MrComplex Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Hi there Can anyone tell me why this outfit mesh file is causing my game to CTD everytime I put the outfit on in game The mesh file is attached Thanks in advance Main_0.nif
myuhinny Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 What does the outfit have TBBP BPP HDT? Any number of those can cause CTD if you don't have it installed.
MrComplex Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 So i did some experimenting The original armor that the nif file in question came from works perfectly and runs in game Origional mod http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/15529/? as soon as i try to edit the mesh ie remove a part in nifskope it causes CTD i tried removing a part from the nif file of the original mod and DID NOT change any file paths or move any of the nif files around if this was a TBBP BPP HDT problem i would have expected the origional armor not to work the confusing part is that editing it causes it to CTD for me but not for Vioxsis Any Ideas??
MrComplex Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 To be clear these files in the file path {Meshes\R18pn\Inner Wear\B} DONT WORK for me but DOES work for vioxsis ZensinB_0.nif ZensinB_1.nif
MrComplex Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 And these unedited files in the same file path {Meshes\R18pn\Inner Wear\B} DO WORK ZensinB_0.nif ZensinB_1.nif
Vioxsis Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Try these http://www.mediafire.com/download/tgkkvch703fpy5d/Main%20Test%20V1.7z
MrComplex Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Try these http://www.mediafire.com/download/tgkkvch703fpy5d/Main%20Test%20V1.7z sadly it still crashes with the mediafire files
myuhinny Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I got no CTD from the first file it's not showing up in game but I might have the wrong slot selected to get it to show up I just threw it into my own chest I have made for throwing items into.
MrComplex Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 what skeletons are you all using? could that be the problem
myuhinny Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 A lot of times if I'm modifying a mesh if it is not connected to other parts I just right click it go to block and select remove branch then save as. If it is connected to other things I modify the .dds file using gimp/paint-net with .dds plug in just throw the .dds texture into gimp lasso what you want to remove connect the first dot with the last one by clicking the first dot then edit then cut then go to file and select overwrite .dds that will make it change in nifskope if nothing happens in nifskope then you have to right click it go to node click add property then click on the NiAlphaProperty and then what you did to the outfit should change in nifskope. Might also be a body conflict I know there are some bodies out there that will cause a CTD.
Vioxsis Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Are you using the esp from "Inner Wear Set"? And just replacing one of the meshes with yours? Also try these http://www.mediafire.com/download/yv168758oq47uyw/Main%20Test%20V2.7z
gerra6 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 The rigging was looking a bit weird, so I re-rigged the meshes using my Mesh Rigger tool. Let me know if that fixes your problem. output.7z
MrComplex Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 The rigging was looking a bit weird, so I re-rigged the meshes using my Mesh Rigger tool. Let me know if that fixes your problem. output.7z Unfortunately that didnt work however i did some experimenting and the outfit i modified works perfectly with my companion but not with my ningheim character http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/35474/? i guess something about this custom race is messing things up edit i tried switching to nord race in game still CTDs
gerra6 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 It's probably the skeleton. Make sure that you are using an skeleton that has a bone for every bone in this nif.
MrComplex Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 It's probably the skeleton. Make sure that you are using an skeleton that has a bone for every bone in this nif. If it was a skeleton problem then surely the original unedited version of the nif file would also cause a CTD could i be wrong?
gerra6 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Hard to say. But if the mesh works for others but crashes on your install, then your best bet is to start isolating things one by one. Differences in skeletons can be a very common cause of crashes, particularly if you try to use a mesh with a bone that doesn't exist in the skeleton. The original meshes were pretty messy, with lots of orphan blocks, the geometry block at the end of the nif, and a few other things that are generally considered to be potential sources of buggy and unpredictable behavior. But they worked for you. The updated meshes *look* cleaner and should perform better in-game, but crash. But, this could be a case where the messiness of the unedited nif masked a skeleton problem, or something else...essentially one bug might have covered up a second bug, or even cancelled it out. Remove one bug, and the second one suddenly becomes a problem. I know my way around a nif file, but once the nif ends up in a modded game, all bets are off. You may also want to load the mesh in nifskope and run the 'update all tangent spaces' spell.

MrComplex Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 OK so ive still havnt sorted that just yet but its on hold i started a new project and guess what ive hit a snag can anyone tell me why this mesh crashes hopefully this mesh doesn't cause so mush trouble Main_0.nif
Vioxsis Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 ^ works in my game.... Are you using them as the first person model as well as 3rd? Because the vanilla first person skeleton doesn't have skirt bones. That could be the problem with both your meshes.

Not really sure to be honest. what skeleton mod do u recommend i use that has compatible first and third person skeletons?
Vioxsis Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I don't have a custom 1stperson skeleton, and use a variation of XPMS. There is nothing in that nif that requires anything more then a vanilla 3rdperson skeleton. And i only remember one 1stperson skeleton that added bones for BBP so won't help with skirt bones. You will have to point to a 1stperson nif in the CK.

That worked both of the meshes now work good thinking Vioxsis and thanks for the help thanks to everyone else for helping me eliminate some of the other possibilities and for testing my meshes
