Nulak Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Hello guys, it's been a while since i last moded Skyrim SE and last i checked this version was the latest (downgraded at the time) and everything was fine, so i was wondering if it's still ok to use this version or update to a newer one. Thanks in advance!
traison Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 For a new install, 16.640 is the default. I'm on 1.5.97 with no intentions to ever update. 3
If you don't want to add mods that require the AE version (1.6.xxx) - you can leave your working system as is. I also decided against switching from the SE (1.5.xxx) to the AE - the mods I want to play with are all also available for SE. 1
Just Don't Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 49 minutes ago, traison said: For a new install, 16.640 is the default. 1.6.1130 actually. That's the 5 dec update. Problem with that it's the plugin version increased from 1.7 to 1.71, so new plugins created with the latest version will crash old executables. There's also support for expanded ESL records. There are mods to backport or ignore the plugin version (example). But there was also several changes to the official ESM and several BSA files. You'll likely need to be extra careful when grabbing new mods, add the countermeasures to avoid crashes or directly update your game and downgrade the executabe (and keeping the backported ESL functionality), this would ensure you have the latest assets with compatibility for the 1.5.97 executable. You could also update and downgrade to 1.6.640 which at this point had almost full compatibility.

anjenthedog Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Yes 1.5.97 is still just fine for the majority of mods, although in a few cases, mods are "AE" specific. Just check the mod requirements and make sure the specific download file is compatible with 1.5.97 if its not encapsulated in a fomod...
Nulak Posted December 13, 2023 Author Posted December 13, 2023 Thanks for the advice guys, very appretiated!
OrcishOatmeal Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 Im still using 1.5.97 and was wondering the same question! Glad to find this thread actually I agree with everybody else with no reason to update, its just the general worry of buggering up my install and making it worse as one mod has been abandoned and im stuck for example
