Downloading Mods Directly off of this Website instead of using mediafire, 115

UnlikelyH3ro

Should loverslab have a page for sharing, uploading and downloading mods (like skyrimnexus), instead of having to visit sites like mediafire, 4shared, 115, etc. for downloads?

PLEASE READ REPLIES BEFORE VOTING "NO", THANKS!

I wanted to create this thread because I really like this website, but think it is too uncategorized, messy, and difficult to browse. I believe that if this website had an area for uploading mods directly onto the website instead of having to chase/search for ghost links in lost threads, all the problems I mentioned above would be fixed. I as I'm sure everyone else is as well dislikes meticulous searching and would LOVE to be able to click a link which brings loverslab's users to a collection of every mod ever mentioned on this website. It would be nice to not have to blindly follow links that take us to who-ville with unfamiliar signs and diagrams and just be able to stay on this website, leaving our tabs above uncluttered.

I think this site works fine just the way it is, it may take work to find things but that way the links are shared in actual discussions and you can learn a lot about them if you take the time to browse carefully. I am fine with it all, and people here are great.

This would likely require more server space, which in turn requires more money. Bring more money into it and egos will erupt. I would rather Loverslab stay like it is than risk turning it into The Nexus. That would be truly a terrible terrible turn of events. It's fine the way it is.

LoversLab is great as it is, it encourages people to look for mods instead of only relying in one place, if your having trouble with foreign sites just use google chrome since it has an auto translator, and I myself enjoy the looking around for stuff and also enjoy responding and helping others, sure having links to a collection would be convenient but it would also just make LoversLab into another Nexus where all you do is make a new account just to download things

With the vast majority of today I've voted 'yes'.

It's better to pay a few bucks for freedom than to get banned for free by paranoiacs.

Heck Ya Man!

Everyone that said they like it the way it is, have you ever tried finding a needle in a haystack? Now find 10 needles in 10 different haystacks. I feel like that surfing the site. I don't have time nor the energy to browse every page like you guys do. I got work.

Someone also mentioned it would cost extra... Sure it would, but you do realize it would take less time to find mods, giving all of you more time to work at a job to pay for the website.

Adding a page solely for mods on it would not make this site like skyrimnexus. Why would you even think it would? This site is far greater than that site. It doesn't have even close to as many limitations, the moderators don't ban you for saying b***crack (are cool) and the people on it don't troll or hate on different mods.

Please think about the poll and this thread in its entirety. I know this site is good the way it is, but don't you ALL want it to be better, the BEST it can be?

Heh, well I'm not to sure they want to put over time at their jobs just to pay the bills so some of us can download more conveniently.

But yea, it would be very helpful as it is a small job in itself to find things sometimes(the downloads sections helps a good deal though). If there was a practical way for the costs to be covered it might happen, but I don't blame the guys who started this site if it doesn't. This started with enthusiast modders for fun after Wolflore changed their policy, initially we had here just around 1k members. I'm surprised by how it's grown in such a short time. More so that they can afford it as it is.

The other part you're gonna quickly come across with your idea is copyright and IP violations that can make any file sharing site a headache. for now it'd be ok and fairly under the radar but if/when successful creates the same head ache many of you are complaining with over the Nexus. I know its annoying using 115, mediafire and the others but better that then going the way of MU

Okay, I guess the statement I made wasn't worded right. I'm not saying anyone has to work overtime, what I meant to say was that a page with downloads on it would save everyone time to do whatever they wanted freely. If they had work to do, they could do it. If they weren't working full time, they could put in more hours to earn a full-times pay.

I think somebody mentioned that they enjoyed the site as it is because it kept the forums busy? Something like that? Well, the reason why it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo hard to find anything is because the forums are too busy.

Well, it's copyright Anywhere you post it. Complaining? Are you referring to this thread and my topic as complaining?

No look over the many posts in reference to Nexus or frankly pm nearly any long time poster on here. most people despise how fast they are to ban/block. and yes it is however putting here makes the poor fellow who owns and those who support responsible for it being here...something I'm sure they want to avoid :P

Oh ok, I know what you're talkin about now. I like Skyrimnexus but absolutely do not agree with the reasons people get banned on that site. They have too much power it seems like and abuse it. I think the thing that puzzles me the most is the reasons people are banned on that site when it literally has adult mods/pixel porn for download. I see people get banned for language and I shake my head. I'm allowed to look at porn freely but not use language?

i agree entirely, this site runs fine just the way it is.

Technically, the site already has that. Under each mod section of Skyrim (adult and non-adult) is a "downloads" section. All mod releases go there. Anything else is included outside.

For my vote, frankly, I can't make an opinion about that, because it's mostly a financial one, and I don't know what the financial situation of LoversLab is. The Nexus is a very well designed site, and LoversLab would have to hire a very talented web designer to achieve a similar Nexus look, let alone maintenance fees. To make the jump to that from a forum community is a huge undertaking. Of course making that jump would be good. Is it it necessary? No, and because of that, with all the financial complications, I'm leaning toward saying the site is fine as is.

I agree with everyone. It would be nice to see a page specifically for mods in the future but it depends on loverslab's financial situation. Definitely a great site. Just hope in the future, with more members, this site becomes even GREATER than nexus and even looks better... I'll keep my fingers crossed. :P

It's fine the way it is. For the most part the only stuff that's off-site are things that are offsite for a reason, either because they're massively huge, or because they can't be hosted here without sucking all the moneies out of ashal's pocket in server expenses.

But as it is, things are pretty much separated out, by game, by type, adult and non, and what they do. If a mod is in the wrong spot, flagging it or PMing a mod to have it moved is all it takes.

Which is much better then where we were a yearish ago. Full screaming buckets of doom, and cookies then. With everything everywhere! CHAOS AND DOOM! I SAY!

It's fine cos it costs u nothing to stay safe in John Little's isolated Sherwood Forest. Though things of today aren't established forever, they might change... for the better or the worse. In any case resources are necessary to manage the future. And next to defensive mechanisms one strategic goal is to gain additional market shares, interesting market shares the Nexus is losing since a couple of years, primarily the result of its paranoid ban policy. For once Valve engages the second and third gear in the competition less will be left for a free market that has fallen in to a deep sleep, if not into paralysis. Life punishes those who come too late...

Stuff from here that gets hosted here should not be hosted elsewhere, that's control rule no. 1 on the market. I dunno if LL advertising is allowed on the Nexus. If not, I wonder what LL modders are still doing there with their work? Collecting thumbs and watching d/l ratings, perhaps till the banhammer strikes hard? I did that successfully myself many years ago but after some time it's nothing but bullshit, for either you can mod or you can't. Soon you'll get a name or never. Take control of your stuff not to be controlled (or banned) by others.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If I want to share something here, I upload it here. Haven't had to use an external upload site yet. Most forums have a download section. Most threads post #1 either contains any download, or tells you where to find it. What's the problem?

I think if we ever live in a day where all file sharing services, like MediaFire, go down, then yea, LoversLab would have no choice but to tip their hat and do something. Either that or host their files on their own domain names, but not everyone has one.

I doubt all that would happen though. Not if these guys have anything to say about it:

I agree and support their actions but until more Americans actually make their voice heard I doubt the DoJ's webpage being brought down for afew hours (and the FBIs ect.ect) I doubt very much that politicians or political parties/agencies will stop doing the bidding of business (a lot of MU's take down was pressure from record companies and Hollywood) Don't get me wrong. I really think my country overstepped its legal bounds with MU and with the extradition demands with the UK but until We The People demand better they won't [/soapbox]

I don't see how this topic belongs in the Skyrim area. But since it is here, I'll throw my 2cents in. The idea is for the good, but anything related to money will get you a wide variety of responses. Not to say, that a simple reorganization may or may not be called for, but that involves alot of time. So, we are talking about money and time. Not typically popular topics for most here, I'll wager ... LOL. As well, I think the disorganized fashion is what makes us stand out as different. We like that. We also like to communicate with each other about the ways to get our hands on some pretty strange stuff, that may or may not interest us, but just seems to pose a challenge to obtain... ;)

To shift production and hosting of beloved stuff to others that willingly take on the burden follows the principle of hope, our virtual parasite lifestyle of old in a networked land where we always get from somewhere whatever we need, and all this for free. Though the age of Cockaigne is almost over. And there is no way back. Only fools think backwards, believing that the free internet sun has to shine tomorrow only because it has shined that bright yesterday.

Wake up!
