Dark Souls!

In case you've never heard of it, it's a game where you play as a character simply named the Chosen Undead. Why are you chosen?

An ancient prophecy. Who's part of this prophecy? You, and anyone who dares make the pilgrimage. Is this game good? Yes. Is it hard?

Challenging for some, brutal for others, the game shows you no mercy at times, and you're never told where to go but "T-that's not fair!"

Who cares? Plenty is explained in the world, and you can always watch videos on concepts of lore later once you're more than halfway through. Where Can I buy it? On Steam, I recommend purchasing it. I've heard of FPS drops, and graphical issues! DSfix is what you need, altering that depends on certain things, there's a few guides about how to use it on Youtube. >Controller, can I use it? Yes, I recommend it, Google Xinput ds3 and learn how to get your old ps3 controller working for your computer.

Anyhow I would like to discuss DaS, and maybe number two.

Here's a really good trailer, it makes me quite excited.

A pocket guide without spoilers to boot.

Last but not least, this game will require a good amount of perception to learn to avoid getting hit by attacks. I recommend (if you played it),

to use MH tactics.

Here's another kick-ass trailer of DaS2. As well you can find DSfix on Nexus, and a number of other mods for higher resolution textures. If you have a good machine I recommend it.

In case you buy it off of Steam, or didn't know. There's some very good DLC that expands on the story, and reveals a very tragic backstory that fleshes out a few boss encounters. Many bosses are very tragic what happens to them, and it's a very human touch. Hollows are cursed undead who have lost all will to go on.. no "hope" to speak of, many chracters you meet.. it's not very heartwarming.

Here's that info qouted from my friend.

>Accessing the DLC

Kill the hydra in the Darkroot Basin, then kill the Gold Golem far behind it. If he isn't there, quit and reload your save.

Once you've placed the Lordvessel, go to the Duke's Archives and kill the Blue Golem near the top of the first lift.

Go back to the spot in the Darkroot Basin where the Gold Golem spawned and enter the portal.

Last note: Never. Use. A. Fucking. Guide.

There's an ambiance on the game that spoiled if you read up on anything too early. If you're stuck backtrack, and explore, you're not limited like other games. I'll give this thread a few days and see how it's doing.

Only played it for a hour and that was it.

Dude. You didn't really even read what I typed. You could have googled this and you can use your PS3! (Oh my!) Controller for everything, emulation, games (with controller support).

the instructions are clear as day.

Here's a funny twist, I don't even own a PS3........

For your information I played the game I found that it order to play it correctly I needed to use a Xbox remote.

Also your sarcastic attitude is not needed and completely unnecessary.

>own a Ps3.

That has nothing to do with it. I use my old controller from my broken ps3 fat.. so does it matter?

A wired Logitech will do, or 360 (wired) as well. Playing with keyboard & mouse is impossible and stretches a skill level that only an arena shooter master would have.

I'm allowed to treat anything I like with my usual attitude. It's never done me favors sure but if you're going to get impetuous and disgruntled you need to live a little more.

I thought there was already a dark souls/dark souls 2 thread?
Ark get a controller and play it, you won't regret it ;) honestly one of the best games this gen
Beat this game like 5 times, decided to do a no leveling run with a knight the other day. Bad idea. Got to the spider bitch's domain and she killed me like 5 times... >.< It's so nice to fight something that can oneshot you with an AOE attack that's almost impossible to avoid when your weapon does like 2 damage to her cause you have 12 (I think?) strength.

There are multiple dark souls threads:

DS 1:  http://www.loverslab.com/topic/1412-anyone-played-dark-souls/

DS 1:  http://www.loverslab.com/topic/8527-dark-souls-bad-news-to-pc-gamers-sleeping-dogs-good-news/

DS 2: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/11860-dark-souls-ii-announced/

Not sure why you started yet another thread... :dodgy:

And for the record.  I played DS entirely with keyboard and mouse.  The only thing I found clunky was trying to access my inventory.  Other than that, it was fine.  I'd rather take a kick to the balls than hookup a fucking controller to my PC to play games with.  Course I am an older gamer who has spent 20 some years with the keyboard\mouse combo.  Using a controller for anything except a racing game on the PS3 is like getting fisted without the benefit of KY.  Sure you can do it, but why the hell would you?   :s

>"Not sure why you started another thread..."

I did it because I wasn't looking for either DaS, DaS2, or DeS (Demon, and Dark Souls).

It doesn't take any dicking around to work, to get a controller working for the pc I mean. I can't emulate without a controller, or play certain games. FPS like Quake, Doom, and Serious Sam? I need a K+m (Love those games).

It really just depends. I wanted to discuss DaS but saw the trailers recently so may as well discuss both.

Your meant to use the search function to make sure no existing thread exists before creating a new one. It's common practice regardless of the forum you are on. If you had typed "Dark Souls" in the search you would of found them all.

@woodenstick

Yeah, I'll have to get one or at least remap the keyboard keys completely. I managed to pick up a boxed Prepare to Die Edition for £14 last year.

@Grega

Controllers help when you need quick reaction times, in my case GetAmped 2 and some piloting games as it is a lot easier to play.

I knew someone would say that. The K+M is rather nuanced, and very flawed, makes the game hard. I've never found it difficult, just brutal on the attacks for most enemies.

I didn't bother to. I rarely ever do when it comes to wanting to talk about videogames, or making threads about specific ones, excuse me for wanting to discuss a pretty good game.
