrim without Frostfall, Realistic Needs and Diseases, Private Needs, Bathing in Skyrim, and many more those are just to name a few. Right now I am playing a character that is a pure healer. As soon as I got my first eligible companion she cannot attack being a pacifist and all I can do is heal. Quite a game changer. Also she is pure, innocent, and very submissive so needs her hand held so to speak. Throw all that together with the mods from this community and you're in for quite the story.

Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation said it best in one of his episodes: "This is a mature game and a responsible one. You can simply buy the giant golden cock and balls for your son but he will lose appreciation for it almost instantly but if you pay hi 5 dollars a week to wash your car and eventually he will have enough to buy the golden cock and balls and he will appreciate it all the more also when he realizes he dug up the entire island just to get enough ore. You need to find your own entertainment."

I doubt that is word for word but you get the idea. Skyrim is a massive game and one of the most modded games out there. It definitely has enough content to keep you entertained just think outside the box and experiment. :P
