Bluegunk Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 How come when a spaceship explodes, or disintegrates, there are no crew ejected in their ballistically toughened space suits? Ripe for sweeping up, and taking back for bounty. Or whatever other nefarious plots players might have. Given the splatterfest from the gun battles, it can't have been Bethesda being squeamish. Ripe for some mods, methinks.
davisev5225 Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 (edited) Western morality generally considers "leaving someone to die" to be morally worse than just killing them directly. Since you're not obligated to scoop up any "survivors" after a space battle, then you'd be leaving them to die in the vacuum of space. I suspect this is why escape pods, "spontaneous enforced space walks", etc. don't exist in Starfield. Edited December 3, 2024 by davisev5225 3
TheRightDoorIsNotTheLeft Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Because Bethesda didn't think about that. 4

Gray User Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 Are there any examples in game of spacewalks that are not in a station, planet, etc? May be engine limitation. Game handles space cells different, and may not work well if you drop loose actors into space cells. You could test this - make mod that spawns some enemies when ship blows up. If this works, it works. If it crashes game, engine limitation. 1

It may be a limitation but there have been a couple of mods that allow the player to access space. One was a command console runner that (with a command) teleported you into space beside your ship. And another is newer - an operational airlock that allows the player to leave the ship into space. Both suffer from lack of collision for the ship's meshes - you can pass right through it from space. Weird. Also there's no kind of "natural" way of moving around in space like a small thruster. I can't make mods, unfortunetely. Scripting is a natural language barrier that I can't seem to get around. 🙁
Z0mBieP00Nani Posted January 28, 2025 Posted January 28, 2025 I think it has more to do with a trade off between rushing a game out and sacrificing game detail. I mean a lot of the systems in Starfield are either not well fleshed out or poorly executed. I too would have liked to have been able to explore wrecked ships via spacewalk and loot them that way, which would include seeing dead crew floating in the vacuum of space, but you can't even explore the rings of a gas giant in this game, which, for example, is something you can actually do in a game like Elite Dangerous.
