Nuverotic Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 So what are your thoughts on AI, ChatGPT, or AGI in general? Are you excited about ChatGPT? Do you use it? I’ve had a lot of ex’s and most of them were drama queens or cheaters since they live in their own reality 100% of the time and if they don’t think you’re giving them enough of whatever it is they currently want, they’ll get it elsewhere. So let’s say the drama was trauma and I have 3 kids that live with me and I’m single. (I’m getting to a point, trust me). All that being said, I am EXTREMELY excited about AI and the possibility of robot women you can buy and program to your specifications. At least I hope that becomes a thing in my life time. I know people have a lot of mixed feelings about this. But what do you think? Let’s hear some opinions.
Guest Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 Speaking of AI artwork specifically, I have no problem with it. People who generate and post their own non-ai artwork *do* need to take care of posting it and looking at protections against art scrapping. The problem comes if they don't understand that a platform their on freely allow the scrapping of their imagery for AI use. That and people like those on DeviantArt, as an example, who have artwork posted and haven't been around for awhile don't have their work tagged properly so they won't be AI scrapped... Not sure if DA took measures to grandfather in old artworks. As far as the AI bot thing goes... I'm definitely of the mind, as I'm sure a lot of people on LL are, too let other people do as they wish and be who they are with hate or judgement. Anywho, this post reminded me of Detroit Become Human. Not sure if many people out there have seen or remember Cherry 2000. Was a good movie.

Don´t want to crush your Dreams here buddy, but we don't even have self driving cars which wont just immediately try to kill the closest cyclist as soon as you let them loose. So yeah, AI´s which can pass for humans isnt something we will see in the next decades, and them becoming commercially available is even further into the sci-fi realm. 17 hours ago, Nuverotic said: Are you excited about ChatGPT? Do you use it? As a software Developer, I have to admit its a neat productivity tool. You can delegate simpler task and snippets to it, but its not the magical crystal ball some tech bros make it out to be. It can and will fuck up. And you still need skills in your respective field in order to properly utilize the thing. 6 hours ago, joestapf said: Speaking of AI artwork specifically... This one is a mixed bag... Similar to the text based AI´s it can be a great productivity tool. One example that comes to mind is this little game called Startsector I occasionally play. There is a mod for it on the Nexus which adds hundreds on ai generated portraits for the generic NPC´s in the game, thereby reducing image repetition while staying stylistically consistent. And I think thats the perfect use For AI. Use it for background stuff which no one will pay close attention to, but you kinda need it regardless. Problems arise when people discover one of these AI tools and then think they are actually artist or see a quick way to make money. (Side note: Pretty much everyone here on LL who posts AI "Art" is of that latter category and it´s just cringe) And I think I´m not completely alone with that sentiment. Pixiv for example has a filter for AI content because people got fed up by it. And its understandable why. The "Artist" are just spamming out low effort stuff which pretty much looks identical between all of them. And to further disincentivize those sorts of folks, Pixiv fanbox (their built in Patreon analog), has outright banned AI content. Which I think was a good decision. So TLDR: AI can be great if used by the right people for the right purpose, but needs some regulations to avoid exploitation by the less talented individuals.
steelpanther24 Posted October 14, 2023 Posted October 14, 2023 I think someone already made a movie about it. Spoiler 1
sen4mi Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 From my perspective there's fictional AI and real AIs. The fictional AIs are exciting (and vicious - many people seem to love horror in the mix of their entertainment). The real AIs are a bit boring, and a lot of the excitement seems to center on glitches. But they can do things that other approaches struggle with, so.... 1
