How to prepare for 2023 update?

Hi there!

I'm sure many of you already know that Fallout 4 will be getting an update sometime this year. As far as I can tell, this update will break certain F4SE mods (it will require new F4SE) - and that's a big problem for me as I'm running a lot of F4SE mods. Granted, some F4SE mods will probably still work, but some won't.

How are you going to prepare for the update? I've already disabled the auto update feature on Steam (I've set it to update only when I launch the game; but I'm only launching it through MO2). Should I back up the game's root directory?

Also, regarding those F4SE mods... Which ones are most likely to break?

Generally, I'm looking for advice. I've played the game for years ('borrowed' copy), and I only installed it through Steam in February of 2020. Because of that, I've never actually experienced a new Fallout 4 update as the current version was released way back in late 2019 (if I'm not mistaken).

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You can set steam to not update Fallout 4, then use Mod Organizer to launch the game without updating it. That should work as a solution until the script extender and broken mods are updated.

Try not to update. As far as we know, this update will be much more fundamental than previous updates. The entire ce engine will be replaced, and will switch over to some of the new technologies that have been tried out at Starfield. It is difficult to predict all the changes, and how they will affect mods. Definitely, it is better not to become a pioneer. )

Are you guys getting fishing too?

They'll be fishing for Blinky.

Anyway, welcome to what Skyrim community has been going through since November 2021. "It just works" (tm).

How exactly?  I tried to set my update option to "Only update this game when I launch it" but the damn setting won't stick.  It automatically switches back to "Keep this Game Updated".
