I did not know about the Super Nintendo restrictions.

And as for Polished Crystal, it seems unlikely. The mods adds many new trainer sprites to the game that would increase workload.

For example, what the heck are Katy and Maylene doing there? They weren't even thought of when Crystal was made.

I was thinking more of adding this to hacks where trainer sprites aren't really changed, like Crystal Legacy.

 

As for Giovanni, I have learned from my research that to trigger the event, you need:

  • Access to Cut.
  • Access to the shrine in the Ilex Forest.
  • Archer defeated in Goldenrod.
  • A specific event Celebi in the first slot of your party.
  • Pokemon from levels 40-46. (so you can stand a chance fighting him)

The only real problem here is the Celebi.

I'll have to try and see if I can just PKHEX the Celebi into my party and then fight him. PKHEX does have a way you can just import event Pokemon in.

If I can do that, then I can just start supplying the Celebi pkhex Pokemon file in with the patches so that people can fight him.

Huh. I could've sworn that you just needed the GS Ball and go into the forest to catch Celebi, which would then trigger the Giovanni events later.
But after some research, this really does only work through using DNS Servers, Action Replay Codes or the use of PKHEX.
Is there a way to make an NPC in the game simply give you the Event Celebi? It would probably harder to implement, but ultimately worth it, since all the unlockable extra content from the base game could be play right from the ROM itself. Maybe, we could find a Programmer that would lend a hand in implementing such a feature.

While we are on the topic of things:
It's possible to create custom borders for Gen 1 and Gen 2 Pokemon games through the use of these tools:

Super Gameboy Settings Editor

Super Gameboy 2 Border Injector

These tools should allow for customization of the borders generated when playing these games on an SNES via the Super Gameboy Adapter, including palette editing.
I've seen people create cool custom borders this way, like this example here.

Oh that is so frickin cool.

Sadly, none of the Pokémon borders have people in them, just the Pokémon themselves.

But I still have an idea.

I can honestly probably see Pokemon Silver's Japanese/Beta Border replaced with the human overworld sprites instead of the Pokémon sprites.

The GSC overworld sheet on Spriter's Resource has 72 npcs, including Kris, who isn't included on the battle sprite sheet for some reason.

(Technically 70 if you don't count the two completely unused npcs towards the bottom, those being the trading lady from gen 1 and an early version of Ethan.)

There are 74 Pokemon on the border, so we can just about make it work!!!

We can just have the two top corners (or all four corners if we don't include the unused ones) be a Pokémon. I'm thinking Ho-Oh for the Gold Version and Lugia for the Silver Version, just so you know which game you're playing.

Of course we will need to change the word Silver to Gold. I'll take it from Pokémon Gold's Japanese/Beta title.

The tool you shared says: "Images can use up to 45 colors in three 15 color palettes. Each 8 x 8 pixel tile can only use one of the three palettes. The three palettes are generated automatically, but can also be provided externally."

The spriter's resource sheet only has 26 colors total, so there's no problem there.

 

Plus... doing this can be like a little in-game progress document. Once we've added a character fully, we can add their sprite to the Super Gameboy background. Then, they can be arranged in the order in which they were completed.

Someone PLEASE remind me of this when we start GSC.

I like your enthusiasm about this lol.

The idea of adding NPC sprites isn't a bad one. But don't forget: The Super Gameboy 2 can support up to 18 (!) borders total, plus custom borders (the device allows for a simple self-made boarder; you can actually do that in-game). What you describe would fill one border and it's a good idea, imo.
I'm not sure what the scope of filling all potential borders is. One thing that came to mind is to create custom borders based on Pokemon type (eg. using nude Fire Pokemon Trainers' battle and overworld sprites, Fire Pokemon, maybe a fiery background image like an exploding volcano (I think adding pictures as overlays, then further customizing the borders is possible, but I'm not sure), things like this).
But this might be low priority, considering how much work would need to get done to come up with something decent to fill all borders with something good.
Another idea might be to have the nude Lyra and Ethan standing sprites from the opening cutscene converted to fit to the left and right of the borders.
If you look at the example I linked to in my previous post, you can see that Ash Ketchum was also added into the border and it looks pretty good, I'd say. I'm confident that this is possible with the Gen 2 protagonists as well. But I'm not a Programmer/ROM Hacker, so I'm not sure how feasible it would be. But apparently, it's definitely possible.

I can try reminding you off this again, if you say so.
For now, I'm just glad seeing that my idea appeals to you and might make it into the mod. 😄

Edit: I forgot to mention this. But by pressing the L and R buttons simultaneously on your controller, you can open the menu, from which you can select which border you would like to use.
What you saw on that website with all these different borders are the official ones. Certain Gameboy games had support for special borders only these games had. Aside from these, you had the choice of several standard borders. The Pokemon games also had official specialized borders made.

Quick corrections: It's Kris and Ethan, since Lyra was invented for HGSS specifically. Kris is the Crystal girl. Also, my idea would fill two borders, since one would be for gold and the other for silver. I'd just change the background color and make the gold one say "Pokemon Gold."

I like the opening cutscene border idea too. It is a little weird having Lyra be there instead of Kris, though.

I tried to make one for fun! Ethan would have been there, but his sprite is too wide and was clipping into the box, so instead we get two Lyras.

Let's just say that if anyone with spriting experience wants to create custom nude-mod-exclusive borders for GSC at any time, they're welcome to do so.

@personmcguy dm'ed me saying that he will be on a vacation for a week, so if anyone wants to edit the remaining Heart Gold and Soul Silver sprites or start on the Gold, Silver, and Crystal sprites, they should go on ahead and do that!

This is a collaborative project, after all.

Actually, the GS ball existed ONLY in Crystal version. It was never in the original Gold and Silver games, nor HeartGold and SoulSilver. In HGSS, you just get Celebi directly from the mystery gift, and then take it to the shrine to activate the Giovanni event. I actually did get that special Celebi legitimately on my original copy of HeartGold back in the day, and as I mentioned earlier, used PKhex to get it in the Rom I'm using for HairyGold.

You'll have to be a little more specific on what you want.

Here are the options I can gleam from your statement:

  1. Just the female player character to wear a bikini.
  2. All the female npcs to wear a bikini (including old women and children).
  3. Every single npc to wear a bikini, even if they are male.
  4. Every NPC to wear the swim clothes that fit them. (Some one piece, some swim shirts and shorts, some with a frilly bikini, etc.)

And what game? You've gotta specify.

Even if we get to your "Bkkini Update", it'll be a LONG time before we get there.

I want to make sure we make everyone in the 2D pokemon games naked before we do more hacks.

You can see the current plan on page 1. It's possible that we move RBY to after GSC, but the rest is pretty set in stone.

Clearly they wanted all human characters to be replaced with sentient bikinis

You're right. I totally forgot this was a thing. Sure, then it would make more sense to have Kris inside the borders instead. Unless someone would be willing to create a custom sprite to fit with the borders, I don't think it's gonna happen, since there are no official Kris sprites big enough to fill substantial parts of the borders. Unless we use nudified trainer front sprites of her, alongside others. But that would kinda miss the theme of the border.

I mean, we are still just planning ahead. Probably will take a while to get there. Makes me wonder what else to come up with for Gen 1.

Looks pretty good, imo.
As mentioned before, I forgot about Kris being the female protagonist in these games. So I agree that it is a bit weird to have Lyra in the border instead, not Kris.
I wonder how difficult it would be to create a Kris sprite based on this Lyra one...

I didn't know that. Thanks for clarifying. I was mostly playing Gen 1 and later, Gen 4 (Diamond, to be precise).

I know that the progress document with the 70 NPCs will be added no matter what.

The other 17 will just be whatever we want to add. I fear that the type-restricted trainers idea may be too much. Most trainer classes use more than one type.

We'll work it out eventually.

 

I made these because making borders is surprisingly fun!

Try to guess what game that statue is from. (These are just for fun. If she was added, the robe[??] would be removed.)

(Or maybe I'd repurpose the idea to make a ruins of alph adjacent background.)

Heart Gold & Soul Silver Nude Mod Project update 14:

 

This update adds a few various male NPCS, including: Maximo, Mr. Game, Scientist, Blackbelt, and Elder Li's overworld sprite.

Not too much was added, but it has been a while since the last update, so I wanted to keep y'all fed.

You're talking about when you open the bag right. I had the same problem while using melonDS. It works fine if you use Desmume instead though

And here we see the problem. I believe the bag models were added in update 10.

 

Can someone test how it works on original hardware?
I know some people here play these hacks on DS.

Okay, so @personmcguy and I have been working out some of the kinks.

Here's what we have found:

Shaved Silver and Shaved Silver text edited are the ones that are messed up. Both Heart Golds are fine. And this is only on melonds, not tinke.

We think that something between version 10 and version 11 of shaved silver messed up lyras model.

 

Thankfully, we found out that the model will work properly once you have healed at the Pokémon center for the first time.

I guess something about that event changes things somewhat?
So, try getting to that point and see if it is still broken.
