Uploading long lost mods? Can a moderator inform me?

This is mostly for a moderator but anyone feel free to comment.

I have the Normandy mod and I want to upload it. I'm trying to make an interior for the ship. I don't know who the mod author is though. Would be okay to upload it in the download section and just credit it to unknown?

3. We may be an adult oriented community, but don't be stupid, don't post anything blatantly illegal. Meaning no discussion or assistance with illegal content such as piracy, game cracks, models or textures taken from the assets of other games, or any depictions of underage persons with exposed nudity or in a sexual context.

If you find yourself asking, "Should I post this questionably legal content?" The answer is simply no!

The link to the rules is on top of every page.

Another thing to consider is that not all mod authors are willing to allow their work, even if it's taken offline, to be uploaded without prior permission.

Thanks Bruce. Always trust Batman to set me straight. I did some looking around and found that the mod in question was posted here and some other places too. It was only removed from the Nexus. So it's safe enough. I just wish I could find the author.

Umm yeah, you're welcome?!

My point was more like that we have to weed out all the mods that are straight rips out of games that don't allow their assets in other games as well at some point. We're only a small team of moderators doing this in our spare time, so naturally there is a lot of stuff flowing around here that has flown past our radar or we just didn't notice it, since we cannot own every game and know all the game content that is out there. Nor can we check every thread and every post for potentially ripped stuff, despite popular belief. So it will take quite some time to catch them all and we're kind of reliant on the community to point them out to us. But if you read the rule we don't allow them here and will remove them, if we do notice them or they get reported by one of our members.

While I personally don't have a problem with using assets from one game in another for (free, non-profit) modding purposes, big corps and their lawyer pets seem to have different opinions on this (there are notable and very commendable exceptions to this rule of course, like CDPR). Maybe some day their marketing managers finally realize the cross-marketing potential that this might have, but hey, I'm not an expert. Until then, the rules apply.

:headscratch:

I read the OP in a different light.....

I find that many of my favorite mods have either disappeared or their prereqs have (not so much here, thank god, but at Nexus...ugh. Im almost ready to quit that site permenantly. [ends rant prematurely])

Is it wrong/ against the rules for someone to upload/ PM a mod that was here and removed or abandoned for "other than rule-breaking reasons" like, ya know, dude had a sudden case of life happen to them?

As long as you have the permission to do so, it is okay. If a mod is abandoned for a long time and doesn't explicitly prohibits redistribution for that particular case, you can upload it as well, as long as proper credit is given. In case of the mod in question, it was likely abandoned and is not available anymore due to the reasons I stated above.

Thants cool.

Just wanted to know if I was wrong to ask for PM/ reup if mods that have gone dead.

I want to play by the rules without losing some of the great stuff.
