"Autism is not a disorder"

Unmasking is hard and difficult, but it can go a long way.
Grief will hit, once you realize you are autistic. Grief over a life you could have had, but never will.

Once you get to terms with all that, you are okay and can live a good and extremely open life.

There are like three stages to it, after you find out you are autistic, especially if you are already an adult.

Relief (You suddenly have explanations you so desperately needed) - Grief (You come to realize what could have been in the past without the autism on your back) - Acceptance (This is the state you can finally move forward from)

The grief stage is where most of us give up, sadly. It is a lot. You see all your life in review and see what got fucked up and why. And you will never get a second chance to go back and change it. If you are already in your late 30s or 40s, this is where it will hit you the hardest, and a lot do not make it through that phase.

I've been there and survived. You're pointing out something real here, and it feels good to read that I'm not alone in that experience, so thank you. I made the first steps toward moving on. The important part is, you have to try and be constructive, and thanks to corona I was so tired of isolation and destructive behaviour that I turned it around, once society started working again.

I had the luck of having a friend I could reconnect with, and he helped me realize you can't do anything about what was, and it's the now and what you do with the rest of your life that matters. Years that weren't as productive or positive as you wanted are still experiences you take with you.

I totally relate. Less than a month ago I was clinically dead for several minutes. It was one of those days.
I am still stuck somewhere between grief and total acceptance. Most of the times I am good, but there are single days, where it all comes crashing in.
And then I have to read some bumf*ck saying it is vaccines and whatnot. I am sorry, I lack the patience for that XD

P.S.: Sorry for the many edits on all my comments. That is my ADHD kicking in. I will always find something to add or improve.

I love that this topic exists. We are straying of it, but Autism awareness is and should be a thing.
We missed the mark in what was actually asked, but I think it is important nonetheless.

We, and the world at large, would be much better off, if people understood. Really understood.

We struggle a lot, but not necessarily because we are autistic. We struggle, because (neurotypical) people and society are not ready for us.
At the core, I think we are the better and more honest and direct people, and I think they are scared. Being direct and honest does not work in a corporate world. They prefer very much to dance around a topic for two hours, before getting to the essence of it. And then there is this constant and mutual ball shaking. You will already have lost my interest by then and I will be off to eat a sandwich.
We have a heightened justice sensitivity. If I have to witness an injustice going on, it causes me physical discomfort until I step in. Pattern recognition allows me to immediately assess people and situations. How is that not good for society? It is obviously bad for people that have dirt under their rug,

I am the perfect companion during a Zombie Apocalypse, cause I shine when shit hits the fan (and I have rehearsed that scenario a couple dozen times). :)
