[Question to Obody users] What should I know about switching to Obody?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

3BA/sexlab user here excited about obody.

To people using obody, what should I know about it before making the switch?

- For example I read somewhere that not all outfits work well with obody. Is it related to how some outfits for example are older and don't use smp or newer tech?

- Another thought: how is obody impacting sexlab scaling and animations?

I'm not a modder but I'm interested in the technicalities of obody if anybody can share, to understand better the limitations and whether I should decide to make the switch.

Thanks in advance for your tips/feedback on obody

The one thing I learned the hard way: Build everything in Bodyslide with zeroed sliders.

(and tick "build morphs" of course, but that should be common knowledge)

Thanks, I read something like that in the readme. zeroed sliders = everything set to 0?

Do you have a brief explanation of what it means? Just curious.

As for Build morphs, are we talking about this unticked box? What does it do btw?

Why?

Can't have your own custom shape with it?

Yes. It's a preset called Zeroed sliders, CBBE, 3BA, probably BHUNP or any other body mod you're using should come with one. OBody assumes all the sliders will be at 0 to apply its changes, so if you don't start with a zeroed slider body the presets OBody applies won't look as intended.

Yes. That's a Racemenu feature allowing to morph (change shape basically) of outfits and bodies while you play, not only via the edits you can apply in Bodyslide.

If an outfit has bodyslide support you're fine. If it uses older sliders it won't be a perfect fit or you'll have less sliders to customize. That's regardless of OBody usage.

For all intends and purposes the preset you applied via OBody is just your body preset. If you're using a preset with exaggerated body proportions and some parts clip in an animation, it will clip in an animation.

Thank you, that's extremely helpful.

Downloading a master list for covering clothing mods is strongly recommended.  Otherwise writing your own list to exclude every cloak or top that refits and gives you the pushup effect when you don't need it is really annoying.   Still have to do it for new mods tho.

OBody Next Generation ORefit JSON Master List at Skyrim Special Edition Nexus - Mods and Community

Thanks! So if I understand correctly you need to conplement the existing list in the form of a json with whatever topless armor you have to avoid push up i.e. edit a json file to add every outfit not listed?

Does this apply to big mods like devious devices that i dont see on the nexus page?

Edit: somebody posted about the issue here. Looks like a real pain in the ass

Finally, in general, anything to bear in mind when dealing with custom races? Do you need to use a preset or zeroed sliders too?

Let's say you have a giant/troll race for example, or one with a tail. What's the deal here if you use obody?

Edit 2: also just read about randomize nipples causing issues in earlier versions such as inverted niplles. Is it still true?

https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/udgb6u/disable_orefit_in_obody_skyrim_se/

Edit 3: how does it work once you finished setting up? Do you need to target each npc, go through the list, etc.? Or can you also randomize npcs around you instantly? I'm talking about an existing save. But also interested about a new game: i kinda like the idea of body shapes being different for every game.

If you read down, I replied to that post, and while we're not entirely sure why, the Master List correctly stops the DDs from refitting.   It Just Works.  If the outfit is NOT blacklisted specifically, the outfit will simply ORefit when equipped.   70% of the time (this number is made up and mostly by feel) it's fine.   90% of the time with a good master list (this number is also made up).

I usually turn the nipple stuff off.  Inversion does happen for some gear (not all!) and is just generally not preferable to sometimes outward shaped shirts and armor parts.   I.e. you get more issues with the nipple refit on than off, and it is its own toggle.

When you load your game with oBody NG running, it will automatically distribute bodies to all relevant targets.   The settings can be controlled by a different external file (and there are examples of them for download on nexus as well) and each NPC is randomized.  oBody can also (when you target someone with your crosshairs) hit a hotkey and on the fly change them to a different body type.  If you are not targeting anything else it will be able to on the fly change YOUR body type.  The only real annoyance I've found with this is it will sometimes exaggerate some body markings and body parts on switch and I've had to make slider adjustments in racemenu after switching body types.

As for unique non standard bodies, I have no idea how they interact with oBody.  It works fine with say, the Ohms-Raht race.

Thanks, super helpful.

Also beginner question: when it comes to building everything in bodyslide studio, I already have countless groups from other mods and quite frankly I never understood the logic.

I always used CBBE/3BA and I have tons of groups, some look like close duplicates + the infamous unassigned.
I never understood what they do because to me since I only use one body type (CBBE) and subset, I don't understand the beauty of having all of these.

Anyway, the Obody install guide says select some of them (BHUNP groups, makes sense in that case)

Quote

Step 2) - Time to boot up Bodyslide. First, you'll want to go the Group Filter and choose the groups of your body and outfits. Note that many outfits might be under the Unassigned group which is usually the very last one on the dropdown list, so you want to select that one too!

You can see this in the image below. In my case, I use BHUNP, but the process is similar to other bodies. For CBBE 3BA, you'll have its respective labels and groups.

Then

Quote

Step 5) After clicking on Batch Build, you'll see a list of all bodies and outfits that are going to be built. You want to go through this list - if you see that an outfit is missing from the list, you forgot to include a group in the Group Filter in Step 3. Go back to the Group Filter and find out which group you forgot to tick!

I don't get it. We filtered out groups precisely not to have everything?

Thanks in advance if you have a quick explanation. I don't care so much about the details - not a modder myself - I just want to make sure I install things properly =)

Groups/filters are just an option to reduce what's shown in the Outfit/Body field. It's mostly used to only build sets from a particular mod.

If you want to ensure you're building everything with a zeroed preset you shouldn't use groups or filters at all. Press Batch build and select everything, if you have duplicates Bodyslide will present you a list and you'll be able to pick which version of the outfit or body part you want to build.

thanks. yes that's how I used BS until now.
The issue is, I have a lot of conflicts from older mods that get brought up this way every time.
Is there a way to set the choice forever (whenever a conflict happens)?

BS should remember which option you picked last time so the set you were using should be already selected next time you get the list to pick. But if the issue is older mods, I'd look into removing things you're no longer using so only the mods you currently use are in there.

is there a particular setup for nipple piercing with obody?

They keep floating no matter the body right now.

I'm using aroused nips but I don't think this is the issue.

I'm using CBBE 3BA.
