Ideas for what could be causing this graphics problem

Asking for a friend on this site:  his higher end rig with Nvidia 3080Ti is crashing frequently in virtually any game played.

See pics. In them you'll see a black mass obliterating a lot of the screen.

 

It may be his card overheating. But his fairly new PC had a liquid coolant leak a couple of months back and the shop rebuilt it for him. They tested it. It worked fine for a while, then increasing random CTDs/power downs have been occurring.  Today he has this huge black patch on his screen. You can see the pixel edges, and some jumbled text.

 

I think the video card is overheating, but monitoring software seems to show it is not.  We'd be grateful for any ideas from the community to help him move to a solution. Thank you!

swap out for another gpu if possible. process of elimination is your best bet at figuring out this problem.

Don't worry! It's not me. I have a gaming pal who is having problems with his PC. It's easier if I ask because he might not be able to if the thing goes down completely.

We're in our 60s, too. We need the help!

Es funktionierte eine Zeit lang gut, dann kam es zunehmend zu zufälligen CTDs/Abschaltvorgängen. Heute hat er diesen riesigen schwarzen Fleck auf seinem Bildschirm. Sie können die Pixelränder und etwas durcheinandergebrachten Text sehen.

 

Ich vermute, dass die Grafikkarte überhitzt, aber die Überwachungssoftware scheint zu zeigen, dass dies nicht der Fall ist. Wir wären für jede Idee aus der Community dankbar, die ihm dabei helfen könnte, eine Lösung zu finden. Danke schön!

 

 

 

 

 

According to my wife (who is the nerd in our house), this looks like a serious defect in the graphics card - the 3D part has practically "burned out".

(she just did another search in our local forums for such a "defect"... the answers she found confirm her statement)

 

The only thing that helps is replacing the graphics chip - unfortunately.

Very many thanks! That pretty much confirms what we thought. He's taking it back to the dealer tomorrow - which has had a bit of a history due to them losing an order for a RAM upgrade and a coolant leak.
