Here's another look at the scene with Liza that was previewed in the last big development wrap-up!

Skin color variations that account for character customization are already being added to scenes too, as you can see here:

Any adventuring party that lives long does so because they have a good healer supporting them. In Mana Quest's party, that role falls on Kalala and her many alchemical concoctions. Rather than performing magic through spellcraft like Mave, Kalala is highly skilled at infusing items with mana to imbue them with skills and magic she can unleash at the right time.

 

Kalala comes to Hoppe on a research grant from her academy when she runs into our story's hero and decides to join your party. You'll find her skills invaluable to you during worldhopping adventures. Aside from providing healing and combat support, she can use her keen senses to find things hidden in the environment and harvest usable items from plants. She brings a lot of skills to the team in a small, cute package. :3

 

Everyone's favorite rat brat wasn't always a rat at all, but beside that there have been relatively few changes to her design and role in the group. It'll be interesting to see thoughts on Kalala once you all meet her. Will you want to correct the brat, or will you think she's perfect as she is?

A game where you farm, engage in mercantilism, and go out adventuring is naturally going to have a lot of items. While not the most exciting update, a lot of work has been going into Mana Quest's inventory to make organizing and using your items a breeze! Who can use what and what's currently being used are important things to know, so the inventory comes with a handy visual guide built in.

A chibi on an item's tooltip means it can be used by only that party member:

Items that can be used by multiple will show the icon of each eligible girl:

As a matter of fact, female protag was a stretch goal on the kickstarter, which was met! You'll be able to choose between male and female during character creation, and the female player character will be a futa for story and not-having-to-make-twice-as-many-scenes reasons.

What's a game with a harem of monstergirls if you can't self-insert? To that end, Mana Quest will feature character creation to allow for better immersion!

Here we have a look at the default male and female clothing for the player character, as well as the three skin tones that are being included as variations in scenes with the girls:

As a follow-up to last week, here's a look at a test version of the character creator working in-game!

The window and sprites are all PLACEHOLDERS here, but you can see the features of the final character creator will includes hair styles, facial hair, hair colors, eye shape and colors, and an array of accessories to suit your style. The plan is to have several options for each of those, providing a great deal of variety for a relatively simple character creator!

It’s time to introduce the final party member. Bonfi serves under you as a powerful melee DPS, a dragon assassin whose draconic traits you’ve already glimpsed in earlier previews, including her full dragon form that doubles as a flying mount.

Like the rest of the cast, she’s seen her share of design tweaks, but her core identity as a veiled assassin has stayed the same. For now, she keeps things strictly professional. All you really know is that she treats this mission like any other merc job, hints at a military past, isn’t familiar with Hoppe’s customs or currency, and never removes her veil. It feels like she’ll need time before she opens up.

It’ll be exciting to hear what everyone thinks once you get to discover the different sides of her in the game later on! :3

Bonfi is the latest member of the cast to get some touch-ups to her style! Firstly, her neutral pose got reworked because the old one was pretty stiff, as seen in this handy comparison:

Then her expressions got updated to make her cuter. :3

Username checks out. :cool:

 

First off, mad respect for doing your art in-house and not surrendering to AI slop. Anime style can be hit or miss but this cast just shines personality. There's a shocking dearth of "cozy" harem games, and while I've never played Stardew Valley it looks like I'm gonna learn to farm!

 

I keep forgetting this site has a board for indie projects. This is seriously impressive work: I've seen a few RPG Maker titles with customized PC sprites, but never in such detail. Thank you for including a futa option: this genre being what it is, it's almost always a male lead, but when there's no in-game transformations I always prefer a female avatar.

 

That the final build is intended for free public release feels too good to be true. I wish you the best of luck, and will continue doling out reactions since apparently this site has a daily cap. :P

However this is not the case, the free public release will be an early access version rather than the final build of the game. It’ll include the completed prologue and the beginning of Arc 1 (the game is planned to have 5 arcs total).

 

That said, all of the core systems will already be finished by then. That part has taken a while since I’m developing the game solo, only commissioning help for certain things here and there, and I’ve had a few setbacks along the way.

 

Once the public release is out, though, I’ll finally be able to focus almost entirely on creating new content instead of being stuck deep in gameplay/mechanics development =w=
