nunyabidnez Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 I've been away from the FO4 scene for a long time now, and fortunately had an older game still loaded up which has never updated to the current version that broke so many mods, from what I understand. While researching prior to planning for an install, (fortunately unneeded), I came across some discussion in other forums about NAF, Native Animation Framework? From the sounds of it, it seems to be a significant improvement over the existing animation frameworks, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in running AAF through it and how that turned out for them? I know I used to have some issues with some of the AAF animations, dropping my frame rate to slideshow levels and extended blackscreens while the animations were setting up or closing out, and from the sounds of it NAF takes care of several of those issues? Thanks in advance for any information.

No more stuttering and no more FPS drops. NAF Bridge and NAFicator are from Evi1Panda and allow mods written for AAF to be used out of the box with NAF - highly recommended. 6
kziitd Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 (edited) Just to let you know: If AAF is not trying to end itself because NAF and the latest version of AAF are both in the game Then the fps drop you mentioned is caused by an xml error in UAP and has been fixed long ago. And the pathfinding/black screen time before any animation can be changed by the options in AAF's setting.ini. In addition, this kind of question is meaningless. Those who support AAF say AAF is good, and those who support NAF say NAF is good. There are always replies to submit their personal problem reports on the threads related to AAF and NAF. This is simpler than the US presidential election that just ended. You can do it yourself right away and draw your own conclusions. Edited November 12, 2024 by kziitd 1
katrina.balanchuk Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 (edited) I am on AAF and see no need to fix whats not broken. Same reason I stayed on CBBE over fusiongirl, even though i understand FG and NAf are suppsoed to be better than what I have. But what I have works good enough for me and it was so much work to get working and I am not ready to go through that again. Edited November 12, 2024 by katrina.balanchuk 1

Been out of the scene for a good while and catching up is never a bad thing. And no, I don't have both installed, my install only runs AAF and has always, since day one, had certain animations that absolutely destroy frame rates, regardless of whether my character was in the scene or not. Thanks for the input, though, sorry if it perturbed you for some reason.

Then you can get 100% problem-free results by reading the TFM guide in the AAF section directly and carefully (no need to argue, I am). If the content of the guide is difficult for you to understand, there is also a special section in the AAF discord server responsible for questions and answers. The above also applies to NAF (Snap has his/her own discord). 1

Unless I missed a version and dogo removed the boot loop code. If not, then you might want to read this and get a better understanding of what dogo actually did to intentionally make the game unplayable. Either way, Using the Bridge now requires you to remove AAF... which is how it should be. And don't get me wrong, I like AAF (up to 171), I also enjoy NAF. Edited November 12, 2024 by izzyknows

I read it, didn't understand it, but you must be the one who knows more about how scripts/games work.😅 I also understand what you mean. I don't like this situation. There is no way for both parties to reasonably resolve the problem/dispute/disagreement. You are not authorized to replace my AAF.esm and "appropriate" the xml made for me: you let users exclude me. I don't want to be the CEO/OSA of FO4, and the admins here don't seem to care if it happens again: then I let users have to exclude you. Fair. Exactly.
ereese1980 Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 AAF is amazing but if I wanted to do Fallout 4 again I can't get AAF since it is on discord. I just don't do discord. So my stupid question is if I install F4 again from scratch will I be able to do everything with this NAF thing? I kind of get the impression you can but I'm not sure about everything being compatible. Just looking for a direct simple statement of that since I can't find anybody outright just saying you can do all the things without AAF by using NAF. Somebody may have said this (or no) but I just can't find it so far, sorry to ask what is probably a known answer to most people. I haven't done F4 for a long while and not been keeping up. It's about hard to start over as to start for the first time!

The next version of NAF will also eliminate AAF, the Bridge does it now. So, yes NAF works with any mod that requires AAF, BUT... you need the pre Next-Gen version of the game. Really easy to roll back, tools on Nexus to do it for you or manually via copy & paste. 2
Samhsay Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I like AAF. I tried playing with NAF, but decided to go back. And how did the AAF repay me? I've been trying to restore my build from ruins for three days now. I hope the guys will save the NAF from the need for a bridge, and I will move to their camp for good. Simply because monopolies are bad. 2

Simply because monopolies are bad. The Bridge's purpose is to translate AAF function calls to NAF ones because AAF was the only thing for awhile. So it's not really up to the NAF and Bridge developer(s) but to the mod authors of the mods that have a dependency on AAF.
