You need to allow for multiple choices :)

My main gaming is with 1.10.984 PC, but I have installation in 1.10.163.0 GOG for Fallout London and for checking F4SE plugins, and also both a 1.11.137 and a 1.11.159.0 installation to port the F4SE plugins.

Your choice should really be based on the mods you want to use, and not what the rest of us are running.

If your desired mods only work with an older version of F4SE, then that limits you (probably to 1.10.163).  If all of your stuff will run on the new AE (and if Bethesda got the kinks worked out with their hotfix) then use the AE edition.

In my eyes due to AE you could skip next-gen (984). I am still on 163 with an appmanifest that makes Steam believe I have the actual version. That lets me access Creation Club content. Maybe I can't buy new ones. That I didn't test, but I could get back the ones I already had. Mods like Sup F4SE never got an update since 163 and so every dependent mod won't work anymore. In my eyes the decision would be pre next-gen or AE. Atm I would prefer pre next-gen as AE will perhaps get further updates. Here is a tutorial that acc. to the author shows how to use different FO 4 copies: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/98422 If that works it would be nice for testing. You can also test different versions if you have more than one full installed hard drive in your computer so you can choose the one to be booted at start up.

❯ strings Fallout4.exe | grep -A 1 "Release Final" | tail -n 1
1.10.163.0

I honestly don't get the point of NG. Prior to that mods already did everything it offers. And they did it better.

I also don't get the point of AE. CC stuff is just a clutter, best of which still doesn't hold a candle to community mods and expansions.

So - I'm not giving them extra $$$ for trying to sell me the same thing or something worse than a free community alternative - and breaking all those community alternatives in the process.

So i am about to return to modding fallout4. I have noticed its had all sorts of recent updates. Can i fully sexually mod fallout 4 in its latest game version and F4SE version? or will i have to drop back to a previous version of both etc? i personally love to always use latest but i understand that many mods may not have been updated. any help or advice please. :)

I'm using the GOG version 1.10.163 PC.  I use Caliente V2.72 without any problems.  I also have many of the mods from the F-ing manual, plus others.  I also run Sim Settlements All Chapters.  I had no problems until I reached level 46.  Now, I am having a NavMesh issue outside of the County Crossing settlement.  If I move in the direction of Revere Satillites, I get a CTD.  The Buffout 4 auto scan posts the following:

Checking for NPC Pathing Crash............CULPRIT FOUND!
> Priority Level: [3] | Detected number of PathingCell | BSPathBuilder | PathManagerServer :  3  |  0  |  0

Everything I found online points to a navmesh issue, but none of my mods seem to edit the navmesh outside of any interiors or settlements.  I am wondering if it is one of my followers.  I have Ivy, Strong, & Piper.  Prior to coming to County Crossing (then trying to leave) it wasn't a problem.

I downloaded 1.10.,163 from the Steam file repository including the DLC's and GECK for that version.

I have no interest in the Creation Club, still likely have the free 500 atoms they gave away when it first opened. When I looked initially any mods worth getting I had gotten for free before the CC even opened.

I have 3 versions, but maining now .984 NG, everything works ok( save is about 300h and still much so much things to do), but i remember version .163 was lot more stable.

I came back after starfield failure, i dont care about CC either.

But after this session, i propably trying to get SF change, i hope they have fixed nexus and free modding and also some adult stuff.
