Morgil Posted May 10, 2025 Posted May 10, 2025 Sucks to see certain sprites removed, but I guess it is what it is. Oh well
Viewier Posted May 10, 2025 Author Posted May 10, 2025 I thought of a kinda funny idea for an RSE text edit when we get to it. What if both Team Aqua and Team Magma support nudism but go about it in a different way? Team Magma wants to wake up Groudon to make the world hotter, in order to make people wear less clothes. Team Aqua wants to wake up Kyogre to make more spaces for nude beaches. 4

That one came in today. The third one is a Corsair Nightsword. I...do not remember buying it. 8 hours ago, Viewier said: I thought of a kinda funny idea for an RSE text edit when we get to it. I had a med change, but I haven't picked it up yet because I haven't gone anywhere. I'll probably do that tomorrow. I'll try to start back on this after that. Probably use the RGB Pro, because I'm still on a backup PC using a 40 inch TV I got secondhand as the monitor and a lap desk in a reclining chair that someone lost the handle for. Somehow, the problems with the Northbridge seem to have worked themselves out. Everything runs fine now. I have no idea why. Not gonna complain. I'm in the middle of a Fire Emblem ROM hack right now, so I might finish that first, but I'll be active again soon. Edited May 11, 2025 by sodacan 2
sodacan Posted May 11, 2025 Posted May 11, 2025 (edited) ...Welp, looks like some shit went down while I was out, so I guess I should address that. Here comes the wall of text. I guess I'll spoiler it, to save people's scroll wheels. On 5/9/2025 at 6:40 PM, Viewier said: CelestialArrow, the creator of the recent male nude sprites, has decided to withdraw from the project. They did not appreciate their sprites being edited without contacting them first. Please don't do that from now on. On 5/9/2025 at 6:46 PM, Mr. Downbad said: That can sound bad at a first glance, lemme rephrase: Please don't edit other people's sprites without asking for permission from now on. If you want your sprites removed, that's okay despite it being disheartening for us. -> Spoiler Completely withdrawing your work from the project for this feels kinda...petty, but I guess he has that right, if he feels that way. But half the time, it's very difficult to figure out who provided what, let alone contacting the person who submitted them. There have been a couple people who made a drive-by contribution to this project and were never seen again. Hell, at some point, telling the difference between them will be very difficult and confusing. Don't know why this has to be a thing. From what I was told from the start, it was supposed to be understood that this was a casual collaborative and iterative project. That's exactly what I was told before I even touched anything. As such: Spoiler To be blunt, this begs the question of whether the project is going to be held back by hurt pride, or significantly delayed and complicated by...effectively, bureaucracy. Not to mention the potential for people to leave the project due to frustration with delays, and schedule conflicts, technically. Plenty of very, very successful vtubers have quit their agencies due to this exact frustration. I know that I personally would at least have to weigh my limited motivation against this possibility, not to mention the pressure of having to ask permission with the risk of offending someone, when the benign reality is that some people simply have more experience, affinity, or time. This also introduces the risk of those people being accused of elitism or preferential treatment, especially if they are honest and objective in the best interest of the project. Essentially, we're now presented with the risk of the project dying due to conflict aversion and toxic positivity. I don't want to create drama or offend anyone. I really hate disappointing, insulting, or upsetting people. But I also don't want to create a compromised disappointment that takes twice as long, or trails off and gets abandoned. Worst case, it spirals into completely avoidable and unnecessary drama that burns the project down and damages the potential for any similar projects. Resident Evil 1.5, anyone? Is this bit dramatic? Absolutely. But this really should be addressed now as opposed to when it becomes a real problem and starts snowballing. Ignoring an oil leak eventually leads to a blown engine. On 5/9/2025 at 10:23 PM, Morgil said: Wait, what happened? Who edited their sprites? In what way were they edited? Were they edited for this project? Or did somebody steal them for something else? Does that mean the next update will remove any sprites that were already in it? Wasn't me, this time. I haven't touched any of the male sprites. Anyway... ...With this new "rule" in mind, I guess I gotta ask about this: On 5/4/2025 at 5:30 AM, Catnatic said: Happy Birthday, @Viewier! Here's another contribution: • Updated and finished Aaron's overworld spritesheet • Updated Psychic Trainer's sprite • Updated Barry's intro sprite + bagless variation • Nudified Lucas' ending sprite + bagless variation The other Lucas bike spritesheet probably doesn't need an edit for Platinude since it's meant for Diamond & Pearl, but here's a draft for one frame. My input: Spoiler I...notice something in most of these. I kinda hate saying that, but I also want to be honest. The psychic sprite looks good. The Platinum bike sprites are a bit off, I feel. As odd as this sounds, his ass is way too flat. Like, yeah, we ain't hourglasses, but cmon, give us a little credit. Straight lines in spritework also always look a bit uncanny on people; personally I'd widen the shoulders a tiny bit around halfway up the ribcage. The shoulder blades and spine are off, they shouldn't be flat and symmetrical, since he's at an angle there, which means his shoulders would have a bit more definition too. Upper arms are too thin, elbows look off. Barry's upper arms and legs look a little deformed. That should be a pretty simple adjustment. The legs on the overworld sprites look like Rayman from the front and back. The upper leg on the DP sprite is too long and thin. I don't like one-upping people or shitting on peoples' effort, so I really hope I don't come off that way. But if I can see it then others will, too. I was already planning to do the biking sprites next anyway, I was just prevented from doing that by hardware issues. So I guess I'm asking permission to do this. Edited May 11, 2025 by sodacan 7

The only sprite I touched that was already nude was the Psychic Trainer. I don't know if CelestialArrow was the one who made that edit but if so, really?! This is my fault?! Am I the one who caused CelestialArrow to resign from the project just because I dare innocuously contributed by polishing up that one sprite?! I mean I am sorry to crossed over someone's boundaries but give me a break, I just didn't know! It's just that Viewier provided a sprite sheet that she thought could use some edits and so I did exactly that. I was not aware of any rules that prohibited editing another contributor's work...because I'm pretty sure that wasn't stated anywhere. If it was, my bad, I failed to see it... however, you can't reasonably expect other people to be aware of those stated rules if it's not part of the OP. You can not reasonably expect everyone to spend their time going through every single one of the thread's pages to find those rules. But even so, that kinda goes against the casual collaborative nature of this project. And honestly, it's sort of overdramatic. Why should we be strict over whether an edit can be further edited by someone else to the point that you'd demand your edited sprites to be pulled from the project? Not to mention that this kind of project will likely get us shut down by Nintendo if they catch wind of it because they certainly won't like the idea of us lewding/sexualising their human characters. It doesn't matter if you think the context isn't explicitly sexual, that's how Nintendo sees it so we should be grateful that we're all working together on this project while we still can. Of course, it's good to respect people's wishes, but we shouldn't be limiting ourselves that slows down the completion of this community project. 1 hour ago, sodacan said: I...notice something in most of these. Mx. Downbad Posted May 11, 2025 Posted May 11, 2025 I'll make my personal stance on my work clear, if you feel you can improve my work for this project, then fell free to do so. After all, it's already happened for this project from the stary with the overworld sprites I made for Dawn. And I really don't mind, since as others said, 1 hour ago, Catnatic said: Because I know I'm not perfect with my nude edits and I rather someone with more experience than me to polish them further if they could. Here's my take though. If people want their sprites removed, we aren't good people if we deny that. It is their work, so if they no longer want to include it, then they have the right to do so. I plan on making a good chunk of male sprites over some time, although it won't be instant, I want to do something to help. 1 hour ago, Catnatic said: really?! This is my fault?! Am I the one who caused CelestialArrow to resign from the project just because I dare innocuously contributed by polishing up that one sprite?! I mean I am sorry to crossed over someone's boundaries but give me a break, I just didn't know! Truthfully, I wouldn't really say anyone is truly at fault. There are many times I go behind the scenes to clean up a few sprites with rough edges. Although I feel this shouldn't be a problem, they clearly do have a problem with things like that, so they would've removed themselves eventually. I understand a lot of people are mad, upset, etc, but in truth, I don't feel much towards this. Like, yes, it's unfortunate a good artist no longer wants us to use their work, but there's nothing we can really do except say oh well and move on. I also don't want others to feel they can't remove their work without backlash. I feel as a community, we should try to stay calm and grow as best we can. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk. 8
Viewier Posted May 11, 2025 Author Posted May 11, 2025 (edited) As the manager of this project, I want to give my view on this going forward. While this situation really sucks, it happens. As @Mr. Downbad stated, "If people want their sprites removed, we aren't good people if we deny that. It is their work, so if they no longer want to include it, then they have the right to do so." We've just got to live with this and move forward. I'm just grateful this was the controversy that happened to this thread, instead of: Nintendo discovering it. They despise ROM hacks in general (just look at Uranium), so a hack like this, which directly edits one of their games and makes the characters nude, would get shut down immediately. Someone needing to be forcibly banned from the project for harassing users or being misogynistic, homophobic, etc. Someone from my life outside of loverslab discovering this thread. I first want to say that I had no idea something like this would happen. As @Catnatic stated, this project is very collaborative. I did indeed post the sprite sheets. Any sprite sheets have always been available for edits as soon as I get them. A big part of collaboration, in my opinion, is that people can help others with their work if they wanted to, say by editing their sprites or offering feedback, helping to add polish where needed to make this project the best it can be. We're a team here, and I appreciate you all for being so kind so far. Constructive criticism is a really good thing. And plus, if I personally did not edit the sprites at least a little bit, some would be way too large for the image size and some would be using way too many colors for the limited palette, meaning they could not be added into the game in the first place. Some edits are absolutely required no matter what. There has never been any rules that prohibited editing another contributor's work, due to the collaborative nature, but I think I might be adding a small one now. We cannot just ignore this event. And don't worry, the male psychic wasn't made by CelestialArrow. That one was made by @Imaynotbehere4long. And my message for the person who made the edit to the sprites: I do not blame you at all. I want nobody to harass you. None of us knew that CelestialArrow was not okay with their sprites being edited. They certainly never told me. I forgive you instantly. It's alright. Do not blame yourself for this. It would have happened eventually. Here's my verdict. @sodacan, I noticed how you asked permission from Catnatic to make suggestions to his sprites. I do not think we need to do this. He has already joined the project and has been 100% okay with his sprites being edited in the past. Anyone who has already joined the project and has had their sprites edited before May 11th, 2025 should be fine on this rule and will not need to be asked each and every time they post sprites whether or not they are fine with them being edited. I do not want this thread to be bloated with people asking questions they basically know the answers to. It is not fun for me or for them. If anyone has a problem with this, talk to me about it. I am open to constructive criticism. As for new artists joining the project, here is what I propose: In my first post on this thread, I will edit it and add the rules below. It being on the first page means more people will see it than it was here. Please let me know if you want it reworded. There are two rules to the thread: Due to the collaborative nature of this project, joining and contributing sprites means that you consent to them being edited to add any adjustments needed. If you do not want them edited beyond my size and palette edits, please DM me and I will put a red background around your desired sprites on the shared sprite sheet so that people know not to edit them. Please note that I would prefer if you allowed the community to make sprite edits. A lot of the people here are really talented and offer great suggestions! But, if this is what you wish, let me know. Be kind and respectful to others. This may be a nude mod project, but I want people to be as respectful here as they would be in any other modding environment. Whenever a new artist joins the project, I will tell them to read the rules on the first page after they contribute their first sprite, and then we will never bother them about it again, no matter which option they pick. Does this sound fine for now? I am open to suggestions. Apologies for the length, there was just a lot I needed to get out. Edited May 11, 2025 by Viewier 8

I think it's great that you mention those aspects, although due to the nature of the forum it seems very obvious to me. I'm against CelestialArrow being upset that the sprite he edited was being edited. No sprite is perfect, and it's okay for someone else to fix or edit it, especially on a collaborative forum like this. And, if we're getting a little picky, that character wasn't even his; he didn't create it. Edited May 12, 2025 by msrio 4

Adding those two extra pixels to the belt to connect it really brought the design together and honestly made the belt look better than how it is on the original Ranger sprite. I didn't mind how the dick looked, though. That part was fine. I probably would have made a compromise between the two sprites and added the two extra pixels to the belt while keeping the original dick, if CelestialArrow did not drop out. Morgil Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 Just a FYI, I am almost to the end of the game right now. I'm currently doing some massive level grinding to prep for the elite four. I know there is a bunch of post-game content, but I'm still probably gonna take a break after beating the main game. There are other games I've been wanting to play lately, plus with the Switch 2 release only a few weeks away. Anyway, even though I'm almost done playing for now, I will still be checking back here regularly at least until the final version is released, so this won't be the last you'll see of me. 2

Now someone can finally test if the credits work correctly or not. What's your final team like? Can I see? Also, please show your trainer card so it's still on topic. Speaking of the final version, I am thinking it will be coming soon. Making all the men naked was always a far-off goal that I was fine with not reaching, due to the lack of interest in them. If they ended up all naked by the end, great! If not, I am fine with that too. First option is preferred, but not required. Now that Barry and Lucas are finished, the only guy that I think needs to be naked is Aaron, since his overworld sprites and vs face are naked already. And of course, the old ladies still need their overworld sprites. Once that happens, I can honestly probably say that Platinude will be complete, and we can move to Dick Diamond and Pussy Pearl, which I am guessing will take a month or two at most, since all we need to work on are the Diamond and Pearl exclusive sprites. (Like the different sprites for gym leaders, Barry, Lucas, and Dawn.) Edited May 13, 2025 by Viewier 2

Morgil Posted May 14, 2025 Posted May 14, 2025 Lol, yeah. The modern games have word filters on them to prevent explicit names, but I always found it a fun challenge to try and come up with something funny and lewd that wouldn't trigger the filter.
