amigodemorte Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 My Skyrim AE recently stopped working asking me to update my SKSE, so I did. Now I get a warning that several key mods, such as JContainers, will not work. I attempted to update them, at least JContainers, and there are no updates. I downloaded the new SKSE through Vortex. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it, please somebody competent help me.

It's bethesda being bethesda again, releasing a tiny patch that does little of interest to anyone and coincidentally breaks tons of mods until they get updated.
amigodemorte Posted September 19, 2022 Author Posted September 19, 2022 I would love to leave things the way they were, but again, dumb guy, lol. Not even sure how to stop things from updating.
Just Don't Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 (edited) 1. Avoid Steam updates. Go to your Steam library, find Skyrim SE, right click and select Properties. Go to the UPDATES tab and select "Only update this game when I launch it" and "Never allow background downloads". Launch the game using the SKSE executable and always with Steam already open. (Optional) mark the manifest file for SE read-only: Go to where your Steam is installed and find the "steamapps" folder. Find the "appmanifest_489830.acf" file and right click>Properties. Near the bottom of the properties window enable the Read only setting. Press Apply/Ok and close that folder. 2. Downgrade. As sila already told you at this point the only thing you can do to have a playable game is go back to a previous version. To do this you'll need to get the Downgrade patcher. The specific file you need to download depends on the version you have (most likely 1.6.629?) and what version you previously had. If you had the previous AE update it would be 1.6.353, if you didn't had any updates since November 2021 it would be 1.5.97 (but I doubt this is your case). So unless I'm looking at the wrong file you would need the very last file "FullPatcher_1.6.629.0-1.6.353.0.exe". You also need to go back to the SKSE version you were using before this update, in the skse website pay attention to the game version each file has. If you were using 1.6.353 you'll need to go to the "archived builds" and get the "skse64_2_01_05.7z" file. Install it as usual but make sure any traces of other SKSE versions are completely removed. 3. Read. Whenever you install a mod verify if it mentions specific SKSE or game version. If the mod contains a dll file it will require a specific version of these (or else you get non working mods or errors). Remember which version of SKSE and SE you have installed. You shouldn't update mods that require a different version of these things. Edited September 19, 2022 by Just Don't 1
amigodemorte Posted September 20, 2022 Author Posted September 20, 2022 Thank you so much for the help. I have come to this community many times for aid and you guys always come through. Thanks. This was very helpful.
byowag Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Was just looking through some things today for the first time in a few days and see someone pointed you to the patcher. I just wanted to thank you for a good chuckle, thinking, "If you're still dumb, how is that a new problem?"

Now you have returned the comedic favor. lol

Thanks again, I am a little less dumb now. 1
