Missing Racemenu CBBE Morphs

Recommended Posts

Posted

So I have the classic missing morphs in Racemenu.  I know that the missing morphs are caused by my Racemenu and CBBE 3BA versions being mismatched. I had reinstalled/updated them to fix another mod.  I have Racemenu version 4.19.14 installed, and need to know which version of CBBE 3BA matches with it.  Can someone please help me out?

Also, if you know a way to determine which version of 3BA matches with racemenu, please let me know.  I would love to know myself.

This must be some ancient thing because as far as I know the RaceMenuBase interface with which sliders are added hasn't changed at least since 1.5.97.0 and 0-4-16.

Any and all.

  1. Make sure nothing is overriding RaceMenu's scripts.
  2. Make sure nothing is overriding 3BA's scripts.
  3. Make sure nothing is overriding 3BA's RaceMenuMorphsCBBE.esp.
  4. Check your Papyrus log.

How do you know this? Neither mod is required for the other. This info is on the relevant pages on Nexus.

Assuming you don't have the GOG version then the SkyrimSE.exe you have should be 1.6.640 with SKSE 2.2.3 or greater. This info is on the RM page on Nexus.

Your first step is to get SkyrimSE.exe, SKSE and RM versions sorted then install CBBE, CBBE 3BA etc.

For me, that usually boils down to a misstep or glitch when I'm building the player body file in Bodyslide. (improper preset for body type, forgot to check the checkboxes) or I try to edit an NPC whose body doesn't have tri files necessary to edit. (ie the CBBE tab is missing or sliders fail to work in Racemenu for the character)

Have you tried rebuilding the player body?

Posted (edited)

Also, obviously, you have to be using a CBBE-family body to get the CBBE tab. (ie if you were to install UUNP, AND its companion Racemenu plugin, you'd see a UUNP tab populated similarly to the CBBE tab, or the original BHUNP for that matter)

^^ adding this only in case you're using one of the "variant" bodies, which may not have any CBBE tab modifiers, and by variant I mean both the overt ones like BHUNP , UUNP. or UBE,  AND the subtle ones like Vera's body or the UBE/BHUNP/3BA mishmash body or V-Cut or whatever

I believe this (check u/Professional-View comment) is where I found that the wrong version made the RM morphs disappear.

I've had this problem before and researched it, it just wasn't this persistent. Having the right version of Racemenu with 3BA was the fix.  Seems like every topic I can find on this is too old and archived, deleted, etc, so I can't find where I found this before. Nothing is overwriting the racemenu scripts except 3BA, which has its own racemenumorphscbbe, esp. I've reinstalled multiple versions of 3BA trying to get it to work, going as far backs as like 2.15.  What am I looking for in papyrus?

Found the post where it said the fix was the matching versions

Yes.  I've rebuilt the meshes and morphs multiple times.  I have no problem with bodies, and am aware some characters are missing morphs.  Seems to be a widespread issue in the Dragonborn DLC.

I can change in to a woman myself and see the morphs sliders in RM, but when i try to use proteus to edit an NPC, the tab is still there, but the morphs themselves are missing.

This basically what I said. So did you make sure your RM version is the correct version for your SkyrimSE.exe version? What is your SkyrimSE.exe version and what are your RM and SKSE versions?

No it was not. Try uninstalling CBBE 3BA so that the regular CBBE RaceMenuMorphsCBBE.esp is used. Is that esp (either version) present and active in your plug-in list?

... Skyrim wouldn't start if I had the wrong SKSE version installed due to one of the 700 esps I have installed.  I already stated what version of Racemenu I had, so I asked which version of 3BA matches it most closely BECAUSE I know all that. I KNOW RM 4.19.14 is supposed to match with SKSE 2.2.3 and Skyrim Version 1.6.640.  It's all matched.  That's not the issue.  I can try getting rid of the esp in 3BA, but that doesn't fix the issue.  I'm not using old CBBE body.  I'm using the 3BA one.  There's more morphs.

I also stated that I can go in to RM, change myself in to a woman, and the morphs will appear, and work.  It stopped working on NPCs with proteus when I updated 3BA.

3BA is not supposed to overwrite RaceMenu scripts. 3BA overwrites some of CBBE's scripts.

Yes, but RaceMenu does not have this esp, so it can't be overwriting it. 3BA's plugin should be overwriting CBBE's plugin.

Any error coming from one of the RaceMenu, CBBE or 3BA scripts.

This is talking about having the correct version of RM for the current game version. This has nothing to do with the version of 3BA you're using.

I mean to say 3BA is overwritting CBBEs plugin.  I dont have any errors in my papyrus log about RM.

Yes that post is talking about something else, But it previously fixed this issue.

I'm starting to think the issue is Proteus and how it opens a condensed version of RM for NPCs.  Like I said,  the morphs show up when I open racemenu through console and on a new game on my PC.

Yes you did but that does not mean that you know anything and it does not mean that you therefore have the correct SKSE and SkyrimSE.exe.

No. You asked about the 3BA version because you are certain that it is relevant despite being told by myself and traison that it is not. And looking at it from the opposite direction, neither RM or CBBE 3BA say it is.

RM 4.19.14 was uploaded 28th Oct 2022

RM 0.4.16 (my version) Oct 2020

3BA 2.47 (the version I use) uploaded 15th Feb 2023

3BA latest version uploaded 28th Feb 2025

I just downloaded the latest version though I've not yet installed it. I don't doubt for one minute that it will work with my version of RM.

I did not suggest trying "to get rid of the esp in 3BA".  I suggested uninstalling 3BA (which would remove the esp). The regular CBBE body is a requirement for the CBBE 3BA body so are you saying you do not have it installed?

Yes you did but I missed it as it was in a reply to somebody else. So now you have belatedly introduced another mod into the equation (Proteus).

The issue is the 3BA version and Proteus.  I assumed it was RM and 3BA because this fixed the issue previously as I stated. Proteus was always a factor. I just didn't think about it being the reason initially.

What changed is that I updated 3BA.  Which is WHY I asked and was/am certain about the versioning issue. Because I absolutely had the working morphs in Proteus up until I updated 3BA recently. The morphs still work, just not in the Proteus version of RM. So yes. It is a version issue like I stated.  But the problem lies within Proteus, not 3BA or RM.

You're just assuming I'm ignorant, haven't done diagnostics/research , and talking in a condescending tone, while asking questions I already answered in the first post.

I can't speak for @traison but i am not a mind reader so Proteus was not a factor to me.

If you had said that at the outset then it would have us all a lot of time but no, you could not accept that you were wrong about the versions.

So yes. It is a version issue like I stated.

Did you perchance update on an existing save or a new game? If the former then did you roll back to a previous save and try the upgrade on a new game?

Ignorant just means not knowing. You "knew" it was a version problem.

Just for laughs I updated CBBE 3BA to the latest version on my current game.

Worked without a problem - sliders slid and things went larger and smaller.

You have poor reading comprehension.  I was half right.  Proteus is the issue.

You wanna know how I found out? @Traison actually answered my questions, instead of this condescending nonsense you typed. The majority of what you said was actually useless to me, because I've already done all of that.  If you had read and comprehended what I'd said,  You'd know what version of SKSE I had when I stated my RM version. If you had read and comprehended what i'd said,  You'd see that I said the morphs work fine on my PC, but not in the Proteus version of RM.  That's why I asked the questions I did.  To narrow down the issues and get a different perspective, which surprise surprise, got me the answer I needed.

Yeah Proteus is sketchy, at least in 1.6.1170.

In case you still want the NPC-edit interface... The Manipulator  The Manipulator for SE has a hotkey link to the NPC-Racemenu variant (no sculpt, no preset, etc) , fwiw

I have excellent reading comprehension.

Let us review.

In your first post you state

On 5/2/2025 at 8:22 AM, Cannaisseur said:

I know that the missing morphs are caused by my Racemenu and CBBE 3BA versions being mismatched.

[emphasis is yours]

You give your RM version but do not mention either the SKSE or SkyrimSE version. Nor do you give any sign that you know that these are relevant.

Both traison and myself disagree with you about 3BA version being relevant.

Your second post contains a link to a reddit post saying what I had said.

This second post also contained this incorrect statement:

19 hours ago, Cannaisseur said:

Having the right version of Racemenu with 3BA was the fix.

Your third post introduces Proteus.

In my next post I suggest removing 3BA and just using regular CBBE to see if that has any effect.

Your fourth post you prattle on about SKSE and esps and only now confirm that your RM, SKSE and SkyrimSE versions are correct. You then add:

17 hours ago, Cannaisseur said:

I'm not using old CBBE body.  I'm using the 3BA one.  There's more morphs.

This shows that you have missed the point of what I was suggesting with taking 3BA out of the mix. (Reading comprehension, anyone).

Traison's next post corrects you on several points but in your reply you still can't admit you may be mistaken:

17 hours ago, Cannaisseur said:

But it previously fixed this issue.

[emphasis yours]

Also this:

17 hours ago, Cannaisseur said:

I'm starting to think the issue is Proteus and how it opens a condensed version of RM for NPCs.  Like I said,  the morphs show up when I open racemenu through console and on a new game on my PC.

The penny is starting to drop. Ask yourself how the problem is because of versions if the same versions work on a new game but not on a saved game.

But still you cannot let go of the version thing.

15 hours ago, Cannaisseur said:

The issue is the 3BA version and Proteus.

How about the issue is that updating a mod mid-game has upset something Proteus has baked into the save? This would explain why things work correctly on a new game but not on a saved game. And just for shits and giggles, when you upgraded 3BA did you put the new version at the same position in the load order as the old version? You could try running ReSaver on your save to see if there is anything in which can be cleaned but I wouldn't get my hopes too high. Otherwise rolling back to a save from before you updated 3BA would probably be your best bet.

13 hours ago, Cannaisseur said:

Show me where traison answered your questions in a way that pointed you at Proteus. Neither CBBE or 3BA are requirements for Proteus so how would versions be an issue?

You got two perspectives telling you that you were wrong about versions but you would not let go of versions. You got the answer you needed but not the answer you wanted. You still think it is versions.

The Manipulator was what I was using in the screenshot I posted. 🧐 It's been one of my all-time favourite mods since ffabris released it in 2016 or so.

There is an SE version.

And yeah, it's been a goto for me since I found it, maybe late 2019 or so. I'm still surprised at how undersung it is.

You just responded.

I've been editing esps, reading a book - Ancient Near East History, keeping up with the political news and taken delivery of a new motherboard and SSD among other things.

You still haven't actually pointed to where this someone else answered the questions.  I can point to where I gave the same answer as the guy on Nexus.

I gave it a week to see if you answered on Nexus. From what you wrote there it appears you decided to go for a new game without trying a rollback.

You can 'lmao' all you want but the problem was not and is still not caused by version mismatches.
