winny257 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 with appear ESO is "bethesda" died for me, it is time this "club" sweep them under the carpet. I hate online RPG'S, so I also hate "bethesda"!
ChaisyM Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I'm playing TESO and its pretty dang fun. The character creation is awesome, takes the best of Oblivion and Skyrim IMO and leaves out the bad. It feels like Elder Scrolls with obvious concessions that had to be made to make it an MMO. I see no reason that this means Bethesda is dead, that's a complete over-reaction. The worst thing about it is the linear questline, but if they didn't do that they've have to implement enemy level scaling, and that would be impossible in an MMO. Do I see myself playing it for years, like WoW? No. Unless PvP is amazingly fun, and I haven't even tried PvP yet. Now what we need are private servers with the ability to mod like Oblivion and Skyrim. I could do some great things!

winny257 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 what is so nice to TESO?the graphic is like in medieval times, no big foresight, each ore deposits looks the same! plant too little, too little treasures too little variety. too many bugs with the quests, players are into each other, or run through you! I could go on with this list of negative side, but for that I have no desire. There are players who are so addicted to all who would buy every game. after six months TESO is free to play, then I'm going to "trying" once maybe.

It depends with your expectations, my subscription expired just a day ago and now taking a break from it until HUGE changes come to it. I've only paid the $90 for the game and not paying another cent until it gets a face-lift.

crusher Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 @ OP, There are some really amazing MMOs out there, if you haven't tried some of them you should explore a bit. The idea of a modern MMO is pretty much the antithesis of an RPG. RP means Role Play, where modern MMOs would like you to think 'Number Play' (stat crack) is the same thing as Role Play. Once you realize the 'hook' or the addiction mechanic, be mindful of the 'skinner box' stimulus cycle the MMO uses to keep you paying. My all time favorite was Guild Wars Original, Guild Wars 2 is an amazing product but is now an 'asian grinder' or stat grind, the graphics barely reach Skyrim Vanilla quality, and that's about as good as it gets for an MMO. Age of Conan early release was really amazing, the game still has a little life left in it, and is worth a look, some great guilds still holding out there, free to play for limited access. Haven't tried Starwars which is now free to play, but I'd suspect it is another Gerbil_Wheel_Grind MMO, but still a top product. played and enjoyed others, Dark Ages of Camelot, Anarchy Online, The Secret World, Acherons Call 1&2, Eve Online.. all very good experiences. Then there is the 5000 pound gorrilla, the MMO which all modern MMOs model themselves on: World of Warcraft. WoW uses the everquest format for stat-stimulus to keep peeps tapping away at their keyboards, and Blizzard has the perfect endorphin drip. It is a true work of art, masterful story, world design, mechanics strong, but beware in is not for the casually inclined, you will live your life for the gem, if you let it hook you. .. so I tried ESO, and could only stomach a few minutes of it, it is really a sub-par product by comparison. Try something else, if you like ESO, you'll love some of the MMOs I've suggested above. None can do what Modded Skyrim does visually, or even environmentally... there is just no comparison in the MMO genre yet. I try to login to Guild Wars 2 (best MMO currently), but it can't hold a candle to what modders have created for Skyrim; you simply see all the flaws and limitations of MMO development, and there is not a thing you can do about it, but pretend it is not a flaw.

The one MMO blizzard took most from was Asheron's Call 2(still one of my favorite alll time MMO's Darktide server not the white servers).

GW2 dispite they change alot is no subscription huge world beautiful looking ALOT BETTER looking then vanilla skyrim(but matter of taste and ashtetics. Huge world and one of the best underwater world s which is almost game it it self. Ive not played for almost 1.5 year so i dunno how much it have changed. But its great MMO with alot of different things to do enormous diverse world. GW2 worth your money because only B2P and these days its half price so why wait?
Selvera Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 While I haven't played either WoW or Guild Wars 2, I have played a number of MMO's including Rift, DDO, Shaiya, Last Chaos and 4-5 others. I also took part in a few of ESO's beta weekends. Here's what I like about ESO: I like the combat and how dodging, power attacks and positioning matter, in addition to skills, targeting and builds which matter in all MMO's. I like the boss fights that I ran into, they were much more interesting then low-level boss fights in other MMO's I've seen, and I didn't get up to higher levels to see if they become increasingly complex and interesting like they do in other MMO's. I like the crafting system. I like the PvP system when it isn't lagging. (Although I heard there isn't a dueling system, it'd be nice if they added that) I like the class system and how it allows characters to grow in many different trees that they can choose, are not bound to a specific class, and some can even give non-combat bonuses. I like how all classes can wear all types of gear. I like the quests and how they feel more like stories then like fetch quests or kill quests. Here's what I don't like about ESO: I don't like the monitization scheme. I don't like the imperial edition. While I think ESO would do better with subscription and no microtransactions, this means there should be no microtransactions. I don't like the huge amount of bugs. Bugs causing you to not be able to complete quests detracts from the interesting quest system and pretty much kills it. I ran into a few of those in the beta, and from what I hear from reviews, not enough of them were fixed by release. I don't like how party play is discoraged. I like Skyrim, it's a great game, but TESO is an MMO and I'd like to create characters that are party based, therefore I want to group up with friends or strangers while leveling. Therefore I don't want to be split up from my party when entering an instanced dungeon (mage quest line for example), I want quests to be completed by all party members when they're completed, I want loot to be distributed to party members using predefined rules (like random assignment, vote assignment or w/e, lots of MMO's have this). I don't like having so much lag in PVP that I can't fight. I don't like having so many bots and gold spammers that it ruins play experiance. I also don't like destroyed game economies, especially from expoitation of a bug. I did enjoy most of my playing of the beta, during which most of the downsides I listed weren't an issue, but with the number of things I liked vs the number of things I don't like, I'd rather play other games for now, and hope that Beth/Zenimax keep working on the game to fix these issues and turn ESO into a good, or great, game. If they do fix these issues, then ESO could turn into the first MMO that I'd actually subscribe to. I also feel like they could have added a bunch more alternative content to the typical MMO kill monsters/level up/kill end game bosses or PvP model that they have. For example, they have an interesting crafting system with mutliple different skill trees attached to it, they could have added crafting quests and players could play an artisan or expert as their character. They could have added crime/punishment simmilar to earlier TES games, modified for MMO play. (Perhaps you killed an NPC, but they can respawn in a few minutes. In the mean time you gotta get out of there or the guards will take you to jail. Shops can have "stealable" items that also set of the guards if you're not stealthy enough, which will also respawn. On the flip side, they don't need a "skip your sentance" button in the jail, if you can't break out, you'll have to rot in jail until your sentance is done, or switch to another character. You do have alts right?)
