I understand there's a lot of bad blood between the people here and those over there, specifically people who've been banned from there for stupid reasons and have come here for a better.. everything[Which I agree with, people here seem a lot nicer in genera].

So what's the consensus? Your thoughts on the Nexus?

I'm kinda new here[longtime lurker though], so I figured I'd make my introduction like this.

Personally, I've met quite a few nice people on the Nexus, never been on the forums though, just on mod pages, helping users and modders solve bugs and stuff when I have free time. I like their NMM, it's pretty useful most of the time since I [censored] hate [censored] all my hate [hide your kids] Steam. Steam makes my PC very unhappy*

Anyway. Yeah. Hi. What do you guys think of the Nexus, its moderators, etc?

*- I'm not a pirate, I buy my games off Steam but I still hate it. A LOT!

To be honest I have yet to really be targeted by said moderators who act like immature children so I can't really say anything.  However I've taken to being better safe than sorry.  On top of avoiding the forums and the chat room I also limit myself to just posting likes for mods and downloading.  Don't say much else and relatively keep to myself.  I used to post a fan story for Fallout 3 but I've neglected it for some time and am giving serious thought to just removing it.  Not that I have no time but I dread posting anything anymore will get me targeted by those very moderators who are making everyone miserable over there.

NMM is just to useful a tool to remove.  Unless someone comes up with an alternate I won't be using anything else.

Nexus Mods is a fine site, and has a lot of great mods and modders. As long as you stay out of the community, you should be safe. It's sad that you must do that to be safe, but unfortunately true.

The main problem with it is that while there are a few good people, most of the forum users are generally immature and the forum staff are overly strict and will ban for remarkably petty reasons, such as, as you can see on the ban list, "Inappropriate username", "multiple accounts", cursing, mentioning pirating, etc. Unfortunately, the modders suffer from this overzealous moderating too, with modders getting banned left and right for petty reasons. Their rules on derivative and re-uploading content is so strict that it makes the RIAA look like Sweden, to the point of being genuinely harmful to the modding community.

Another example of the petty rules, on top of the anti-cursing rules - which come from the bizarre idea that any cursing is a form of disrespect in their eyes - is the fact that you are strictly not allowed to mention LoversLab. Why? As one moderator explained to me, LoversLab has very lenient rules on the content that can be uploaded. And so you're not allowed to mention it. Brilliant.

So, the way I do it:

Use NexusMods to download common mods. If I must use the forums, I use them to a minimal extent. Stay off the chat, because that will draw unwanted attention.

Use Loverslab to download the good stuff that you don't want your mother to know about. Use the forums extensively because the people here are cool and I won't get banned for saying fuck or nexusmods.

With a username like this, you can imagine why I registered for LoversLab. But I ended up liking the community.

I love the Nexus. All the mods there to download. That's a wonderful resource.

But the forums and chat? No way! Full of ego stroking, immature shit for brains children. I don't have time for a "community" that treats you in such a manner as to be afraid to interact with said "community" for fear of being banned the second someone's fragile emotions may get bent just slightly. Or, gods forbid, you say something about DorkOne. In that regard LL is a far, FAR better site/community. You can be honest and open here without moderation going over the top and behaving like trolls. Plus the people here are friendlier and more ready to help with problems.

Nexus Mod Manager is junk. Besides being super easy for newbs to use it has no actual worth. It's problems? Constantly bugged and needing upgrades/fixes (like getting three updates in just three days ). It's practically malware in itself the way it behaves and constantly tries to connect/update (which can ruin your game just like Steam will). And it doesn't always fix/restore stuff that's been removed with mods, leaving holes in your game's directory and creating errors that lead to a broken game and you needing to do a complete reinstall.

If you want a manager that works, although it does have a slight learning curve, take a look at Mod Organizer. It's far superior to NMM. It does everything NMM does, like download and install directly from Nexus, and it does so much more. And it actually does it better. Like keeping alternate profiles and game saves that run on different mods. :o You can't do that with NMM. Or how about never actually putting anything inside your Skyrim directory so that your game never, ever gets broken, molested or messed up? This way your game stays as fresh and new as the day you installed it. It does this by running in a virtual directory outside the game, which is simply brilliant.
