PsychoMachina Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Letting everyone know there is a nationwide (US) phone scam in which scammers claiming to be from the IRS is demanding payment for unpaid taxes and requesting personal information. Â I recently got one of those calls and knew right away this was bogus. Â A search of "IRS phone scam" came up with a few results. Â Â http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Warns-of-Phone-Scam http://www.bbb.org/blog/2013/11/warning-new-irs-phone-scam/ http://money.cnn.com/2013/10/31/pf/taxes/irs-phone-scam/ Â The "guy" who called had an odd, heavy accent or used something to obfuscate "his" voice. Â Doing a revers look-up of the caller's number shows it originated from California. Â Â Damn, I hate these sub-humans.
Rayblue Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 As usual, elders, immigrants new to the country, and those not trained to deal with phone scams are going to be hit.
Darkening Demise Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Those not trained? You mean; those without a brain in today's poor education system and lack of good parenting leading to a generation of dimwits who'll easily fall prey to this scam. Â Hasn't things like this been going on all the time? Keep reading all over about scamming phone calls, people impersonating law enforcement, etc. to get money and IDs from people. Nothing new that's for sure. Just like that 2 mill password hack.
...0... Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Some people just wanne be scammed as long they think they have change to get some $$$ they fall for it. From top to bottom people are scammed, high/low educated get scammed and you won't believe how easy sometimes they just blind then when they think getting alot money and they fall for it.
1258523 Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Haven't gotten a call like this but over the last month I have gotten a handful of calls from a group claiming to be asociated with Microsoft saying that my computer is having issues and that I need to give them remote access to fix it. Even though I myself do not have any formal education in computing I can generally get them talking circles conflicting what they are saying. Thought about setting up a honey pot in a DMZ just to try and brute force my way into there systemm. =)
Rayblue Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 ^ Oh, those. Surely they have a weird accent.
