New Vegas and Symbolic Links

At the moment I have more than one personal computer at more than one location. I didn't want to be stuck only being able to use one of the computers for something so for games I mod or that don't have their own cloud save service, I'm using a cloud service of my own and Windows' symbolic links to keep everything in sync. But I don't exactly want to put the entirety of the game in the cloud, so I'm not symbolic linking the entire game folder but rather only the files and folders I actually need synced across systems.

Unfortunately for me, FNV and the GECK are somehow unable to read symbolic links properly. They are currently the only programs I have found that can't deal with them. The GECK thinks the files don't exist at all. FNV loads to the main menu fine (I had expected a missing master-type crash) but CTDs when you try to actually start the game without so much as a "this program has stopped working" message (which marks the first time ever I've had FNV close without one).

I've tried syncing the other direction, with the symbolic link in the cloud folder and the actual files in FNV's directory, but the cloud program inevitably replaces the symbolic link with the actual folder and ruins the whole thing. Does anyone know if there's any way to get FNV and the GECK to actually read these links or am I stuck with only one Fallout computer?

I read that three times. Even though I know every word in the post, strung together in such fashion all I heard in my head was an adult from a Peanuts cartoon.

I need to go back to school or something.

I need to link individual files, not just directories, so junction points are useless to me. Additionally, I believe symbolic links are system level as well, which is why I'm so surprised FNV can't handle them.

Symlinks in windows are hit/miss, but you could instead setup an rsync server or even use a private project on sourceforge/github -- I hesitate to suggest doing it here on gitlab due to the nature of the material and usage.

Between my desktop and laptop, I use SyncToy and a USB stick or external drive.
