personmcguy Posted September 19, 2025 Posted September 19, 2025 I think one area we really need help in still is well Lyra, but also we still have quite a few OW sprites that need to be edited still 1

There's an official statement that some of these Gen 2 trainers were designed with one's adulthood in mind, especially Schoolboy and Super Nerd who got brought up as an example. The source is Japanese exclusive and unfortunately is lost in history, but here's a translated archive that Bulbapedia has provided. For male Psychic's case though, they have had pretty consistent design scheme since Gen 1 (excluding Gen 5), so I think that one's just a coincidence combined with limited color palette. 2
Guest Posted September 19, 2025 Posted September 19, 2025 Coming out of lurk mode again, the progress has so fast I haven't kept up! @personmcguy you've been crushing it! I gave Lyra's sprites a shot (only silver version, feel free to edit)

I was debating the shrinking sprites, I think they're fine as is but maybe adding a slight gap in the other arm would help the silhouette? I added it to see though I'm leaning towards unedited, but interested in what others think.
Morgil Posted September 19, 2025 Posted September 19, 2025 The first one i can definitely make out the outine of clothes in some parts. The rest look fine to me, though.

Unlike Dawn, Lyra does not have a skirt, so her silhouette is basically identical, clothed or not, with maybe the clothes making her look a little wider. 1

So I found out who that is by digging through Bulbapedia, she's the Serena who appears in Battle Hall interior when you picked boy protagonists, progressively becoming a fan of you as you reach higher scores. She used normal Battle Girl's overworld sprites, but then she got a new look in HGSS and also used for some of the Pokeathlon's opponents (albeit in different names). There's also Winston who's a male counterpart of her, but he uses Youngster's sprite in both games. In summary, she's just a Battle girl with twintail. 1

And you basically need a living Dex to complete her dialogue because it has to be a win with EVERY pokemon you can bring into the battle hall...which is extremely tedious. 1
personmcguy Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 This thread reminded me we had Lyra keeping her thigh highs. Also the sprite sheet cut off two pixels from the bottom of Lyra's intro sprite 3

The next progress document will be updated with the right height. I don't know about the thigh highs, though. I honestly prefer her without the socks. Maybe the dialogue-changed one with me in it can include Lyra with socks! I have a space towards the middle of the document that has room for alts. I'll add that in. So, the only sprite we'd need to edit further is the regular trainer card sprite. (Since the pokeathalon sprite is already without socks) My reasoning for getting rid of them is twofold. 1. Lyra and Ethan look better as a unit without socks. Lyra just feels inherently more clothed with socks on. Sure, Ethan has his bracelets and Lyra does not, but they're a lot smaller than the sock, so they don't draw your attention as much. 2. Game Freak didn't care enough to give her socks in all of her sprites. Look at this overworld sprite right here. Her legs would definitely have white pixels on them if the socks were there. None of the legs have white pixels on them, in fact. This one is just the most obvious since it shows a lot of her leg. So, it wasn't a priority for Game Freak. We'd have to add the socks in ourselves to make the sprites cohesive. Edited September 20, 2025 by Viewier
