Sexxxing Up Neon

Well... Neon could also use some additional "grunge".

 

The fishing level, for example, could use something that actually catches fish. And, sure, you can do a quest to help process the fish, but even that's only dealing with fish oil. It might be fun to replace the current "fall into the water to scan fish" part of the game with something like high-tech spear fishing. Or maybe the place could use a conveyor net?

 

Also, the neon kid perk could use a hole-in-the-wall. Maybe a broken dumpster on the edge of town to call home? Or a bar fight initiated by old "friends"? Something. Right now, the perk leaves a lot to the imagination - which is good - but there's plenty of genre stories of plucky kid from bad neighborhood that might be reaped for flavor.

 

Also, if someone has the technical chops, Neon could use big waves in its ocean, and occasional high winds. Maybe also landing delays because of weather? Or maybe some special effects to imply a technical measure making that unnecessary?

 

For sex ... part of that would depend on what aurora does to npcs. Does it make them aggressive? Thirsty? Does it do different things to different people? Etc. Supposedly it has some kind of synesthesia aspect, so putting something for the player where sounds make colors change might be good. And, tweaking the colors of some parts of the city to play on that would be even better. If it pushes up sex drive, then that might imply businesses which combine teasing with high pressure sales tactics. (Also, in a later revision - once someone has implemented some kind of support for arousal or hangover mechanics, tweaking dialog options based on player state to reflect a certain amount of desperation or whatever.) Maybe also various additional enhancement services which play on various social insecurities (like: if you're not consistently attracting enough people, speed dating style, you're an impoverished loser who needs help... with a variety of dubious ways to spend money - neon specific body mods, confidence boosters and/or brain mods, odd devices and/or clothing, etc. which somehow increase attractiveness). Or maybe a vegas inspired "X hour marriage contract" with some special "honeymoon room" (hourly rates on the room). Maybe Neon could use a depressing and exploitive (but difficult to escape) "game show"?

 

And then there's gambling - perhaps structured to allow people to gamble on credit with whatever penalties. This could turn into quite a variety of minigames (both gambling minigames, combat / escape minigames) and NPCs.

 

And, of course, like any project, it's probably a good idea to tackle the easy stuff first and save difficult stuff for later releases.

I love the idea of having a seedy under level to Neon. Keep the upper core/market level for the tourists, maybe clean it up a bit. Then the farther one goes down the more dark and depraved the place gets.

 

Oh and here is something I wrote up way back when, before the game came out and all we had was concept art.  Might give some inspiration.

Nice, I'm going to yoink the name "Neon Abyss" if you don't mind.

I love the concept you laid out with the lower levels having garbage rain down from above - unfortunatley Neon didn't turn out that way in game. However, the sub level I'm working on will have plenty of garbage chutes terminating there and I'm keeping it very, very dirty.

Thank you and not at all, go for it. I would term the Abyss for those lower areas that really are places no sane craterat goes if they don't want a bad end.

Hmm, I didn't really think about the pillars too much. I kind of zoned on the fact that by default they are already implied to have interiors, since that's how you get out of the water.

What I'm building would definitely be Maintenance/Red Light, a place that's grimy and a step below the Core - lower class tourists do still go down there. So I suppose maybe the Abyss should be saved for whatever goes below when somebody makes it.

 

Maybe I'll just call it the Neon Subcore.

Maybe space for a sexfight arena. Either pay to watch as a spectator, gamble on the outcome, or participate. First one to get shagged loses, There's an entrance fee which they only charge if you lose, and if you can't pay they can keep you until you can...

 

It's a bit of project in its own right, but it might be nice to have the space for it :)

"Space" is relative :)

 

Unless someone wants to add it to the main area, stuff like deathmatch and sexfight arenas, black labs, snuff studios, etc...can be made in their own game cells and accessed through a doorway, stairs, elevator, etc...

 

Maybe having a main elevator mod that other mods can hook into? It would add the mod's location to the selection presented to the player when they press the elevator button. Some selections could show up as RESTRICTED and inaccessible until a set of circumstances and/or mission is completed to access that level.

I'm including load doors that don't have places they lead yet specifically so both me and other modders can make sub mods and as long as all they do is remove the "inaccessible" flag from the load door and link in their teleport there won't be any issues, i don't think. It was one of the original design considerations for the project, because the Core is already so full.

 

And yeah, a fighting ring would be a nice addition, though I think that'll be a submod. I'm going to try and keep script/quest involvement to a minimum in the main expansion mod, just so that it has maximum compatibility. Outside of that, the goal is to make it indistinguishable from the main game, you shouldn't realize that you're entering a modded area (except for the decidedly less dumb-cheerful atmosphere).

Not really, this is not an EU thing. RDR 2 had gambling (less prostitution) and this is an NO issue, as long as you don't gamble for REAL money; but it can catapult it out of 14+ age restriction range. This is an Bethesda-Thing.

The only game that had gambling in it was New Vegas, and that's because OBSIDIAN made it, NOT BETHESDA.

also remember that NV came out 14+ years ago times have changed DRASTICLY
