Hentai-chan Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I may be getting a new PC soon so I think it's high-time I broadened my horizon. TERA has caught my eye. I looked up on Metacritic and it gave the game 77. I hear Diablo is not half-bad, either. What I am looking for is an MMORPG that has stellar combat. So are there any good ones?
Snazzishoez Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I am probably a bit biased, but I've tried quite a few MMORPGs. Pay to play and free to play as well. The only MMORPG that I ever felt worth playing was Final Fantasy 11 for the longest time. Now with Final Fantasy 14 online, that is the best option in my opinion. Great graphics, storyline, gameplay and ability to join up with people to do events. There is nothing out there that compares in quality. When stuff is free to play, you can't really complain. FF11 and FF14 are pay to play, but it's only $12.99 per month. FF11 is still running since 2002, though a lot of people have moved over to FF14 where most of the efforts are going into. It's a PVE based game, which I love. I don't like PVP, unless it's consensual. Which pretty much eliminates a ton of online games for me. There's also Elder Scrolls Online coming out, but I have no idea of what that's like. I won't be giving it a try even though I love Elder Scroll games. I've tried Tera and it's okay. I got bored with it pretty quickly, but everyone has their own tastes. Only way to find out is to try. Good luck and enjoy your new PC!
Lamae Bal Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 The only one I play is Guild Wars 2. I kind of hate the idea of MMORPGs but I still enjoy Guild Wars 2. Its combat is more elaborate than most MMORPG's, and there is a mod that makes it more immersive. It has its flaws (some say it's nowhere near as good as GW1), but ANET is always working hard to give us something new every month or so and you've gotta appreciate the effort they put into their game.
hryh23k9823u Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 No good MMORPS. But there are a couple of free2play ones that are relatively entertaining to give them a couple of weeks with a friend, like Tera, Vindictus, Star Trek Online. Again, crap games but free and somewhat entertaining to play with friends. As per subscription based, no one is worth a cent, except EVE Online.
Cynical Misanthrope Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Just as Snazzishoez I have tried a few MMORPGs as well. Both F2P and P2P. And I must say (my opinion now) playing a F2P is great, but sooner or later, you will discover that you hinder yourself pretty much. Ofc, it depends on the game, but in some of them, you will run out of inventory space, you reach the limit of how much cash you can carry. Gear you can use Etc etc. Small things like that. They are not the end of the world, but I like having control and paying a small sum to remove restrictions, might not be a bad idea. Anyway, here is my list of MMOs: WoW - Do not need a explanation. Rift - Like WoW when it comes to combat, but still strong to stand on it's own. What makes this game uniqe, is that you can have many different specc's. A small example, you like playing a rogue with bow and a pet, (dps or damage dealer) but then all of sudden you feel like "you know what, I want to play a dungeon now, and I have no issues with being a tank." And one click later, Voila! You are a tank (if you have the correct gear, and specced for it ofc) I think you can have up to 6 souls (speccs) What I am trying to say is, there is no really restrictions when it comes to specc's. End game is another thing thou, if you have a spec you love, but it turns out it sucks, when it comes to raiding, you will get kicked. DCUO - This game is not the best when it comes to graphics, but don't let that stop you. Also, it can feel very cartoonish and consolish. (not strange, since it was a console game first) You are basically a super hero/villain with powers. You have your own personal story, (well sort of) and the game is just all about having fun and wrecking havoc. You can have bat man, joker, and god knows what as mentors, and they all give you quests. Combat is fun, and as you level up, you will learn how to combine different attacks for maximal dmg. And you can fly, or have super speed. However, end game is where the real fun begins. First you need start grind for gear, and then also for something that is called "feats" (this game talent points) and they all differs. One feat may be stuff like "collecting X amount of clothing/style" and another may be, run a dungeon X amount of times. This game is best to play with someone, because in some dungeons, they have alot of feats and if you are not strong enough, you might fail and need to run it later. One feat can be like "don't use a certain attack " etc etc, and if you feel like "hey im to weak, but Im gonna use that super attack anyway" you will fail thay feat and need to go back later. So, what I am trying to say, you don't get punished in any way, but if you play with someone, you save alot of time and grind. The Secret World - (I am playing that atm) This is a game without any levels. When you level up, you don't receive a level, but instead you receive just normal skill points and talents points. In this game, you can't re-specc either, because in the end, the point is, you will learn to handle every weapon etc etc. This also more or less plays out in present time, meaning you can have pistol, shotguns, rifles, fire axe, but can still also use magic. Some weapons are ofc better to use in combination with others, but there is no real restriction. You can use 2 weapons at the same time. So lets say, you use pistols and shotgun. So you basically build up attacks with pistols and then execute the "special" attack with pistol, but since you also use shotgun, you can also execute the special attack for the shotgun" You get an extra attack so to speak, Shit tons of clothes and gear, and it's a very heavy rpg game. Everytime I travel to london, there is always rp goin on. Very mature players as well. Conversations are cinematic and they are all worth to look at. Also, this is no hand holding in this game. Maybe just a little, but in this game, you must use your brain to complete quests. Some quests also requires you to look things up on the web. Game has in build browser for that sort of things. TERA - My experience when it comes to this game is limited. I played for a week maybe, but I kinda liked it anyway. Combat is okay, they tried to make it moar dynamic, but kinda fail. However, this was just in the first starting areas, so it's possible it becomes much harder later on. But from experience, you start your attacks, and then the mob you fighting will at random time get a skull over its head, meaning, his is doing his attack and you need to move out of the way, or you will get hurt. Character creation is really beautiful Heck, game it self is gorgeous. SWtOR - At first I loved this game. Every conversations is like Mass Effect. Even has that conversation wheel. Combat wise it sucks, it's like WoW/Rift but slightly better. During your play, you will come across companions, and they all have their own role. Some could be tanks, dps, or healers. Witch ofc, helps you. You can somewhat have a relationship with them. For me, this game is "when WoW meats ME" However, I stopped playing this game, because is not optimized, the engine itself is garbage, and there is rarely any updates (or was when I played) You can have the most powerful PC, but still the game will lag, and have shit long loading between areas. It's typical Good vs Evil, but you are not forced to play as an Evil Sith. You can be good a Sith, or and evil Jedi. Some companions will react to what you do, so if you for example want to play an good Sith, some companions will lose "affection" for you, and thus make it harder for you if you want to bang them. But you learn pretty quick witch ones likes what etc etc Upcoming mmos to watch for: http://tomclancy-thedivision.ubi.com/game/en-ca/home/ http://www.destinythegame.com/uk/en http://www.blackdeserthq.com/ I hope this helps. This is just a few that I have played, and generally liked. Have played a few others as well, but they weren't good enough or they are more or less dead. Like Conan online, Warhammer, etc etc
Snoopy911 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 --- There's also Elder Scrolls Online coming out, but I have no idea of what that's like. I won't be giving it a try even though I love Elder Scroll games. ... Good decision i think. I tried it for some days now and like it less every session. Most annoying up to now was pvp or in my case the lack of it. You have to choose a Home campaign of about a dozen available ones. I decided for quite full one cause pvp is not much fun if you're all alone on a map. Well mine is not completely full but i was never able to enter and get stuck loading. Entering campaigs with less players is no problem but you can only do your quests in the home campaign which i will be probably be able to change after 90 days. Nice timing since my subscription will end after that period. Getting money is also some real fun you earn a little bit from quests but it's hardly enough to get better equipment and i think people who didn't spend 20 bucks for the imperial edition (free horse) will wait a long time to be able afford even the cheapest plough horse. Most quests were done quite well up to now but the overall game feels more and more like the usual asia grinder. The last two new quests today were "visit some former locations" type which will probably cost me an hour running or the money earned from the last 2 quests using some shortcuts.
sponschga Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I played many MMOs but most of them are really boring if you play it for yourself but every one of them can be very good if you have a good guild because thats the main point in playing MMOs. So dont decide on graphics or gameplay, that rly doesn't matter. Just be sure what you actually want, much pvp? alot of grind? many pve dungeons? openworld pvp wihout safezones except towns ofc? I liked neverwinter for PvE, it's very dark and focused on adult player not like Tera. Tera is horrible lategame and servers lagg in pvp - battlegrounds, rly annoing to play. My favorite right now for some obvious reasons - Scarlet Blade! BUT just on Privat Server, never ever play on Official aeriagames server, just don't! Its all about dungeon runs, openworld pvp and pvp for bosses.
Hentai-chan Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 Just be sure what you actually want, much pvp? alot of grind? many pve dungeons? openworld pvp wihout safezones except towns ofc? I prefer pvE, all the way. I don't want to deal with win-crazed assholes. Though that doesn't mean I would rather not bump into real people.
Kpnut Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 The only two MMOs I can recommend are Guild Wars and Forsaken World. Also don't bother with Guild Wars 2, it's a steaming pile of shit compared to Guild Wars (the only good thing about GW2 compared to GW1 is the graphics) sure GW is empty nowadays it's still a good game.
Kaputzki Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Unfortunately, no one mentioned Wildstar.A delicious cake goodie of superb, ratchet-and-clank style combat mixed with RPG elements, high difficulty PvE encounters, active targeting and breakout gameplay (essentially meaning you can respond to crowd control effects rather than sit there powerless)My small band of WoWers are all moving to it, guess you should take a gander:www.wildstar-online.com ; check out the videos.
R_dahri Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 You should check Path of Exile in Steam, free to play, free to download. You only pay for things like visual effects and such things.
Karin Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 Rift,STO,NWO,LOTRO all are f2p and pve focus and fun.
Sweatington Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 If you enjoy PvP. Darkfall Unholy Wars is the bomb!
