Darkjedi12 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 As the title says my game keeps crashing. I thought it might be the Civil War Overhaul mod so I uninstalled that and started a new game. I can not figure out what it is. One game I started out right outside Markarath, right when I got to the city it froze and CTD'd. That is when I uninstalled Civil War. I started a new game, this time as an Orc and everything is running fine. I am going up after the red eagle sword quest. I get to the path to start up there, and there is a mudcrab, I kill it, no problem, start going up again and another mudcrab. And the game freezes. Every time, at that spot. Just like with Markarath, and other spots. I can not figure it out at all. Everything is loading right in BOSS and in TES5Edit. I just can't figure this out. Here is my load order. Honesty Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Shaydow - I'm not sure if it's on your CTD guide or not, but you should mention some important things: 1.) No Clean-Saving exists in Skyrim. You can "Clean Save" but it's not like Oblivion/Fallout3/Fallout New Vegas. Info gets stored, forever, in that save until you delete it or make a new character. 2.) There is a 3.1 memory limit on Skyrim. Try not to exceed too many 248/4096 sized textures and shadows. One can use ENBoost to get around this. 3.) Papyrus logging - Sometimes it's not even Skyrim that is crashing you. But a mess-load of script based mods that may be hiccuping or flat out killing your save. Try to be a minimalist and use as little script based mods as possible. Also: Never use Civil War mods. 4.) There is a new Skyrim Memory patch that allocates more memory to the initial loading of skyrim, preventing CTD's that may occur normally throughout the game. This is not snake-oil; THOUSANDS are having a much better Skyrim Experience now. i have not crashed ONCE after using a recompiled skse loader. 5.) Do not add stupid lines that should not normally be in your .in file, to try to "stabilize" Skyrim. "maxmemoryallocatedbytes=39849834ksljdklsajdlajsd943943" is one such stupid thing to enter into your file. REMOVE IT.

Honestly man, your papyrus log is a fucking mess. I'm not kidding - it's insanely fucked up. it looks as if you "uninstalled" waaay too many script based mods, and left their scripts still in the folder, or uninstalled them and kept the same saved game. There is no clean save in Skyrim. The mods you're running now, you'll run forever - that is until you start a completely new game and make sure EVERY SINGLE TRACE of that mod is gone from your skyrim folders. My papyrus log is only 20kb or so with a FUCK ton of mods. it goes down to about 6~8kb when not using Wet&Cold, Frostfall, etc. And the only "error's" I ever have are the ones everyone has who plays Skyrim + FrostFall, CH, W&C checking for add-on's and such.

You MUST make sure EVERY SINGLE TRACE of those script based mods are gone. You have TONS of papyrus log spam. Your papyrus log, after about 10 mins of testing, should only be about 8~20kb and should only have about 4~10 lines max.

I have uninstalled mods, and then started a new game which is what you have said SEVERAL times. If the mod is gone the scripts should not be running at all.

Add ENBoost + Memory patch to that list and you'll feel like you're playing some kinda super-advanced version of Skyrim that beth "forgot" to add themselves.

I have lost count of how many times I have started a new game. Hmm I think all of them have been done by NMM, who knows now. I can't remember. I am just frustrated as hell and have FINALLY come to the forums. The ENB stuff I haven't tried at all. I am currently uninstalling all the mods I have, then going to uninstall the game delete anything left over, and then reinstall it.

But seriously you have way too many mods installed. uninstalling a mod is not enough you need to delete every single trace of it or you will bloat your game. if you used mod organizer you only need to deactivate it and it will be gone unlike manual install.

A lot of mods people imstalled "back in the day" all come NMM enabled now, or come in packs, etc...You can download entire landscape packs, and then mountain and then certain Skyrim2K (or whichever you prefer in what order) and be done in no time. As for body/mesh/texture replacing; same thing. Don't forget to uninstall/delete the skyrim folders in MyDocuments.If I can remember a short order of things, it's this... I'll do my best. 1.) Uninstall and reinstall Skyrim - let everything update 2.) Install the CK (this is important) - let everything update 3.) Set Skyrim *AND* the CK, under "tools", to: "DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE THIS GAME" 4.) Install latest unofficial Skyrim, Dawnguard, Hearthfires and Dragonborn patches - put them in the NEW correct load order way 5.) install steve40's script fixes - all except the dunbluepalace one, as unofficial patches have taken care of that problem 6.) get latest SKSE 7.) Launch Skyrim via Steam and set all your options. NEVER (of course) launch this way again, unless you want your .ini file to get overwritten 8.) Launch game, set options how you want them via in-game 9.) Do all your .ini tweaking (my documents folder) - back backups of your .ini files incase you accidently launch via steam (I do this sometimes) and not NMM/SKSE 10.) Get the Memory Patch and ENBoost.
gvman3670 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I suggest just uninstalling Skyrim, deleting the entire folder it's in, going to documents/my games/Skyrim and deleting that entire folder, and look for appsdata/local/Skyrim and deleting that mess, too. Then download Mod Organizer. Learn to use it (there is a good amount of support for it here in this forum). This alone could make it possible to NEVER have to reinstall your game by never messing with the clean install (and it does this by using virtual folders outside of the game). NMM and manual installs can leave "holes" in your game when install and uninstall things, but that's not an issue with MO. You should then reinstall Skyrim and download all the latest "unofficial" patches for it. I would also strongly suggest cleaning everything at this point, before adding a single mod, with TES5Edit (you can get it from the Nexus). Optimizing textures isn't a bad idea and that app can be found on the Nexus, too. Get and install the mempatch at this point and you should be ready to start you modding adventure and having a clean, crash-free game.

CGi Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 To seriously mod Skyrim and keep it stable and working as intended, you need: a good mod manager (Mod Organizer recommended), BOSS (as it's a good starting point for a valid plugin load order), TES5Edit (to clean plugins, merge some into one plugin [where applicable], to find errors and most important to create a merged patch), Wrye Bash (even tho TES5Edit covers leveled lists in its merged patch, the Bashed Patch can still do some more things). And the CK is the Creation Kit. Not needed if you only want to play Skyrim, no matter if with or without mods.
Guest Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 First off, I don't wanna add to your frustration, but you need to minimal your usage of script mods. From what I have seen in your log. You must have uninstalled script based mods unsafely, and now they leave orphaned scripts in your save (and probably in your script folder). So, reinstall the games, and only keep the lighting mods + Wet and Cold + Civil War Overhaul (Apollodown is a crazy guy, but when it comes to modding, he's quite awesome). Absolutely remove LIAT (it's a piece of crap), get rid off all the Populated blah blah mods, get rid of Random Encounter, EtAC... (these three overloads your ingame cells). Get rid of RealEstate + SkyAI (a replacement for SkyAI is Revenge of the Enemy). Adventurer and Traveler can also be replaced by Immersive Patrol. Also, don't use UFO and AFT, they conflict with each other. One more thing, Lanterns of Skyrim, Headtracking, FireAndIceOverHaul, Enhanced Blood, and Wet and Cold are one dead combo to your game and your CPU (they run checking loop every 2 - 8 seconds). SkyBird is a waste of time, trust me, too many objects for a weak premise. Furthermore, standalone followers with behavior scripts can caused irreversible damage to your save, don't ever use more than one. One last thing, never ever use more than one spell mod. Urg, another last thing, BOSS doesn't sort all your plugins. Unrecognized plugins are pushed into the bottom. You have to sort these manually. P/s: No seriously, I don't know how powerful your PC is, but this load order will not work. My humble opinion, try to narrow down your script mods to a few essential ones, don't use too many mods that add NPC, don't use custom followers (most of the time you will look at them once then move on alone, so why waste your computing power on them?), don't use town, cities modifying mods if you wanna run Skyrim with 250+ mods, read mod description and discussion before installing any mod (I'm sure that there are hundreds of people complaining that SkyBird and LIAT killed their save, and that the author of UFO clearly states that it is incompatible with AFT). D_ManXX2 Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 Also be careful with beta of tesedit: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48449 Several people have already been complaining about how tesedit not working right and killed all of there efforts in cleaning or maintaining mods through this tool. I also noticed this, but luckily i still made a backup of all esp before even starting this tool. So it was an easy revert to original status.

Well, jujing by some of ArtMurder's posts, and his other mods(oversaturated, acid colored sweetfx presets, giant chickens, randomly placed bunch of moons all over the sky), that man might really be at fault, not tes5edit.
