This is an issue with texture maps. These skin textures chr_amy_skin_dif_HD, chr_amy_skin_fal_HD and chr_amy_skin_spc_HD already looks good because they are apart of the base game.

I tried different colors for fal and spc and I can't get it to look good with the game lighting I also tried changing random settings in HEIO material properties and still doesn't look good. I don't know if I can make it look good with the game lighting.

Does anyone know if its possible to extract/insert a clean sprite sheet from/into a gba rom?

I'm attempting to replace the Amy sprites in Sonic Advance 2 with some I found online using YY-CHR. While it is working and I'm seeing the replaced sprites in-game, it is horrendously tedious having to constantly make new bitmaps and I'm not even able to change ALL the sprites because I can't get some to line up nicely in the program, especially the character select and ending portraits.

I have also looked at the decompiled version of the game and tried changing the sprites there but a couple problems arose.

1. Whenever I try to replace the sprite in the png, the black pixels just disappear. It might have something to do with the alpha.

2. I would have no idea how to compile the finished product back into a gba file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, this is more for proof of concept than anything. The sprite sheet i found is missing a lot of "in-between" sprites so it wouldn't even be a complete replacement.

  1. I'm able to re-export a sprite from the sa2 decomp project with GIMP and Aseprite just fine with no missing pixels. It's possible you might've exported it wrong.
  2. There are instructions on how to build a ROM but it's complicated if you're not familiar with Linux environments and command line interfaces. If you're using Windows, you have to install WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) then use WSL to install the required dependencies before you can execute a command that builds the ROM. I might be able to help out with the building process since I already have the decomp set up.

I honestly think that the decomp project is the best place to make a nude mod for Sonic Advance 2 since you can just edit the image files directly as oppose to trying to align sprites together while editing them. Though it's still going to be tedious with how the sprites are organised with non-specific filenames that aren't human-readable.

Is there really no nude sonic mod for frontiers?

We almost did. A couple years ago, AlonWoof was making a nude mod for Sonic and even Big but we haven't heard anything since.

At this point in time, we might as well hope for someone else who's actually active to make one.

I would need a link to join those servers. I have to find someone that would help.

If I did my digging correctly, graphics/obj_tiles/4bpp/anim_0364 all the way through anim_0454 should be the in-game Amy sprites.

Also, I was originally using a bmp file for the nude sprites and I thought that might have been the problem but after converting it to a png to match the decomp, it still seems to turn the black pixels transparent. I am using GIMP.

Maybe I should add it to my megathread. It's not super active or anything, but you might be able to find what you're looking for.

Guessing this is for 2011 Generations? Not the one attached to Shadow Gens?

Yes this is for 2011 Generations. It is not possible to edit models for 2024 Sonic Generations because this game uses x64 files and the formats are different.

Dang, so it's literally impossible? Like, never will be possible ever?

No it'll be possible at some point, just not yet. Technically it's possible already, but there's not exactly much activity.

It will be possible in the future. Importing it to blender doesn't work. HedgeModManager isn't compatible with this version of the game.
