grymsoul Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Hey guys, I need your help with this. I don't understand why my skyrim game lags so often. I should have a powerful enough rig to handle it. This is my system specs. -I7-4771 CPU 3.50 GHz -64 Operating System -Geforce GTX 760 2 GB -8 gb RAM -1 TB Hard Drive -120 GB SSD (This is where my game is currently saved) 750 Power Supply The processor is up there simply because I primarily use this as a music production pc. I don't use any high texture mods or ENBs either. Just a few added monsters and characters textures. I don't know why I'm getting such low FPS. Even when I put the setting on medium, I'm still seeing hiccups, noticably less, but still there. What could be the problem? I'm also planning on upgrading my rig in the near future. What would you recommend that would help aleviate this problem?
lidowxxx Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Are your graphic card drivers up to date? Any components overheating? like CPU or GPU? Overheating pass a threshold will lead to throttling, resulting reduced operating clock speed, check with HWmonitor if you are unsure. Hard to believe you run into fps problems with hardwares like that, considering you are not even running an ENB and only have a few texture mods.
grymsoul Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 I checked my drivers and they're all up to date. As for the overheating part, how do I find out? What's HWmonitor?
lidowxxx Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 HWmonitor is a tool that monitors your hardware temperatures: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html Leave the program open and play skyrim for some time like you normally do, then check the max temp for your CPU and GPU.
grymsoul Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Thank you. I will test this out later today as I'm now on my way to school. I shall report back in a few hours and post the results.
hentaijin Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Check your temperatures first as that is very important, but if your GPU max temp is below say, 90 C I think overheating isn't a big problem. If you have a lot of high requirement mods installed like 4k textures, full effects enb, ect. Those will hurt your frames a lot in cities mainly. If you notice you're using all your vram you have too many or too high resolutions textures installed. tool to check your vram useage. you'll probably have to have skyrim in windowed mode or a second monitor to check it ingame. http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
grymsoul Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 I checke dthe temperature and everythinng seems to be fine. I also don't have any 4k or enb mods installed.
D_ManXX2 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Try downloading ENB Boost. and keep enb off. it should still give you major boost even if you don't use any enb options. But if you want better help, try posting more information like this: Mod list: load order. your nvidia settings you game settings. your game resolution. etc..
Dubhorizon Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Your rig isn't the problem, something else seems to be. Could even be acccumulated dust for what is worth. Have you upped ugrids too much? Have you optimized the textures? Everything is 2k? how about ishadowmapresolution, ishadowmaresolutionprimary and secondary in your ini files? Nvidia cards struggle with shadows (I always had nvidia cards and they were a problem). How about the trees? If you have 2k tree textures and they are loaded in full quality even in the furthest of distances it could be a problem. You could downgrade them to 1k and still not notice too much of a graphical difference. What about grass? If you have grass on steroids use iMinGrassSize=110 and it's still much much thicker than Vanilla. Just try toning down whatever you can, slightly till you get a good fps. Also check to see that not many programs are running while you're playing.
elktrue Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Maybe it's stuttering? From the Skyrim Total Enhancement Project (STEP) http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.8#4.A.4._Stuttering 4.A.4. Stuttering Microstutter - This is an annoying 'glitchiness' when moving or panning for those using higher-end graphics cards (usually) or multiple GPUs in SLI or CrossfireX configs (purportedly). Follow the recommendations for ENBoost, noting in particular EnableVSync=true . If this does not resolve the issue:Ensure that microstutter is not being confused with 'macro'-stutter, which is more severe and memory related. Remember: microstutter is very annoying, but not hindering in any way. Try forcing vsync via Nvidia Inspector (Nvidia users) or RadeonPro (AMD users) ... sorry Intel users. Also (and this is very important), enable D3D-compatible triple buffering via RadeonPro. Nvidia Inspector users: D3D-compatible triple buffering is not available. Use D3Doverrider instead. This may also have a vsync function.
JLF65 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 The easiest way to boost FPS I've found is decrease the resolution. I use 1024x640 on my 24" 1920x1200 monitor, and it looks great. My system isn't the greatest (it's CHEAP), so you could probably do better, but there's no reason to run Skyrim at 1920x1200 for most folks. I get about twice the FPS compared to running at 1280x800 with everything else the same. By the way, I second the recommendation of using Grass on Steroids. I can run the grass at size of 85 and min fade of 2100 (which gives FAR more grass than vanilla) without any loss in performance.

Your system should handle skyrim fine so other than the above i'd suggest checking your background and scheduled tasks and see if you have something going on when you trying to play (for example my PC is set to do a backup at 7pm on Sunday's so when that starts my performance drops a bit until its finished if i'm in a game)
XxBloodMagicxX Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 I am having the same problem, and here are my PC Specs. Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 760 1) Processor: i7-4930K CPU @ 3.40GHz (12CPUs), ~ 3.4GHz Memory: 32,768MB RAM (32GB) DirectX 11 Now I am also sure you're wondering what mods I am using. I am basically trying to use as many Graphic mods as possible however, I know that some sorta overlap if you know what I mean. That being said, here is a list of the mods I am using and the mods I want to use I will put in parenthesis. RealVision ENB 251b Bethesda Hi-Res DLC Optimized Finer Dust HD Enhanced Terrain Horizon of Dreams - Night Sky and Moon Textures Immproved Rock and Mountain Textures - 4096x and 2048x - 4096x4096 version (Lush Trees and Grass) Realistic Smoke and Embers - RSE High v 1_4 Ruins Clutter Improved Serious HD Retexture Skyrim - Serious HD Retexture LANDSCAPE 2048px Skyrim Flora Overhaul - Dragonborn addon v02 Skyrim Ultra HD Texture Pack Static Mesh Improvement The reason I listed it word for word so this way it does not cause confusion. And lastly, when I got on Skyrim it says a new version is available. How would I install the new version without ruining my game and or end up with a ton of files I do not need which uses up space that is unnecessary. I apologize for this for I am new to ENB in general.

XxBloodMagicxX Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 What graphics card are You running? The OP had a problem with Thier PC choosing the integrated graphics, and not using the graphics card. Well... I apologize... I figured this topic was Skyrim PC issues in general... Well, anyway, my Graphics Card is an NVIDIA GTX 670. Hope that answered your question.... Edit: It is 2GB in case you're wondering, that way I don't get flamed again...

Try disabling the IG and play the game again.

I only ask for the simple fact that I have no absolute knowledge of what you're talking about.
D_ManXX2 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I was wondering this part too. My bios has no option at all to disable the video card. How does one disable this if there are no option to disable ??
