Myst42 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I'm posting this so anything related to this subject could be discussed Also to see if anybody can give me a help with a small dilemma I'm making one but I'm not sure what's the best combat style to use It's clear the main strength of a necromancer is summoning and reanimating the dead The secondary skill must be poison But what about combat? I could go battlemage and use dual wield I could use only magic and make them kill each other long before they see me with every fallen soldier counting as one of mine I could also use only destruction magic, but it wouldn't feel much like a necromancer or perhaps it would but I'm not sure. But then where would the poison fit... I could even use a bow to kill them from a safe distance and then reanimate. Strange choice Perhaps there is a nice necromancer scythe mod somewhere to use as one or two handed, which looks better than a tiny dagger that is yet another option I'm inspiring in a baddass character type... you know I saw those dragon priests and OMG they look awesome... I wanted the same for my character. Necromancer robes (the black ones) look silly, you don't look powerful, you just look like a black sweet roll. I want my character to look like this While commanding this army So far I managed to learn things usually go like this: Major skills: -Conjuration -Alchemy Minor skills -Restoration (for healing purposes and the necromage perk plus a certain poison rune) Variant support: -Alteration (people use it for mass control) -Illusion (people use it to wreak havoc on enemy troops before launching your undead or to boost your undead soldier's stats Then it all gets messy -One handed (poisoned daggers? blades? axes with the hack and slash perk?) -Destruction Any experiences/recommendations/pictures and descriptions of your necromancers?
Guest Ragna_Rok Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 necromancer? ... hm.... if you go heavy armor battlemage, check out my warlock armor. or warlock daggers / weapons, links in signature. also the nocturnal sword could fit. if you go for bow, go for my blood- or skull-bow. and if you need daggers or other skull weapons, check out "ragna-rok's stuff for real berserkers", and on that mod also download black retextures. if you use some stuff, always happy about likes / comments / a voting ... have fun, and good luck anyway cheers ps: black armor is on the way, not as a retex, but standalone retextured version of the ebony class... maybe tonight after having created all my regular weapons i wanted sth that was fitting to heavy orcshamans... something that would look brutal, but also have a magic-touch. thats where those designs came from.
Myst42 Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Ok thanks for those... I'm only missing some power of decision on what the hell am I going to do with the style which in turn defines the weaponry... stealthy? ranged? or bloodthirsty bladedancer? hmmm... I forgot to mention I usually don't like heavy armor style much. even wielding blades, I prefer to go light and kick the crap out of them before the even notice I also forgot to mention my necromancer is... A girl!!! Of course she is All my characters are girls except for my one heroic knight paladin in shining heavy armor...
Guest Ragna_Rok Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 robes. custom enchanted. go dagger and destruction after summoning. you could use destruction by staffs, to focus on conjuration (includes soultrap). secondary melee profession a single-handed sword. just what i would do though
Guest Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 get the skeleton follower from inpc and herman the mad, ultimate perk pack to summon up to 10 creatures and summon mastery for all kind of undeath from simple skeletons over draugr and vampires up to lich dragons.
FreeSpirit Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 You could check out "the necromancer" build on skyrim build blog under legendary builds. nice use of the The Aetherial Crown with the ritual stone, just reequip to be able to raise the army again and again. Also for a litch form check out this mod. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40607/?
Jexsam Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I'd go with Destruction staffs with a dagger or shortsword in your off hand when you aren't casting spells with it. A staff would fit thematically without making it your character directly casting the spells.
TheOzoneHole Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Having used Undeath (link is in RogueSavage's post), I will say that a Destruction & Conjuration based mage, with poisoned dagger backup in SkyRe is a force to not be taken lightly. SkyRe adds a whole harvest blood, bone and body parts thing to the Conjuration skill track to make it really perfect for necromancers, and Undeath letting you change into a Litch is really cool. My only issues with the latter were the lack of patches for RND & Frostfall, and since you can't quit hovering, getting through some doors is an issue. But really, the focus on Destruction, Conjuration & Alchemy with enchanted Light Armor or Robes (if you choose robes you also need Alteration for Mage Armor) is powerful.
FreeSpirit Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Also if your planning to play vampire with the necromage perk and happen to use the unofficall skyrim patch, They actually removed it to work on you. but as always there is a counter patch. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/28781/? just like there is a counter patch so you can pickpocket a trainer for money back. And the restoration glitch. They started to fix things that didnt really need fixing.
Myst42 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 Instinctively I went exactly the way Jexsam said. Destruction staff, frost destruction spells, reanimation, healing and a dagger. Had to use a mod to be able to hotkey the dagger to the left hand. The poison is still only doable on right though. I ended up using the enhanced perk mod in hope to be able to have more minions without making it overpowered I also drooled when looking at the possibility of becoming a Lich so that mod is also on the list. I just wish the Lich form could replace the vampire lord to avoid the overpower effect... Maybe I'm considering another mod called "Skeleton Horde" or something like it... it says it can summon up to 15 armored skeletons to be your personal army. I hope it's not too overpowered... On roleplay and story notes, I named her Alma, which is Spanish for soul, perhaps I'll add to her fictional story the possibility of having another name in dragon tongue as her first goal is taking the power of all them Dragon Priests...
FreeSpirit Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Hope you have a good playtrue. My own necromancer was planned in detail and had to put lots of restraints so i wouldn't be overpowered. I don't have any armor, plus almost no health and playing on master. But with a horde of 10+ vampires who raise their own minions i really don't have to worry about much. Aetherial Crown is such a wonderfull tool. sadly only last for around 4 min with necromage perk, and have to reequip and cast again to raise all minions.
TheOzoneHole Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 The Lich form both is and isn't overpowered, you are limited to a spell like Vampiric Grip in your right hand, but you can choose one of six or seven different preset spells in your left. The left hand spells are somewhat overpowered, but they are all base game spells as far as I'm aware. High level destruction spells mostly. The author has added "poison" spells to the game, so that continues the poison theme. Edit: Forgot to mention that with the Undeath mod, they don't let you be a vampire lord and Lich at the same time. In the transformation code it removes your status as either werewolf or vampire. I believe that this is done to avoid confusing the game as to what it is you are turning into.
Guest Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 I've always been a huge fan of Elder Scrolls take on necromancy, not least because of the RP, being able to turn a former foe into a mindless slave feels so deliciously wicked. I find it pretty easy to fit into any combat style too, mainly because of it's pre-battle preparation style. A personal favourite of mine was a lumbering heavy armored absorption sorcerer necro. Mixed with vampirism it's basically a Death Knight, very OP at anything less than Master difficulty though. I'm currently using Mason's Arcane Archer/Nightstalker build; maxed enchantment and big investment in destruction for elemental powered bows and augmented cloaks, all the decent stuff from Archery, and conjuration perks for efficient soul trapping and dark/ twin souls. It's all attack, attack, attack, a remorseless necro terminator crackling with elemental power. A great example of how flexible necromancy really is in TES games.
Myst42 Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 Rant Incoming!! Why the hell does EVERY SINGLE MOD HAVE TO BE FOR UPPER LEVEL CHARACTERS?????!!! I mean, every cool armor or mod NEEDS your character to have ALL THEM FREAKING CRAFTING ABILITIES TO 100 I only played recently and I am playing almost "simultaneously" a story for more than one character and I'M FOCUSING ON BATTLE SKILLS... well speechraft and lockpicking just level up naturally, but I place points in things like destruction, restoration, one handed, block, conjuration... Enchanting, and FREAKING SMITHING are secondary to me. One day I might spend dedication to it, bur for the time being I only level up those when I need to learn a new enchantment of craft something meaningless. I don't care for heavy armor, but it turns out one NEEDS to have "smithing to a 100" to craft "daedric and dragonbone" If you dont, then you can suck a big black cock and choke on it cause you're not getting any of the goodies. I remember the old days when one wasnt skilled at crafting, you could still pay giant amounts of gold to buy a thing that's already made by someone else. But now with mods EVERYONE just assumes you have smithing and enchanting to a 100 I played for several hours to finally get the joy of seeing how my conjuration finally reached 100 so I could have the goddamn twin souls perk... it was really a long journey and now it seems it's not over and I need to level up those other two as well. After hours of playing you just get a "fuck you" sign... I could still cheat but that's not the point is it? besides cheating raises your level too I just got angry by knowing you need "a 100" skill to enchanting if you want to use the one freaking tool that allows you to get the fucking ingredients to become a Lich in "Undeath" mod And by the way that mod seriously needs a walkthough I was so happy... "mommy I'm finally gonna be a Lich" But the mod just showed me one big middle finger to my face as I now need to level up enchanting to 100 I got so mad I had to massacre an entire town, raise them from the dead and then kill them again... Gosh that's fucking annoying... Well as I figure out how to get further down the path of being a Lich... I thought of finally presenting my character after all this effort As description, her favorite spells are undead summons, raising dead, ice storm obliterating everything in the way, a poison spell, Miraak's tentacle slime staff, shouts for tearing souls, bending wills and freezing people off, a poisoned dagger, occasional healing and a dragon priest mask. Here's a picture with her loyal servants and without her mask. Sorry the lack of poses, ENBs or stuff... I'm only getting used to the playing, screenshooting comes later Just wanted to make her look like a cool necromantic ancient dragon priestess...
gvman3670 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Wow, Undeath certainly WAS a chore. It seemingly took forever to become a lich, even with a high level character. SOOOooo much to do along the way.
Myst42 Posted January 18, 2014 Author Posted January 18, 2014 It never ends... Thankfully I have my mind so I was able to navigate the Apocrypha labyrinth and brain-map the locations and portals... good thing my orientation sense is unique or I would have been wandering that maze for hours... Also when defeating the necromancer in that barrow thing, I saw the door and needed to place the heart of a priest of Arkay to open the door, but it never opened... I had to "tcl" my way through it Then all the switches in Apocrypha were invisible so I had to guess where they were And when I got the list of ingredients for the Lich ceremony I had to look the internet to learn that the huge list of ingredients is impossible to get except by using that necromantic altar that requires 100 skill to use... It REALLY needs walkthrough... It's challenging as fuck without it...
gvman3670 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 I watched a series of walkthrough videos for Undeath when I played it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujuTkdDQGRo
Myst42 Posted January 19, 2014 Author Posted January 19, 2014 I was watching the same one! But on the hours of walking in circles I had trouble finding the parts that were of my interest... like when does the metal door open in the necromancer's lair so you can get the book from Apocrypha... Now I just feel like I want to cry I finally did it Even the ritual with the million ingredient collecting, had to cheat my way through it because of the unpleasant 100 skill requirement Turns out every time you change to Lich form, your vampirism is cured I only wanted it to overwrite the vampire lord transformation... but curing your vampirism completely... for my game it means to loose speed, strength, glowing eyes, spells. jump height, frost resistance and a whole lot of undead awesomeness... now it's just human... I can ask Serana again and it works, you have vampire powers plus lich... use the lich power and you're human again If only... I hope one day the author continues the good work... fixes issues and makes it vampire-friendly... Sorry for whining... I don't mod Skyrim Oblivion I get Skyrim is just gibberish to me for now EDIT: and I was just whining... it does give you a couple undead effects... miss my glowing eyes and strengths though... But It comes with some extra things I think I'm in love... Mass Reanimation Spell
