dje34 Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Hi guys ! I'm new to the LL forums and I just wanted to say hello ! I'm a french guy so I can make some mistakes when trying to say something, please be comprehensive. I'm playing Skyrim from the start and I just started modding it a year ago. I'm not a modder, I just use mods (and try to make them work together which can be a real pain in the a**!!!), but I used to be a developer during my studies and I learned how to make cool textures too (did some for a 3D project) so maybe I could help some of you. Right now I'm trying to understand how things work with the bsa, esm, esp... and the CK of course! But it's really not easy to understand because imho the Bethesda developers did a really-not-user-friendly software.Well, I wanted to know where to begin with, because with all the mods and frameworks and all the people saying : 'My mod kicks ass ! Try it !' , I have to admit I'm lost... C ya
Rayblue Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 You might be able to contribute, such as translating mods into French. BTW, welcome... and could you spare me a pack of Gauloises?
dje34 Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 Thanks guys!@ Rayblue : I can do that.@ Emily : Thanks... I guess... strange lil girl... uh... do you mind if I eat it later ?

dje34 Posted October 28, 2013 Author Posted October 28, 2013 Aha! this guy are not Betsheda forum member. Fishy stick Virginity taken. LOL No, looks like I'm not, I failed your test... And actually I don't like official forums, full of sticky fishes and too many kids it seems ! My private garden is full of shadows and that's how I like it. Now, I'm leaving the forums for today with my Baguette & Saucisson.
Jayce Dimmer Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I'll just chime in on the whole "bsa, esp, esm" thing. The differences between a .esp and an .esm, is really just a flag that says "Is ESM", or doesn't. In practice, however, an .esm file acts as a "reference" file. Ideally, an .esm would (for example) contain NPC records. A .esp would then place the NPCs in a cell. A .bsa is a compressed archive that is in the same spirit of a .zip archive; it consists of files and folders which are often compressed into the .bsa. You do not have to actually compress the files in a .bsa They way a .esp/.esm and a .bsa file work, is that they are named the same except for their extensions. So when the .esp/.esm is activated, the .bsa is activated as well. When the .esp/.esm is deactivated, so is the .bsa. If you were to have a bunch of texture-replacers, for example, in a .bsa and a dummy .esp (contains no records), you would only need to activate/deactivate the .esp to load/unload the replacers. I'll show myself out now.
Lagoon0654 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 You got over 40 posts in 5 days? holy shit. If you want to learn about using the Creation kit, I suggest reading both the creation kit AND the g.e.c.k wiki sites. The two software are pretty much the same with additions for skyrim in the ck.
