If combat is the only (aka main) issue; get him to use follower, tweak them, or "use" several, then, after combat start, only thing to do = stay about, or in some case keep some distance (depend if the followers use AoD attacks..).

In any case, if his mind can process quest & dialogues (knowing that the exploration can also be quite an experiences that said), I would definitely not keep this at this point.

Also, do remember that RPG are one of the best mind activating option there is as to daily, boring cycle (especialy in case where one do not / cannot achieve an interesting life, which is both physical & location based)..

As to the original topic, indeed, more body's = better, so far using EDB (they are others options) it is quite possible.
