DissocialPersonality Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 So I was playing and my game froze while i was quicksaving and i rebooted my computer but now skyrim wont even turn on it gets to that little window when you activate it with SKSE and dies i tried deactivating all mods and reinstalling but still nothing. So what do I do? I looked at the problem signature and it said the gameoverlayrenderer.dll was the fault module name if that helps
Crashdown Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 HeyTry disabling steam community it may help, something similar had F:NV with gameoverlayrenderer.dll...In Steam => Settings => in game
Crashdown Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 -.- it was a long shot anyways... The only thing i can tell you its reinstall steam if you alredy do that and dont work, do a chkdsk /f on the drive where you have steam/skyrim. When you reset you pc it may fuck some steam files in your HDD. Edit: if you dont know what im talking about i can make a tutorial in 10
mcq5 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 The crash before the menu screen normally is a missing master file for a mod. You can confirm all mods masters are present by starting the creation kit and scrolling through the esp's, if a master is not present, it will show up as UNKNOWN on the right, under the parent masters column. You can then highlight UNKNOWN and click on details for the name of the selected master its expecting to be there. CK basics link....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDKivlGmia4 if not, this will solve your problem but you'll need to invest time...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fw3g_N1jcZQ
Veladarius Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 gameoverlayrenderer.dll has been detected as malware by some anti-virus programs and may be quarantined. Check to see if your anti-virus has done this.
DissocialPersonality Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 i tried it again just to try it and now its saying the fault module name is StorageUtil.dll_unloaded there was nothing in my antivirus and nothing in wrong with my masters that i saw.
gvman3670 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Will it start with the regular launcher (TESV.exe) instead of the SKSE launcher?
DissocialPersonality Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 that would cancel out the skse mods wouldnt it?
gvman3670 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 that would cancel out the skse mods wouldnt it? The mods that require SKSE won't function. But it won't "cancel them out" since you could start again with the SKSE launcher and they'd all still be there. But it would help narrow down the issue.
gooser Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Getting the same thing today, after coming back from a 5 day trip. GameoverlayRenderd.dll.
gooser Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 When I run Skyrim through the regular launcher, I do get to the Bethesda/Skyrim logo screen ("Continue/Load..."). When I run it from the SKSE loader, I get the crash and message in the Windows Event Viewer about either GameOverlayRenderer.dll, or StorageUtil.dll (PapyrusUtil) Should I update to the latest Alpha SKSE???
gooser Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I updated to Skse 1.7 alpha, and i still get a crash before the Bethesda loading screen. This time gameoverlayrenderer.dll
gooser Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Deleted both GameOverlayRenderer.dll and GameOverlayRenderer64.dll (read this on another forum, and I understand re-running the Steam client will re-download them). We I run through the Skse loader, I briefly (1-2 secs) see the Bethesda logo, then it crashes. Now I get a consistent error in Event Viewer pointing towards StorageUtil.dll (PapyrusUtil)
lidowxxx Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Do you still have any memory patch installed? like SSME? You should have it removed if you are installing the alpha SKSE. Also check your SKSE.ini and make sure you have the correct settings regarding the memory, the latest SKSE may require some manual adjustment unlike all the versions before which were just install and forget.
gooser Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 SOLVED: See Edit 2 on the following post: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1340190-skse-loader-not-working/ Basically look in your Data\Skse folder for StorageUtil.save and delete it, if it is 0KB or 1KB.

No memory patching. See my last post. Apparently my quicksave invoked a corrupt PapyrusUtil/StorageUtil save.
