Broken... so very broken

I didn't know whether to put this here or in rants, because this is more for me to complain than to get some real help, since the list of broken mods is so long, and not entirely related to Sexlab. Also I'm quite sure this is mostly my own fault. That being said, I'm going to let off a little steam.

Firstly, the CTD's. The CTDs CTDs CTDs my goodness the mass amount of CTD's. I swear it's a percentage chance based on my current mood. They happen if I sleep, they happen when I save, they happen when I reach a loading screen. They happen when I fast travel, They even happen when I adjust Sexlab animation positions. Character creation is like 90% chance of a crash.

Moving on, I have a few mods in my list that don't even work. Never have, so I don't know why I even have them. Estrus is another CTD maker, and in the rare even that an animation works, it will crash at the end. Generate FNIS for Users reports a million missing animations for Estrus, despite me installing it correctly (as far as I know). I recently got a Werepanther non-replacer that affects only the Kajiit werewolf transformation, No dice. Still the default Werewolf. I can't get support for it because the next day it was removed from the Nexus without warning or reason given. (is that anything new though?)  furthermore, now all Dragur and falmer run around with permanent boners, and it's a bit hard to take them seriously now. I just want to get my most powerful spell and get them out of the way in one hit so I don't have to deal with them.

BOSS is no help, FNIS generator is minimal help, headdesking obviously doesn't help.

yeah mods are tricky to work with. I made a major hash of my first go and had to end up completely reinstalling skyrim and starting over.

What I find works best if you want to add mods is this. Make a test game, with no mods. play it and get out of the starting area. Save then go add 1-3 mods. log back in and play for a bit and see if their is a issue. Then log off and add 1-3 more mods, log back on and play for a bit and see if you have issues.

Keep repeating this process till you run across a problem, then uninstall the last mods you installed till you find the one causing the problem. Sometimes it is a conflict between mods and sometimes a mod is just no updated anymore.

If you keep doing this slowly over time you will get all the mods you want that will work installed. Then you can start a brand new game with all the mods installed and play how you want. A pain but a safe way to get the game running right with the mods you want.

best of luck.

Nuke it just like me, take a big hard strong piece of bloody steak, put it between your teeth and destroy your entire skyrim folder. Install it completely again from steam, then try to install only the mods you have a problem with at first, with all their requirements. If you still have problems, tweak the load order. If you still have problems, replace the big hard strong piece of bloody steak with your neighbor's baby, then try removing the mods that causes the most issues and wait for their makers to release more stable versions.
Loverslab mods are fun, but boy they mess up your game so hard if you do something wrong ...

Good luck, just tried my completely new Skyrim with the mods I had problems with and I have a baby to steal now.

There are ShowRaceMenu_PreCacheKiller(#33526 on skyrim nexus) and SafetyLoad(#46465) that help with some specific crashes, caused by Skyrim not handling out-of-memory conditions well. The other thing to help with memory pressure is to reduce the size of textures(do you really need all those 4096x4096 textures?).

A totally different problem that causes trouble(once you get past the CTDs) is script lag. Manifests in certain actions taking a long time to happen. Some possible solutions can be found in http://www.loverslab.com/topic/15454-solutions-to-slow-running-scripts-in-skyrim/. I'm not sure, but i guess Skyrim forgets to run some scripts when things take too long, or something. Anyway, a faster machine should help with that as well.

That is all i can add, good luck.

Thanks for your replies, I was half expecting a lot of "STFU and deal with it" but I received some honest help, thank you all. As for 4096 textures, I'm mostly  running default non-HD textures, although I did recently get an ENB. It didn't affect the stability of my game any, positively or negatively. The only HD mods I have affect the look of water and fire.On the subject of whether or not my PC can handle the mods, I have a self-made computer consisting of a Core2Duo 2.4ghz stably overclocked to 3.0ghz, 4gb DDR2 RAM, 10GB of Virtual Memory, Two 1TB HDDs, and an ASUS Radeon HD 7770 video card. Another issue I forgot to mention in my rant is I occasionally get booted out of Skyrim with a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error. I don't have many script-based mods, mostly added armors, weapons, locations, beauty mods, that sort. The only script mods I can think of are Sexlab-related, and one called WARZONES. I may remove that one, as it does cause a framerate drop when there's 100+ NPCs battling it out with each other in one area. Were I able to afford it, I'd get a SSD and a better processor, otherwise I'm stuck with what I have.

Yeah you should be able to run things though with that video card I would watch using to many high graphic ones. it is not a bad video card but not fantastic either.

Warzones I think is also pretty script heavy to run all the new NPC patrols.

It might not be so much of broke mods as you are just hitting the limit of what your computer can handle and it eventually gets bogged down with scripts slowly as more and more get activated as you play the game till you get a CTD.

I still say the best thing to try is do the test game and then add only a couple of mods at a time and play each time. When you get CTD's then it will help you figure out which mod is the problem. You might not get to use all the mods you want and may be forced to chose between two mods you really want but can only use one. But that is better than no mods at all.

Either way best of luck and if you run into a specific problem feel free to ask for help.

A dual core and 4gigs of ram is not enough for even a lightly modded Skyrim using the hefty ENB shader system and some high res texture packs, this could be one reason why you're getting random CTD's during random times seeking load.

I experiment with various Skyrim mods on my lan box which has a i3 2100 @ 3ghz, 6gb of ddr3 ram and a gtx670 and using just some texture packages and realvision enb I get CTD's or extremely laggy/frozen moments at intense graphic situations especially crowded NPC's in town areas. Skyrim itself uses about 1-1.2gb of ram but enb on the other hand uses 1.8-2gb of ram as per inspected in Task Manager, although I do have my enb settings 90% maxed out via shift+enter, just problems with zaz animation package and sexlab not working with each other properly with random crashes or clusterfucked animations.

Posted

These problems started long before I got the ENB, and the one I have is OK for low-end PCs. (http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/15983/?) I've not had any memory based issues yet, My belief is that I either did something wrong, or some mods may not be agreeing with each other. Also any time I install a script heavy mod, or one that could cause instability or something that would be a pain to remove or is considered an overhaul, I first make a full copy of my Skyrim folder so I can revert if something goes horribly wrong. My game stayed stable for a long time, it didn't seem to start until I got some Sexlab mods.

Posted

Some of them (the sexlab ones) are still WIPs/in Beta/Cause conflicts with lots of other mods, as I told you as soon as you have a game stopping issue with a sexlab mod, the best way would be to install your skyrim completely from scratch again. Which sexlab mods do you use ?

Well I may as well just paste my whole load order in here...

Well first thing to try and get a papyrus log and post the result up in a spoiler tag. So we can see if you are getting errors and warnings and which mods might be the cause.

Could be any number of things, a mod installed incorrectly, a mod conflicting with another mod etc. The Papyrus log will go a long way in helping find out what the problem might be.

Oddly enough, I haven't had any more crashes since my last post. I've been trying to reproduce the events that usually cause the CTDs, but to no avail. Sorry I haven't got back to you on this sooner, but I've been working hard to MAKE Skyrim crash

It is good it is running for you. But that still makes me think it might have just gotten bogged down by scripts all running till it CTD. Since they won't all run all the time, it could just be one of those times where you did several things in a row making scripts run. Then before some stopped running you ran across more things to make them run till so many was running you got a crash. Or it is possible one of the scripts got hung up trying to run and wouldn't turn off. *shrug* Either way good it is working and hopefully you don't have any more issues.

I have a rig not that different from yours a little better here, a little worse there and the one thing I have learned is to avoid having too many script heavy mods at once. Very similar issues to yours but once I cut back to using only one or two heavily scripted mods I have had a far better experience.

My rule for trouble reduced Skyrim is only ONE mod that relies on continuous running scripts and minimal other mods that require heavy script use when in action.

It is actually got me to the point where I am planning my next rebuild as I cant do what I want to anymore. Good luck resolving your gaming issues, hope you find a happy medium of complexity vs instability

I know from experience that the Spike.esm causes CTD's. I had the Guard Dialog overhaul and the spike esm, and it was just terrible. Try it without those.

Really ? I'm looking everywhere for the causes of my rare CTDs, and I've noticed this SPIKE appearing out of nowhere after I installed Immersive Armors V6. I've downloaded ImA v7, but BOSS says my game will crash without SPIKE. Do you have a solution perhaps ? (sorry about hijacking your post shark girl)

Don't think Spike is part of Immersive armor's, I say this cause I am using IA and I don't have spike. I have never seen spike before.

Ah I looked it up and weird information about that. It seems it was part of Guard Dialogue Overhaul mod, but also part of the IA patch to upgrade. It seems it is a script that lets NPC's comment on your gear and stuff. Basically it tells them what you have equipped.

So it seems several mods will install it, the odd thing is I have IA and don't have spike. *shrug* who knows.

I don't have Guard Dialogue Overhaul though :o Where does that crap comes from ahahaha

Just went to SPIKE's blog page on Nexus. Looks like it did come from my last version of IA, and that it's a compatibility master file used by lots of modders on Nexus, that became obsolete quite a long time ago. Which means it became obsolete after some modders decided to arbitrarily include it in their packages without informing anyone on their nexus pages, and even made it their explicit master so it would be impossible to remove it without making the mod itself crash.

Or that's what I think I've understood. In short : "oopsies we put crap in your load order but you can't remove it, oh well you never saw it until today anyway lulz"

Posted

Yeah I read it and agree I don't like stuff being put in to support other mods as default. It is fine as a optional download. Like if Immersive armors had a optional download for it saying DL this to have this armor and weapons used by the guard over haul. Yeah cool makes completely sense and I agree.

The really really odd thing is it seems it was part of the patch but not the main install of IA. I say this cause I have IA as well but I just used the main install and not the patch/upgrade and I don't have spike. Which makes even less sense. *shrug*

At this point all I can say is I am glad i don't.

That's weird though, it appeared all of a sudden when I installed Skyrim again last week, I'm pretty sure it didn't exist before. I have issues getting the technical stuff in english on the SPIKE's blog file with my french brain showing itself after college exams, does it really say it became obsolete and is not needed anymore ? Should I just edit the dependencies with TES5edit or the CK to get rid of it or carry on until hothtrooper fixes this ? His v7 looks really rough somehow, BOSS went banana after I installed it and I had to install v6 then v7 over it for it to calm down ... I don't even know if v7 successfully overwrote v6's bsa eh

Looking at the posted load order, Estrus is by far the biggest CTD... I only tried it to help someone out on Hentai Pregnancy, and whether it was a new save or an old one, if I had Estrus in the list, it would crash hard on saves, fast travel (auto save), sleeping (again auto save)...

Spike ( as mentioned) also has a tendency to CTD, but usually within the game, not so much on Saves...

A few questions.. Do you run BOSS for your load order?   Or Ordinator for .bsa's and texture optimizing?   How about Tes5edit?   (Usually use that to fix duplicates)...

If you have the time and havent used it before, WryeBash is helpful as well...

Mostly, try BOSS and Ordinator.. oh, and get rid of Estrus...

That might be the issue then, using a older version that still had Spike. I used only the most recent version and it didn't have Spike in it.

From reading the blog from my understanding is SPIKE is no longer needed for anything unless you are using guard overhaul mod. Least that was the impression I got from reading it as other programs now handle stuff like that better but the guard one I am guessing was never updated, so still needs spike.

Anyways, english is my native language and I still found some of it confusing.

As for editing and stuff, I have no comment on that. Mostly cause I just don't know enough yet if that is a good idea or not, nor how to do it for sure. So hopefully someone with a lot more experience than I, can help you with that.

I have both Guard Dialogue Overhaul AND Immersive Armors, and SPIKE points to GDO when I search it. It's fine that you're all discussing this, it could lead to figuring something out. I may just uninstall GDO and SPIKE, and see what happens.

Any luck on finding the issue. I am kinda out of idea's at this point. But was curious.

I think it just went ahead and fixed itself, as soon as I start complaining about something not doing it's job, that's when it actually starts doing it's damn job lol
