nehaberlan Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Hi,  I have a mod for SE. Someone wanted to add dialogues for it. Then, she sent me a .esp file. When I opened it in the game, I couldn't find anything related to the mod. I asked her what the problem could be. She said that she had no problem in her game.  In the game, I got this message: "This save relies on content that is no longer present. Some objects may no longer be available. Continue loading?" HerBoners.esp  HerBoners.esp is the name of my mod by the way...  However, when I tried to open it in the Creation Kit SE, it couldn't load any files/infos of the mod. Because of that, I couldn't find anything about the mod. For example, there were no NPCs, no cells, nothing. I checked in the SSEEdit. Everything seemed alright. Then, I tried to open the original HerBoners.esp (my version...) in the Creation Kit SE. I had no problem. All of the items were there as they should be.  Why neither the Creation Kit SE, nor Skyrim SE can't load her HerBoners.esp's files/infos, I couldn't figure out. Maybe, her Creation Kit SE, or Skyrim SE, or SKSE are not same or compatible with mine. I don't know. I have Creation Kit 1.5.73.0, Skyrim 1.5.97.0, SKSE 0.2.0.20  If you can help me anyway, I'll appreciate... Â
traison Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 (edited) If I had to guess, it's because of the verson number in the HEDR record. I think older plugins were 1.7 and at some point 1.71 started to show up. So far I've been able to load everything by just changing that number. Â Edit: The correct answer is probably: Update your CK and game. Edited September 5, 2024 by traison

It's the best version that I have for SE that can work with SKSE SE and the Creation Kit SE. Other updated versions are better for AE. Â

It's not my update. It's someone else. I didn't prepared the dialogues. The problematic .esp is hers, not mine. I suggested her to use older version of the Creation Kit SE (1.5.73.0).  Thank you for your advice...  Edited September 5, 2024 by nehaberlan
Just Don't Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 At some point you must consider staying on an old version to be additional effort. There's lots of accumulative changes and new stuff you're purposefully avoiding just to stay in that version and other mod authors and users won't always consider that to be a factor when creating or sharing modded files. Â Â

I'm confused about updating either Skyrim SE, or Creation Kit SE, or SKSE. Because, SKSE says: Current Special Edition build 2.0.20 (game version 1.5.97). Anniversary Edition build 2.2.6 (game version 1.6.1170).  I don't have AE. The Creation Kit SE that I use is compatible with 1.5.97 Â

That means one of 3 things: You have managed to lock Steam in such a way that it is unable to update the game. (this is what I do) You have a cracked version of the game. You do not actually have SSE. Which I suppose we can assume is not true based on this thread.  See, the thing with Steam in general is that its not a platform that cares about you and what version of something you want to use. If there's an update it's going to shove it into your machine, like it or not. SSE as far as I know does not exist anymore. You may have bought it, or some earlier version, but that is irrelevant - your receipt is irrelevant. The only thing that *may* have happened here is that the AE update was free for a while for those that already owned SSE, but is now a paid-for upgrade. I don't dare find out however as that would entail bricking my own setup (or sandboxing/virtualizing it, meh, effort), I just know that Steam has my Skyrim marked as in need of an update. I'm only safe because of my software keeping Steam on a short leash, there's a brick right there waiting to trash my glass house.  Edit: I was holding out when Skyrim SE was released as well. Spent a year or more on LE. I had to pay for SE when I decided to switch, and this was a free upgrade for those that had LE (or pre-LE + all DLC). It was worth it however, as I had a fully working Skyrim when pretty much everyone else was setting the internet on fire. Edited September 6, 2024 by traison

Secondly, I've never used a crack version of Skyrim. I bought LE. Then, SE was free with it. Â I've created LE and SE versions of my mods. If I have not gotten SE, how I could create SE versions of them? Crack versions of the games always cause trouble. Everybody knows that. The game is cheap. Buying it is more logical, especially if you want to do something on it, not only playing it. Â By the way, The girl that created the dialogues used your advice. I told her about HEDR record. 1.7 and 1.71. She used that. And sent me a new .esp. It works great. Thank you for the advice.

The game just updated and AE was the name of the update + a totally optional paid DLC. To use latest SKSE, CK and mods you only need to update your game. It will still be listed as Skyrim Special Edition on Steam. Because it's not a different game. Just a more recent version with additional files. Thing is you must evaluate how much effort is to stay in that version now and for years to come instead of updating now. If you know your way around different versions and have dealt with updates in the past you'll know the type of effort that updating now implies. I don't want to imagine all the mods that won't support 1.5.97 + all the new changes requiring additional fixes and fiddling with the game just to keep running a several years old version. YMMV.

Thank you for your information and suggestion. But, I still prefer LE. I don't play games. I don't think that I would like to create AE versions of my mods. I don't plan to create mods anymore.
