Game Instability

As you are all aware the last few days I have undergone a lot of crap from Fallout New Vegas. I installed a ENB which didnt work that then spun out of control into a migraine of errors, game re installations, complete mod sweeps and re installations of those as well. 3 times I had to do this and it was frustrating. A part of me wanted to reformat my laptop to start over completely fresh but that would be going a little overboard.

At least now I see the light. I have the game running with all my mods installed but now its highly unstable. It crashes regularly and playerslave does not work. I attempted it on god mod with 50% life with the highest capturing settings but the enemies just shoot at her. If it does look like its about to happen the game will suddenly crash. I feel like This game is mocking me and I am quite tired, frustrated, and mentally exhausted. I ask of one more thing and I know I am asking for the moon. Many people have gave me advice, tips and links on how-to's over this struggle but I am about at the end of my rope. Can I ask one more thing of you? What is causing this crash? I will post a load order below.

I am sorry if I am acting lazy but a person can only take so much. I can see the light at the end of this tunnel then I suddenly took a face plant. I feel i am asking for too much since many of you have helped me through this. Maybe all this trouble I went through can be a guide for people who might run across this issue one day and not go through what I have gone through.

Thank you all again. I am off to bed,

OK, I know nothing of Fallout.  Don't even have it.  Assuming that the architecture is similar to Skyrim though, based on all you've described, *MY* guess would be that the ENB made a change that the game recorded in your registry or outside of your normal directory...  Yah know, like how Skyrm has it's ini and save games normally in your documents folder?

If you have a decent registry cleaner and everything else checks clean you may want to give that a try.

The only other thing I could think that I've had to deal with in similar situations is Steam DL'ing bad info from old saves during it's Synch process.  That was a pain.

Anyway, hope you don't mind me hazarding a guess here.  I've been poking around the Fallout threads trying to learn a bit more about the game and it's mods. :)   Doubt anybody will give you grief for asking for help either.  It's one thing when somebody just doesn't want to think.  Quite another when they've tried a ton of things and are just mentally fatigued to the point of needing a fresh perspective.

Instability could come out from many things. I passed from a enervating and impossible to handle instability (a CTD every minute) to a complete stability (never CTD): reducing my LO and choosing carefully the mods. I would suggest to avoid for now texture packs for environment, mods that spawn npcs/creatures, mods that change form lists, until you play enough to say it's stable. Install 4Gb patch, (NV stutter eventually), double check if the LO is correct, double check if mods possibly could conflict, tweak the ini with these multi thread things you find anywhere, and nothing else.

When I do a new install / playthrough in both Skyrim and Fallout, if it's quite modded it takes me hours/days. My only suggest in that would be not rush on it and take your time, installing few mods and try them everytime ingame, play a little to see if they work as they are supposed to work, you should narrow down a possible conflict in your LO.

What I personally would do in your LO, first would be avoiding MoMod. Never tried FCO, but if it uses big textures I would avoid that too at start, and add it in a second time when things work fine.

And I would install ENB only at the very last, when I'm sure the rest of the things work fine (= I played some hours)

I imagine that I already suggested the New Vegas Anti-Crash NVSE plug-in to you (I don't remember...when you spam advice, you don't always know where you spammed it ;) ).  If not, it's on the Nexus.  Can't comment on playerslave as that it's nod a mod that I use.

You've got Powder Gangers in there again (it was either you or someone else who had it in their load order before).  Are you installing SO mods from KainChylde's (forgive me if I fucked up the spelling, Kain) compilation?  If so, you might want to check mod by mod for updates.  I think the compilation was updated right around a year ago.  If you used the compilation because the Downloads forum page was overwhelming (not speaking from personal experience or anything  ), there's a link right above the forum table that says Browse Downloads or something like that.  It'll take you to another page...click on the correct link...and then you'll get a table with a blurb on each mod and categories to sort by.

:P

You hard drive could probably use some TLC after what you've put it through recently, and it would probably appreciate a reach-around next time.  :D

What I DO remember is having some difficulty with...something when I actually became active on the site.  In searching for help, I ran across a thread where you had the same issue that I was having at the time and decided to reinstall.  So what I can say is that I'm sorry that you've had shitty luck.  :(   I myself have thrown myself at the mercy of "They that know all" on here before when something has been beyond me.  Best of us, etc.  As far as it goes for me, you're nice (counts for 80%), you read and try what you're told (which counts for 25%), and you aren't whining for us to fix every little problem/question because you're too fucking lazy to use the search bar and want EVERYTHING done for you (15%, and this has been an ongoing issue for you as opposed to some new little thing).

Do I suck at math?  No.  I just think that you really can't undervalue niceness.  It's very rare that I go "Fuck the fuck out of you," but I've done it when at least two of those standards have been violated.  Back in the day when I did tech support, my favorite people were the absolutely fucking clueless that were nice.  "I will hold the fuck out of your hand, and we will get through this because you are treating me like a fellow human being."

TL;DR:  Nope.  Gotta read it (see standard #2 ;) ).

FCO uses big textures, yes.  There's a program on the Skyrim Nexus called Optimizer that can condense texture sizes without sacrificing too much quality.  There's also an Optimizer tweaks that I would suggest (which may or may not be linked on that page) that filters out some files that it shouldn't bother checking for and gives a good how-to for running Optimizer.

My game isn't beautiful, but it runs like butter on a plate sitting outside on the equator (which I might need to run again since FCO was recently updated).

Thank you all very much for your words. I guess we all go through some tough times with mods here and there. Some worse than others. At least when I figure this out I'll hopefully be a little better at this. Heck my installation speed for this game and mods has dropped down to only a couple hours now. Used to be half a day.

I know my computer can handle these mods because this was pretty much all the mods I used before this shit storm happened and it ran fine. There was an occasional here and there but I've grown to get used to that and it doesn't really break the game for me, I guess I am searching for this needle in the haystack. What baffles me I used prideslayers custom FOMM. It worked perfectly the first time around. Now when I use it I got constant installation errors. I did another fresh installation last night before I wrote up this forum and it no longer gives me those errors but now is very slow and often locks up when I try to install a mod. Now I am using the regular FOMM from the nexus website. Thankfully re installing the game only takes about 15 minutes. It's the mods that take the most time.

As for ENB's my first experience trying to use them was a very bad one. Once this is all said and done I will most likely just avoid them. >.>

Update: I think I have the bastard cornered now. The one that is causing the crashes. Unfortunately its a mod I used heavily which is the sexout slavery mod. I use this because it gives me an edge in combat. Knowing that if my character screws up its her ass literally. :P The game plays perfectly fine now. No lag/crash issues as far as I know but when the slavery mod activates the game crashes instantly. >.<

Well it's hard to put down the ENBs, they are super easy to install, but a bitch to remove, because you have to manually remove each of the files. If you see one that you really like, I would still say to go for it.

I tried the Dynamo ENB because it really gives it a great atmosphere for the desert. I think I installed it properly because when I loaded up the game. The sun's brightness was very very thick. It glared up the whole landscape. I think removing it is where I messed up and caused this whole problem.

Hmm possibly because you have to remove every individual file and if you didn't your game colors could get wacky. I admit Dynamo ENB caused me the most issues and truthfully when it comes to ENBs I rarely have any issue. May I suggest Rudy ENB? Similar vibe to Dyname ENB but it has a wee bit more colors to it.

I use a Skyrim ENB remover. You set the folder (so NV) and then it removes all the ENB files. It also allows to create profiles, so I can change ENB on the fly and it handles the rest. That's pretty neat.

Only other thing that I can say about your load order is that you've got SmallTalk.esp and st.esp.  Isn't st.esp Smaller Talk?  I had it installed back in the day and decided that maybe I preferred that my unnamed NPCs keep their goddamned mouths shut.  :P   Anyway, if that IS Smaller Talk, you should be able to get rid of the SmallTalk.esp.

[...]

Just for information:

st.esp is the esp from spectrums toy pack. You do not need the esp if you need the resources only for the scr-resouces-pack.

And as far as I know, you should use smallertalk instead of smalltalk.

But as everything is stable now, that should not matter :)

Why have you not told me this sooner :(. All those times I changed ENBs :( Which enb remover do you use?

Update: I think I got it working. No promises but the game is running fine and I managed to get the crash fixed with the particular mod I am using. There are a few hiccups with crashes IE: When I fast travel sometimes and if too much stuff is going on in a given area but I might be in the clear at long last I hope.

I watched a video on youtube where this guy merged Realistic ENB with Dynamo ENB. The game graphics in video looked amazing but that is beyond what I know about modding. Check if out if you like. Looks great.
