Hello everyone, long time no see. It’s been almost half a year since I last came to the forum, and I really missed you all. During this time, something happened in my family, so I hardly had any time to focus on online things or mod making.

The promised Kai no Kiseki V2.0 mod and the Kuro no Kiseki 1 & 2 mods have been delayed for quite a while, but I hope I can make up for them in the near future.

Recently, the demo version of Trails in the Sky FC Remaster has also been released, and I tried the game.

My impression of it is that it leans more toward an illustration style: the 3D models are relatively simplified, with fewer shadows and details, carrying a bit of a hand-painted feeling, and overall giving off a nostalgic vibe. In contrast, I personally prefer the more realistic 3D style of Kai no Kiseki.

This also determined the direction of my modding. I will try to make the rendering style of the models closer to Kai no Kiseki.
This time, I still used the new body model and textures from Kai no Kiseki. Let me show you a comparison. The first picture is based on Trails in the Sky’s rendering style, while the second picture is adjusted to resemble Kai no Kiseki’s rendering style.

I’ve listed 3 main comparisons:

  1. The rendering style of Sky makes the chest area particularly blurry. It may not look obvious in my screenshots, but in certain story dialogues you can really see it.

  2. The details of the hands and fingers: this is also hard to show in screenshots. In the Kai no Kiseki-like adjustment, I added normal maps, while the original Sky rendering does not have normal maps. If possible, I suggest you download both mdl files, try them out, and let me know which one you prefer.

  3. The reduction of body contour lines: since Sky leans toward illustration style, both clothing and body outlines have very thick lines, which makes it overly cartoonish. I reduced the line thickness. In screenshots (such as in the equipment menu) it may not look obvious, but once you play on the world map, the difference becomes very clear. Personally, I prefer the thinner body outlines. Again, I recommend downloading both mdls and comparing them in-game.

I’ll also attach a game screenshot. Which style do you like better?

In addition to the rendering adjustments, I also focused on physics and collision this time. For the first time, I added very soft and bouncy “jelly-like” breasts for Estelle’s nude body. Better just watch the video directly.

Installation Guide

The installation this time is a bit more complicated, but @amorrow28 has already provided a method. I’ll repeat it here:

Since Sky packs all models, textures, and config files into .pac archives, and the game prioritizes reading .pac files, you must extract the files from the .pac archives into the game’s root directory and then rename the .pac files (just change the extension so it’s not .pac, for example .pa).

Before installing my mod, please make sure you have extracted the following 3 files:

  • asset_common_model.pac

  • asset_common_model_info.pac

  • image.pac

Then place the extracted asset folder into the game root directory.

Finally, download my mod, extract it, and copy the asset folder into the game root directory.

 

nude.zip My personal recommendation is the rendering style leaning toward Kai no Kiseki.

nude - Hand-drawn style.zip This is based on the default rendering style of Trails in the Sky.

Even gggnog said they wanted folks to holler at ’em first before any redistributin’. And don’t reckon all the modders gonna just turn the other cheek, no sir. Otherwise, somebody might get mad as a wet hen, ha!

Great mod. But is it not possible to take off the bra in your variations? Same with estelle. WOuld love to use some of the variations as topless

I can't believe we are going to lose a modder who made mods with the same level of artistic quality as Lakovic and jmedia7. 

 

And they just started modding, to boot.

I was wondering about the rendering style. Could you please describe the artistic vision or image you were going for?

I'm not looking for specific numerical values, but rather the overall feel you were trying to achieve.

For example, something like "the style of 'The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel'" or "'The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky,'" similar to what Mx. @lakovic mentioned. A

ny insight into the art style or works that inspired you would be greatly appreciated.

Regarding rendering style, if you're asking whether I lean toward realism or cartoonish aesthetics when creating mods, I try to stay as close as possible to the original style of the game. So in this case, it's the cartoon-style rendering of Trails in the Sky.

 

If you're asking about my design considerations when creating the underwear mod, it's the same principle: I aim to preserve the original style and immersion. For example, Estelle gives me the impression of being a lively and down-to-earth girl, so I kept her underwear textures simple and clean. Kloe, due to her background, has a more elegant feel, so her main outfit features white lace to convey a sense of nobility. For other outfits, I match the colors and preserve distinctive features of the clothing as much as possible during mod creation.

 

As for immersion, I know this post has seen some debate around nude and sexy mods. I don't intend to get involved in that, and what I say next might be misunderstood as disliking certain mods, so I want to clarify: I actually like both nude and sexy mods. But depending on the game, I have different preferences to maintain immersion. For this game, I feel that fully nude mods break my sense of engagement during walking around the city. I think your Chirarizm mod and my underwear mod strike a great balance, showcasing feminine beauty without overly disrupting immersion. So for the Trails series, I personally don't create nude mods. Instead, I enjoy observing character personalities and try to express my interpretation of them through creating underwear mods. But again, that's just my personal preference, it doesn't mean I oppose or judge others' choices. In fact, for Trails games, I always use nude mods to replace the bath towel models. But since others have already made full nude mods, there's no need for me to jump in.

 

In the end, it's not really about artistic vision or imagery, it's more about me, as a player, expressing my love for this game in my own style.

I understand you. Though I like more nudity, I always prefer half-nude mods or at least mods that keep footwear intact (or add some) for personal immersion. If not, full nudes on towel items and skimpy default outfits for so I can choose based on my mood.

...What the hell happened here? I come back a few days later and apparently someone ragequit modding because people think sexy outfits aren't good enough and it's nude or nothing?

 

Like, I'm not into nude mods but I'd never tell people to stop making them.

Really unfortunate that the high nervousness (神経質) of various related personae (関係者) has lead to the current unfortunate situation (残念な状況).

But it is what it is. I'll keep checking out here and other various places for mods.

I haven't studied it much, but mods made in MDL v1 should work directly in Sky 1st. However, if a mod uses textures from Kai and the mod doesn't include them, you might need to take those textures from the original game. If the mod was created in MDL v4, you'll need to downgrade it first. you might also need the chrxxxx_face.mdl file from the game, otherwise, the face will deform. Again, I haven't studied it much, so I could be wrong.

Just a heads up, at least the "B" option ( only one ive tested) Estelle cant wear glasses, they just dont show up. all other accessories seem fine.

Although it's not the case with this game, in other games, you and I share the same taste😂. In my personal taste, when using a nude mod, I always find it more attractive to leave some clothing, at the very least, socks on the characters. I think I modified one of jmedia7 nude mod into a half nude version simply because I couldn't find a half nude mod for that game, though I can't remember which game it was.

same here, i'd prefer to have topless instead of full nude, but all i can find in this thread is either full nude or underwear mods

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I fully agree with your principle of staying close to the original style. I also share your view of reflecting each character’s personality in the underwear design.

That said, I must admit there are cases in my own work where I don’t retain any of the original outfit’s features (I do take bold liberties at times).

 

Your line about “observing the character’s personality and expressing your interpretation through underwear mods” really resonated with me.

I approach it from the costume side in much the same way—using silhouette, color palette, and material feel to convey my reading of a character’s personality.

 

As for the debates around nude vs. sexy mods, I also have absolutely no interest at all in those discussions and will not be participating. Since some people tend to persist on this topic, I would like to make my stance clear: I don’t create full-nude mods myself, but I have no intention of criticizing those who do. After all, as outfit creators we construct the base body (nude model) beneath the clothing; it would make no sense for me to deny full-nude mods. To me, it is simply a matter of individual taste and use case.

 

As a fellow mod author—though I regard your experience and skill as above mine—I found your thoughts on production very helpful and instructive.

I truly appreciate the insight you shared.
