SplitResonator Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 SO I know there's topics like this already but this one is specifically to cater to underrated/Not really known/Newer metal bands I'll state a bunch of my favorites.. if your not a metalhead or don't like metal I'd advise staying away from this thread and not bother to post stupid comments like "screamo sux" or "metal is just noise" if you do so you sound like a redundant moron who doesn't understand what good music is 1.) Sanctuary: These guys were formed back in 1991 and eventually disbanded, and then partially reforming as nevermore. 2.) Scar Symmetry: these guys started back in the early 2000s with their original vocalist named christian he could both produce deep demonic growls with amazing angelic clean vocals. they eventually got rid of him for some reason and had to replace him with 2 vocalists. with the current vocalists with the original vocalist 3.) Mercenary: these guys have great vocals and a very mellow sort of tone, less chaotic than most metal bands 4.) Firewind: Some pretty epic power metal! 5.) Exmortus: these guys are newer and I love their guitar riffs and solos 6.) Falconer: some good Swedish Folk metal! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y595heHNifs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po3XdK1DuJY
Oh I Don't Know Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Disco Ensemble is probably my favorite band. They're Finnish and pretty much unknown. I have yet to meet someone who's known their name. They're not quite metal but definitely make some good rock music. These are some of my favorites: Abandoned - Bay of Biscay - Lefty -

Dr. Thang Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 Well I'm already constantly raving about these guys, so why not? Tengger Cavalry. Mongolian folk metal, or Chinese pagan metal, whatever you wanna call it, they consistently make some of the best music I've ever heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6EbatvP9f4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSr-t2kXVBU I could post a dozen songs here, but they're all good, especially anything off Ancient Call, the best album I've ever heard.
DorkDiva Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Blut Aus Nord Monolithe Currently the only two bands I have been listening to lately. Info on both bands can be found here : http://www.debemur-morti.com/
Jayce Dimmer Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Sonata Arctica. Youtube does not do their songs justice; you need to get 'em 320kb/s MP3s for maximum oomph. Rhapsody - Their songs are fairly hit and miss. I only enjoy one or two songs from each of their albums. But those couple songs? They're god damn amazing. That being said, the first half of their songs aren't as good as the second half. I wouldn't be surprised if most people give up on them after thirty seconds of listenin'. Again, Youtube does this band no glory. Powerwolf - German metal band. They've got quite a few songs under their belt, albeit the tracks are fairly repetitive. But if you find a song or two that you like the sound of, ya can listen to it over and over without gettin' tired of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLEx9Lbo-9o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnMH7po4GMc Blind Stare - This band grew on me; I can not stand listening to the usual whisper-growl-scream-thing that most bands do, but if you pay attention, the singer is actually hittin' notes. And, thankfully, the other set o' vocals has a normal singin' style, so that keeps things fresh. Animetal USA - It's got Chris Impelliteri, Michael Vescera (Yeah, I probably spelled that wrong) and a couple other guys that can really, REALLY play. Sure, the premis of their band is kinda bollocksy, but by Crom; their music is godly. Just listen to the syllables of the singer rather than the lyrics, and all will be well. Galneryus - Japanese Metal Band. The singer is rather...Iffy. He tries to make his voice go all over the place, and it ends up being harmful to the ears. But the few songs he keeps his voice stable for? They're blazin'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjmFRPFEQug
Killing Joke Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Carnival In Coal : an experimental french metal band - disbanded since - with only 2 members : one at the vocals and the other playing all instruments. They sound a bit like Mr Bungle doing extreme metal. Their covers album is also funny and interesting, I love how they have perverted some songs, like this one from Pantera :
Mister X Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Lost Horizon. There is one song, nearly anybody knows partly, who is surfing the internet even just sometimes:
shirow Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I would recommend Heavenly, a french power metal band (they do sing in english). Here are the ones I prefer from Heavenly :
Darkwisdom Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I'm massively into Folk Metal, genre often crosses into power metal. Alestorm, Eluveitie, Northland, Elvenking and Winterstorm are among my favourites. Winterstorm Northland Elvenking Eluveitie Alestorm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92EB5UTVvnk I've seen alestorm live, incredible show.
FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Well I'm already constantly raving about these guys, so why not? Tengger Cavalry. Mongolian folk metal, or Chinese pagan metal, whatever you wanna call it, they consistently make some of the best music I've ever heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6EbatvP9f4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSr-t2kXVBU I could post a dozen songs here, but they're all good, especially anything off Ancient Call, the best album I've ever heard. Bands like this and "Nine Treasures" should consider touring Australia or stopping-by some of the big festivals - I think they'd get a good reception.
ToxicKetchup Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Derdian Siegfried Song/Shadowland/Symmetric Chaos Risen to Reclaim X Japan's not really well known, they've been making a comeback recently.
weandi Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 i cant say i know of any new metal bands............because most of them suck and sound like screamo gone punk or whatever however i do enjoy alot of cattle decapitation, methlab meltdown shrapnel disfigurement, Psyclon nine, Berzerker, Rompeprop, GuT, Cock and Ball torture, Lord Gore, Bathory, Belphegor.....etc you get the idea.
Darkwisdom Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Holy crap, X Japan are still together? I used to listen to them all the time. I might find their new stuff, see how it holds up. Also, this thread is giving me ideas. Tengger Cavalry sound really nice. I'll throw this one out there; The GazettE. They're a japanese rock/metal band that sings almost entirely in japanese. They're fantastic though, constantly reinventing themselves with every album. I personally prefer their older stuff, but their new records are pretty good too. They have both very heavy and more rocky songs, but their albums always present a good mix of both.
Dr. Thang Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I've seen alestorm live, incredible show. I'm so jealous I could puke! I love those guys, have all their albums except this new one yet. "In the Navy" is the greatest cover song ever, I unironically love that song. You're taste in music in general is epic too, Eluveitie is brilliant. I think you'd like this band, in case you haven't heard of em: Likewise for these guys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3Bm_cNkt1g Both might be a tad heavier than what you're into, but these last guys have some serious range. Their song Valkyrie has a very Pink Floyd-ish long guitar solo in the middle, while White Tower is...well, it's hard to describe, but it's really mellow and beautiful. Lastly, I don't know if Ex Deo could be considered obscure, and they definitely can't quite be classified as folk metal, but...well, shit, this song is just incredible: If you're a huge Graveworm fan like me, you might recognize their special guest during the chorus of that song. Bands like this and "Nine Treasures" should consider touring Australia or stopping-by some of the big festivals - I think they'd get a good reception. Holy crap, how have I missed this band? They're awesome, I love shit like this, thanks dude!

I think Jade is their most recent single. They're awesome. I love 'em.

AUSSIE METAL: 4ARM MORE awesome Aussie metal - 4ARM "Submission for Liberty"!
nonusnomeni Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 well not quite unknown in they parts of the world
Darkwisdom Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Really like Nine Treasures. They're like the Mongolian Korpiklaani.
Killing Joke Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Ancient Rites, black/medieval metal from Belgium Not really unknown and underrated (and everything but new) but since X Japan has been named, let's go to Switzerland to (re)discover one of the most avant-garde metal band, Celtic Frost those heavy rhythms <3 Last stop: Canada with Devin Townsend, not really unknown either, but the best album he ever released never got the success it deserved, I'm talking about Ocean Machine: Biomech A true masterpiece for me. I think if I had to keep only one metal album, it would be this one. So beautiful, so sad, so intense.
Sonowske Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I could go on forever... It's mostly Djent and Prog Metal, but here you go: Astraeus Modern Day Babylon Anup Sastry Animals as Leaders Beyond Our Eyes Heavy Metal Ninjas The Helix Nebula Rings of Saturn Sky Sanctuary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekKDhptHyLw Mera Volumes Sithu Aye https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R77d7B9HBiA Enjoy.
Sir Artsy Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 This topic has stuff already that i wanted to share so.. Not sure how "underrated" or known these are but i think it's good shit. Wintersun Eternal Tears of Sorrow (i like the older stuff more) (older stuff) http://youtu.be/3Kzm-UQC6U4 Kalmah and i feel like promoting but this is a one of my workmates band xD
DorkDiva Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 I recommend Blut aus nord as I posted earlier, just received their new release " Memoria Vertusta III, Saturnine poetry" in the mail today, quite a great release. Not released here in the states though yet, I imported it from France. Worth every cent/euro.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=7&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDIQFjAG&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.debemur-morti.com%2Fen%2Fblut-aus-nord%2F444-blut-aus-nord-memoria-vetusta-iii-saturnian-poetry-digipack-cd.html&ei=R-9FVJmwB5S0yATq2YCYBQ&usg=AFQjCNH_PyT8UkdBbkhlScraf_PrcKwcNw&bvm=bv.77880786,d.aWw https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=video&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB0QtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stereogum.com%2F1707514%2Fblut-aus-nord-paien%2Fmp3s%2F&ei=vO9FVKznHIKtyASHqYEo&usg=AFQjCNGbOOc1u5QuAwoykQEXwpR06n9K0Q Soundcloud bit: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=11&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CE4QFjAK&url=https%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fblutausnord%2Fmemoria-vetusta-saturnian-poetry-first-excerpt&ei=R-9FVJmwB5S0yATq2YCYBQ&usg=AFQjCNElAI2Ga7nLZBU5WYrsC3jrloP4Mw And I also would like to bring up Nasheim.https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCwQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.northern-silence.de%2Ffiles%2Fnasheim_sv.htm&ei=pOJFVMX4BMOkyATYnYGACw&usg=AFQjCNEniYEZyP53zRZFxHRJSOta3WVICw&bvm=bv.77880786,d.aWw https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=video&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB4QuAIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DIijuX50iVdI&ei=8-9FVLTrAs6ryATyuoHYCA&usg=AFQjCNGZ1RveljxCcmCLnm7WT5ffyiEVkg
