Hi all,

I've once again been bitten by the bug and I'm looking into modding Skyrim again.  My last attempt came to a screeching halt when I purchased SSE on GoG shortly after it came out and promptly realized that very little seemed to properly work with it.  Upon reading this thread and browsing through mods, I'm happy to see that a lot of progress has been made in this regard, but it seems to me that a lot of pitfalls remain.

I hope, by the end of this journey, to have a mod list that I feel comfortable sharing here, but despite having modded these games on-and-off for years, I still have lots to learn.  I was wondering if people could give me some general opinions on how commonly mods will work or be supported on the GoG SSE, whether the AE upgrade might be considered a requirement to really get anywhere, and any tips on testing things along the way or pitfalls to watch out for.  I'm not really looking for mod recommendations at this specific moment, although if you have any I'm glad to write them down.

My current understanding is that if something does not have a GoG version listed in its downloads (either explicitly, as GoG version, or with the specific version number), it does not work with the GoG SSE or AE, because GoG has a unique launcher that removes the microtransaction shop.  Is that correct?  I've seen some suggestions that the version numbers can be the same between GoG and Steam editions of the game.

Editing to add:
Ok, so in reading more, as long as the mod doesn't have a DLL that hooks into skse it should be fine on the GoG version, and many SKSE-using mods have updated for GoG?  Going to start building and see where I go.

You've probably already figured it out by now but if the DLL mod has NG in the name, it should work as NG mods are meant to work on multiple different versions of Skyrim. Just check the discussion thread of that mod and search for GOG, the version number you use or whatever and then test if you're still unsure.
