Guest Plastrader Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Sometimes I have difficulties coping with peoples attitue or lack of respect in general on the internet. When I write stuff on the internet I try my best not to start flame wars, or bashing down on peoples thoughts or experiences.I also expect people to read what I write to it's full extent as I do theirs. But sometimes, there is someone who write something as an answer to what I've written which makes my blood boil and my "internet filter of fools" is removed in an instant! Mainly because I'm not in the mood and the filter, or shield hasn't powered up as it should. Then I find out from which region of the world this person is from, then I laugh bitterly to my self, because more often than not, people from this region seem to have this manner about them. Now the problem at hand. How to answer them?Without grouping the whole region under one roof(which I tend to in my mind at times) and without making me look like a raging fool?Maybe the whole background story is needed to explain what I'm talking about. Me:I tried decompiling my own source because I manage to lose it, that's why I was happy when I found this tool, which at a glance seemed to work better than the other one here. But, when trying to compile the code it failed. When I had a better look at the code I saw there were several errors in it which would make it impossible to work.(the code worked in it's .pex-form)So, my experience differs from yours. However, if you could provide me with a working example(.pex -> .psc) which actually work. I'll remove my above text and write an excuse.Response:Every mod ever? Less Intrusive HUD II, iHud, Convenient Horses, OBIS, Rotating Quicksave, Requiem, etc. etc. Even mods with source files, decompiling the .pex file and compiling with the resulting .psc file works.----It's the blunt "Every mod ever?" I hung up on.I've tried iHud as he mentioned and the smaller files compile, but not the larger ones. Maybe I'm over reacting?Or perhaps I'm to blame? [edit]Damned you AdBot! You're always here, but never give any input!!
b3lisario Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Maybe you are the first person who are having issues with that program, and every mod ever until now could be decompiled without issues. I think you failed at providing evidence of your issue. Instead, you asked for some kind of evidence that the program works, or examples, and they gave you 6.
Guest Plastrader Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 So writing that I tried to decompile my own code with this tool and then compile it again and that failed wasn't enough? I should have added the compile errors aswell? Just what I thought...
b3lisario Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Oh, I thought you were reporting issues to the author of the decompiler. What are the errors BTW? I'm interested in the subject of decompiling stuff
prideslayer Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 He is. He's talking about Champollion, a Skyrim util on Nexus. As a programmer myself, I can say your "bug report" is next to useless, and we (programmers) operating on public projects tend to have very little patience when it comes to answering bug reports that aren't useful. What I'd want, in your case, is an example of a working psc that compiles to a working pex, that the tool decompiles to a non-working psc. That would be enough. If you want extra credit, you'll indicate the lines in the non-working psc and how they differ from those in the working one. Keep the script as short as possible while still demonstrating the problem. "This doesn't work" without concrete examples is not helpful.

I've been working with these things for over a decade. But thank you for your choice of words! I raised a problem, if the author would have been interested I would PM him instead of derailing the topic. Nexus mod comments are useless for this that's why I didn't post the error... What are the errors BTW? I'm interested in the subject of decompiling stuffI'll get back to you on this, I need to find the file I stored it to.

Nexus mod comments are useless for this that's why I didn't post the error... He is interested in fixing the problem. I guarantee it. He's not interested in prodding you (and the dozens or hundreds of other users) for details you should have provided up front. Just post the full bug details right there in the forum, or send a PM to start with. We hate it when someone reports a problem and has the detail we need, but they "force" us to ask them to provide those details. I cannot count the number of PMs I've received here with similar reports about sexout or FOMM. I just delete them without responding at all. I do not have time to ask every single person who sends me one for additional details. This goes double if it looks like the problem is their fault for not reading instructions, or has already been asked and answered on the forums. Not saying your problem is your fault here, just explaining how we quickly get to the point that we just ignore any bug reports that don't have the details we need to quickly reproduce the issue. Unless the project is primarily hosted somewhere other than nexus (like on it's own project site like TTW, or at a source repo like gitlab/github/sourceforge/etc) then the nexus comments or PMs are the only (and thus correct) place to post all the details. Frankly I don't think the modder was at all disrespectful or showing a "bad attitude."
pinky6225 Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 But sometimes, there is someone who write something as an answer to what I've written which makes my blood boil and my "internet filter of fools" is removed in an instant! Mainly because I'm not in the mood and the filter, or shield hasn't powered up as it should. Perhaps there are other people in the world the above might apply to and you caught them on that day To be honest I can't think of a single time when withholding information that may be of use to someone you are asking to do something is a good idea so perhaps rather than wait to be asked provide it by default as it can be ignored if its not relevant
