CTD on Startup/Detect Settings

Recommended Posts

Played Skyrim two days ago fine, got off the game after messing around a bit.

Today tried to start it up, CTD before Bethesda logo even showed up. Go to detect video settings, CTD. Deleted/Moved .ini files in the Docuements/MyGames folder and tried to detect video settings again - still CTD when detecting settings.

Anyone have any help they could offer?

CTD before Bethesda logo means missing master/masters. Use TES5EDIT  http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/25859/? download it unzip it and run the .exe that is in it. It will attempt to load everything you have installed in your game if it hits a error in the load order it will stop and tell you why in the bottom right hand area. Read if fix close TES5EDIT and repeat starting it till you no longer hit anymore errors then try your game again.

A CTD before logo or main menu doesn't necessarily main missing master it's only the most popular cause of CTD on menu.

Of course more information would be nice.

Try verifying game cache as well.
