What the heck am I overlooking???

Finally getting close to starting a new Skyrim game in earnest for the first time in several years.

 

Running version 1.6.1170, and using MO2 for my mods.  Have SKSE installed and able to launch SKSE through MO2.  Have Bodyslide, XEdit, Wrye and Pandora, etc, all running through MO2.  Have laboriously organized my mods in the left pane of MO2 to account for categories and dependencies, and have been organizing in the right pane as I go.  I've spent months downloading mods that looked interesting and making conflict resolution patches.  Been testing a bunch of new mods to see what I liked that I haven't used before, and seeing that things worked.

 

Anyway, got to armor and clothes, which were (mostly) script free.  Didn't follow my own advice and installed a boatload of armor and clothes mods all at once.  Tried to start to test and now the game crashes after the Bethesda logo.

 

Double check - no  missing mods warning top right of MO2, no warning signs in the right pane.

 

Start disabling mods in the right pane being mindful of dependencies and testing, eventually get down to official content only and still crashing after BGS logo.

 

Try to start Skyrim from the vanilla launcher without any mods, it starts right up.  Go back to SKSE and crash, even with no mods activated left or right pane.

 

Make a new profile in MO2.  All my work organizing the left pane is undone in the new profile, they're alphabetical now.  Start by adding all the mods back that have SKSE dll files, as from what I can tell there's a hiccup there before the game starts loading regular mods.  The skse log is cut off in the profile that crashes, and is different in the new profile.  Start organizing my mods again in the new profile in the same order as the first, and test every 3 mods, so far everything is still working.  It's just going to take a long time to get the left pane reorganized again.

 

Just for fun I copy the first profile to a 3rd profile.  Crash.  Take a look at my skyrim, skyrimprefs and skyrimcustom ini files, and find a couple of differences between the working profile and the two non-working.  Copy and past working inis from profile 2 to profile 3 and try profile 3 again.  Still crash.  Emptying my Overwrite folder isn't helping either.

 

The ENB ini files are in the game folder as they should be, so they'd be the same for all three profiles.

 

What else would be different from one profile to the next that would cause this?

I had weird crashes yesterday, it was caused by missing values in the FSMP's config.xml. I have no idea why the values disappeared, but it caused crashes in multiple Profiles. Your case sounds different though, but maybe check it.

You didn't mention it, but you have the correct Address Library installed, right?

Basing off of that alone, it seems like everything has been running fine until you literally started installing armors. Couldn't you just remove/disable all of the armors and see if the game runs? If so, then we can safely say it's one (or some) of the armors causing problems. If not, then you have a deeper issue that needs resolving, which is strange considering you had been able to run the game just fine until you got to the armors part.

I've double checked that several times to make sure Address Library and SKSE and everything else matches 1170.

 

I deactivated all mods except the official DLC and still that profile crashes.  Profile 2 is running strong as I slowly build back up.

 

I do know about backing up the order for left pane and right pane and actually do have current backups.  However, if that profile is somehow bugged and not working, it's probably better to run through manually and double check everything again.  Appreciate the advice though.

I don't know if it's the least bit helpful, but here is an example of an skse.log where it shuts down in mid-process.  The funny thing is, I re-enable the exact same dll mods in profile 2 and they all load up and work correctly.

The reason for that would be that crash logger is not loaded in either of your skse logs. You messed up the install of it somehow.

I get the CrashLogger.log, but no CrashLog.  I've looked in both the OneDrive and regular MyDocuments/MyGames... folders.

In that log it is present. Since its not making a crash log, I would assume the game is terminating for some other reason than an unhandled exception. Unfortunately I can't tell what's wrong with your setup without seeing it myself. A debugger would be required to potentially catch this issue. I've done lots of debugging, but I'd have to be on your computer with my tools for that. Remote control is an option: I typically use RustDesk or TeamViewer. Since the crash happens early, it shouldn't take too long when testing it. Maybe looking at a few hours of work for a clue.

You might want to move all your game shit off one drive too and stop it from being written there. Bethesda games and older titles in particular are really sensitive to read/write permissions. A network delay at a critical moment could crash it; or your anti virus not liking what its doing will end it quickly too.

My game stuff is not on One Drive, I have a separate from my operating system dedicated games SSD.  You only see One Drive on the screen shot because the Crash Logger instructions say to locate the log file there.

 

Your point is well taken though and good advice for anyone who has things set up that way.
