Your favorite Underrated/Not really Known/Newer Metal bands

Recommended Posts

Anyone listen to sludge metal? My all time favorite is High on Fire, founded by Matt Pike, (whom I had the pleasure of meeting during their tour last Nov.) former guitarist of stoner giants: Sleep.

Still going strong after forming in 1998, their sound has only improved upon it's own foundation instead of recasting themselves into something older fans would come to hate.

Anyone know any other sludge bands? Absolutely love the genre; so raw, brutal and gritty

Yes. Yes I do. ^_^

ELDER - "THE RIDDLE OF STEEL, Pt. 1"

STONEHELM - "HYBORIAN TALE"

ELECTRIC WIZARD - "BARBARIAN"

...and I  just discovered these guys today! :)

KROWNN - "STORMBORN"

Awesome. At least 2 of these songs were about Conan the barbarian lol. I've known about EW, which is actually a 'doom' metal band, but thanks for sharing.

I love my stoner metal - guilty as charged! Heh heh! And yes, ALL those songs had a Hyborian angle! :D

*I really would recommend the Stonehelm self-titled album that track is from - awesome stuff! I liked it even better than Dopethrone! :)

... actually, come to think of it - ALL those albums are pretty cool! ^_^

Ill give you my top 3 favorites and then I'll go back to lurking. :sleepy:

Aina - Only did one album, but what an awesome album it is.

Celesty - Which I belive disbaned last year. (or was it the year before that?)

Rebellion - Has slight growling in some of their songs but within acceptable levels.

Metal bands, you say...?

Some nice instrumental. I've played the touhou series, good danmaku style games.

Funny because I'm probably one of the few who are fond of danmakus but hate Touhou, I admit they are solid games, just not my cup of tea.

Talking about Bullet hell and metal...

I'm a massive fan of the whole genre. I'll play them all, even some of the fan made dreamcast games. I even made my own, custom arcade stick especially for those types of games. Some are better than others obviously and most games have a cheap, fan made feel (there are exceptions like Ikaruga) but they're just so fun and really get my adrenaline running.

I'm on the same boat, I play commercial ones (like CAVE) as well as a lot of doujins, Crimzon Clover being a personal favorite. I like how it pushes the shmup genre to the extreme, and how bullets patterns can be kind of artistic and hypnotic. They also require a lot of reflection, training and preparation to find the right path for each level to earn the most points, when to bomb at the right time, etc. I could go on forever like this. I didn't make a custom arcade stick myself but bought a good Hori one with Sanwa parts, along with a rotary screen to play in TATE mode.

I'd love to own one day an arcade cabinet, but it's quite expensive and can be a pain in the butt to keep them in a working state.

Make your own with Maximus arcade. Look it up, it's worth a look.
