Achronight Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 I've been away from using mods in my Skyrim for a while. (2-3 years) I wanted to try Skyrim SSE instead of the legacy version I used earlier. I noticed there is an anniversary version of SSE. How many mods did it break ? Do I go back to LE ? Is SSE anniversary viable. Did the Mods update to work with it ? thx for your time.
Gh0sTG0 Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Hi. Now for SE modding is better to downgrade to 1.5.97 (That is now names as "SE"). Here is some manual, from where you can see how to downgrade (step 1 from manual) And then ofc you should check that you are using SE (not AE) versions of mods, most authors are marking them.

That was only true before there was a working version of SKSE for 1.6+. Within the last two weeks I did a clean install of AE, found all the necessary utilities, and installed every mod I wanted, including SOS (using the no DLL version). The only issue I had was that SOS-No-DLL doesn't enable SOSRaceMenu.esp by default for some reason, switch that on and Bob's your uncle.
sophiextime Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 So basically there is no issue now modding Skyrim Anniversary Edition with the latest AE 2.2.3 SKSE? i can use all the same mods i ever did with SE?
Cyzyk Posted December 14, 2022 Posted December 14, 2022 Just to piggyback onto this with a related question. Assuming I want to do a clean install and go with Sexlab and Deviant Devices as the main two mods to build off of, I suppose the order of operations should be something like this? Install Skyrim Special Edition on steam Downgrade to 1.5.97 (since I haven't seen any mention of DD being updated to work with AE, even if SKSE has) Make sure it runs Proceed with the process of finding mods listed as SE/SSE but not AE here on LL until satisfied Play 45 minutes and lose interest until Skyrim gets updated again and breaks all my mods 1
Just Don't Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Game updates break SKSE and thus most SKSE plugins (dll files). If SKSE has a release for the latest patch you still need to find mod releases for said latest game/SKSE versions. So the best way to check if a mod requires any special treatment is to inspect its content and see if it uses a dll or not. 99% of the times when a mod does (and thus requires a specific version of the game or SKSE) it will be explicitly stated somewhere in the description or file info. You can, and should always, disable/avoid automatic updates. That way no amount of future patches will break anything. These are two very basic practices (know the files you're dealing with, and get full control over your game and mod files) that anyone serious about playing modded games should try to learn.

Most mods will work but off the top of my head, I think there's no DAR (dynamic animation replacer) for skyrim AE.
