killatopak Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 I was doing Onmund’s quest from the college of Winterhold where you’re supposed to get a staff for Enthir. Specifically Grand Staff of Charming however the quest marker doesn’t point to anything. I reloaded an earlier save and redid everything up to that point and the problem still persist. I tried spawning the staff via console command and it gives me a different staff. Tried searching for the staff via AddItemMenu and the staff doesn’t exist. Tried a new character and it still doesn’t exist via console command and AddItemMenu Is there a way to diagnose which mod may have changed it if a mod is the culprit?
travelmedic Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Is this the quest where you steal the staff from the room in the Inn? If so, I think the staff was on a lower shelf, not sitting on top of the counter. Are you sure it isn't there?
anjenthedog Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 (edited) fwiw, quest items are usually tied to a specific instantiation of an object, (unique object id), so a 'generic' one instantiated via additem won't do. At least, that's my experience anyway. You might need to reload to an even earlier time, and go do something else instead and come back to it later. That's solved those puzzling "quest item missing" issues in the past for me. At least for mainline quests (not so much for many bulletin board mod generated side quests) Also, make sure no other mod is overwriting assets in the area your quest item is going to be found And lastly, if you have a dead-body cleanup utility (like Dead NPC Body Remover) installed, it may be interfering by removing assets prematurely. So, if you use one, make sure to check any associated settings and set them so they don't perform dead-body cleanup housekeeping in an active quest area until after its stage has been reached the one I use, Dead Body Remover, has settings for that. Fortunately, there’s an alternative way to proceed the quest which is to use persuasion which requires me to level speech. How much, I dunno. However, it does make me concerned if future quests that have no alternatives will bug out as well so I’m trying to fix the problem early. I tried installing SSE Edit or xEdit. I know absolutely nothing about the program but managed enough to finagle it to show me the item and which mods are referencing them. So far it’s cutting room floor, Beyond Skyrim Bruma, Interesting NPCs and Odin magic overhaul. I’ll try disabling them and checking if it works out. About mods overwriting assets, other than texture replacements I don’t think I have. I do however installed a ton of follower and quest mods(the popular ones like Vigilant). And I downloaded them just based on dl numbers. Didn’t even check if it edited the world space or made a new world space. Same with followers. Didn’t check where they resided and just wanted to be surprised when I do find them. Edited December 20, 2023 by killatopak
killatopak Posted December 20, 2023 Author Posted December 20, 2023 I give up. Tried disabling all of them. Did nothing. Tried checking references to the quest itself but it’s just vanilla updates and skyrim esm referencing it. My only guess is the quest marker got sent to a different world space made by the quest mods so it’s not showing on the Skyrim map. Similar to vanilla radiant quests in Skyrim leading you towards Solstheim. I’m like level 15, on survival mode and very early in the game. It’s gonna take a LONG TIME to complete this quest if it’s exactly that situation. I’m still open to suggestions though but in the mean while, I’ll just ignore the quest.
No - this staff is for the Jarl's "Vogt" - he wants to impress his "boss" with it --- There are several staffs of this type in the game and at least one of them is always in the same place... a cave southwest of Riften... which is almost exactly south of this one farm. There are a lot of animals in the cave... bears and wolves... and a dead NPC with a name Edited December 20, 2023 by Miauzi
anjenthedog Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 (edited) As long as you can progress the questline and the staff isn't one of those "you gotta use this gizmo" staffs, I suppose it's not that big a deal push come shove look up the quest id and bump it to wherever it needs to be to allow completion. https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Onmund's_Request Edited December 20, 2023 by anjenthedog
