CTD on start up.

I am unsure of the issue. I sacrificed my install for an attempt at getting the same problems (thinking it was something on your end) It must be something with the windows areo mode or something. Many times after starting the game it should fix itself. I still am not happy with the fix. I might in my spare time figure out what the actual problem is and a definitive fix that isn't so clunky. Maybe that is impossible.

You will find many links to pages in my Sig that might help you with modding. One thing that will help alot is Read, Read, Read, then understand. ;) Many mistakes (noobie) is because someone got ahead of themselves and rushed thus made horrible mistakes. Take your time and you should be fine. If not post your issues again, if you can't find another post similar of course. In Sexout we use FOMM as the supported mod manager. There are lots of useful tools that it has as well. NMM can work but many have had issues with SExout and its mods. Not something for a noobie such as yourself.

Good luck with the rest of your modding! Glad I could help... now I just have to fix my installation... :(

I appear to be having a similar issue with this. I use Windows 7 as well and I always CTD as soon as the game loads. I triple checked my load and it appears to be in order, I even followed this tutorial which is the most common CTD error for NV and it didn't work either.

I have another post called "New Vegas Newbie" Since I just got the game today in the mail from Amazon where some people have been gracious to help me out but I think now its down to compatibility errors and not the modding itself. Been at this for hours now and am pretty drained. :( Any suggestions?

Edit: Here is my load order if this helps. People told me it was fine but it never hurts.

Wow that is a lot of mods. Thank you for the reply. I finally got the game working. Can I ask you something though? When I exit the game it crashes. Is this common and is there a fix? Just a minor nuisance now.

Yeah, I have no idear about that, I have the same problem as well and have yet to find a solution, it might have something to do with the sexout thing, but I don't have the bawlz to delete sexout and lose all my progres on all the sexout quests I have finished and risk orphaning some scripts

May I ask one more thing? I have NVSE installed and everything and Sexout is installed but when I get to the game loading screen it says Sexout requires V11 (or something cant remember) and it says I have version 0. Not sure what that means since I downloaded the latest Sexout file. :s

not sure, have you completely read the requirements for each addon, you need to read each mod thread carefully to check for requirements and compatibility issues, that is all I can think of, sorreh

also, do you have the latest nvse as well?

I installed the version Loverslab gave. They said it was important to use that version. Sorry if I sound like a idiot I just don't want to make any mistakes which can lead to hours of research and repairs. :s

lol with my setup I actually have done hours and hours of research, and maintenance it is usually mandatory when you mod games but otherwise, I am not sure, if it says to use that version, then follow it, also might be refrence to the actual game version, is it up to date?

lol with my setup I actually have done hours and hours of research, and maintenance it is usually mandatory when you mod games but otherwise, I am not sure, if it says to use that version, then follow it, also might be refrence to the actual game version, is it up to date?

Its version 0.3.0.2. It was shown in the How to For FNV Mods and Resources.

lol whoever said that load order is fine needs to stop being drunk, all the game dlc needs to be before any mods the load order should be

If this is referring to me, I never looked at his load order. It was a quote from the original post from months ago.

However for load order issues there is a nice tool that you should get use to using. FNVedit can be ran after loading your mods and using BOSS to sort them out. Many times it can tell when a master is missing and stop loading. Nice tool for light editing of the game and creating a merged patch if you are confident enough to do that.

Can I ask you something though? When I exit the game it crashes. Is this common and is there a fix? Just a minor nuisance now.

Yes it is a known Sexout issue. Something was glitched and that should be fixed with the latest version of Sexout. and finally there is a link in my sig "Fast Exit Fix" it is a known fix that can be installed and will stop the crash on exit regardless of which mods are causing it now or in the future.

May I ask one more thing? I have NVSE installed and everything and Sexout is installed but when I get to the game loading screen it says Sexout requires V11 (or something cant remember) and it says I have version 0. Not sure what that means since I downloaded the latest Sexout file. :s

You are missing  NVSE extender 11 . Check my sig for the link and then install it. After installing it correctly you will stop getting that message.

If you installed the version NVSE extender 11 then it is installed wrong. Pay attention to the folder location and know that it is a compressed file from this site and you need to uncompress the file. At least it was the last time I downloaded it. You can check the Sexout tutorial link in the sig from BruceWayne as well for the instructions. They are clear and easy to understand.

do you have the latest nvse as well?   - Its version 0.3.0.2. It was shown in the How to For FNV Mods and Resources.

You need the NVSE 3 beta2.7.z on the page. The link is in my sig. I don't know what you are referencing with the above in regards to NVSE.

Seriously look at the Sexout NG Framework - Installation Guide for Beginners by BruceWayne. Most of the issues you are having can be resolved by following that post.

1. I was not referring to you. If I gave you that assumption I apologize.

2. I got the exit crash bug fixed thank you. :)

3. I had a very small misplacement of a file that fixed that right up. A member helped me out. Sorry for the miscommunication.

4. Stated above just a file placement mishap.

5. Yeah I know. When it comes to mods you have to read read read otherwise things like this happen. I do read things and research but after going at this for 5 hours at the time I was very tired and ready for bed. My mental state was not at it's best. :s

No problems I just wanted to be sure that there wasn't any confusion. I was unable to look at the load order properly when I did look at it due to time. I was working on a project which is now up to help those loading SCR and getting all the resources up and running with as little fuss as needed.

Great that it helped. .. I got that fix from KainsChylde. Funny how the world goes around... :D

you had a lot on your mind and several posting on several pages. I did the same when I started here. At least you didn't post answers on the wrong pages like I did. Talk about miscommunications!

Yes and now. Wtih this site if you don't quite understand the post and instructions given. post a question. Just make sure you are clear and show that you have honestly tried to understand what is going on and for the most part people understand and help. there are members here where English is a second language. believe me that we understand that sometimes instructions can be confusing.

It is good that you have moved along. There will be setbacks again and again. You might want to pull your hair out, perhaps go bald.  :P As long as you continue trying to learn and solve your problems you will advance. Soon if you are willing you will naturally enter into modding.

I also bought a digital copy of the game on Steam and am having no luck getting the game to run.

I've tried several .ini fix suggestions, the launcher setting changes and windowed mode aswell. I've downloaded no mods and do have FalloutNV.esm ticked and placed #1 on my load order. I just don't understand how I can have paid for a game which does not work from the get go without me having changed any of its settings (at first) or installed any mods. My game "stops working" everytime right here:

Bummer, I was really looking foward to trying FNV out :(

With nothing else added and steam verified it might be some component of windows that isn't allowing the game to load properly. I had the same issue before when I removed the game testing for the OP here. I finally gave up and loaded a fresh install. (clean backup) with nothing but a fully updated windows system it started right up. That is the reason I believe there might be some settings that get changed or updated or something that causes it not to work well. Oblivion also did the same thing until this was done.

Normally CTD is because a requirement is missing from a Mod. This case it might be some component that is needed for the game to run that is missing or mis-configured. Other than this I don't know what to give you on advice. One thing that might be useful for someone reading this and trying to help you would be which operating system (and version x86 or x64). XP, Win7, Win8, Win8.1 etc.

Oh I see this post is quite old, I hope OP solved the problems... Anyway if he has just bought it I'm supposing he's using a fresh new install without mods.

And he was on FO3, while I had issues on NV. When I bought it on dvd I spent days to make it works, had to call for help since support was ignoring me. Steam did its job with checking its things and it was saying it was all ok. Anyway I found weird it was working on another pc, a lower one. After some tries we realized it doesn't like my video card and Win 7 64. To make it work I simply have to install an ENB, or at least one of those d3d9 you can find around as "fix", it must be inside NV folder or it will refuse to start. I'm not technical, not at all, since it was a d3d9 issue I just thought I had to update my DirectX (of course video drivers too), but it didn't solve. I didn't investigate more in 2 years since I bought it: if it needs an enb to work, it's ok for me...

Some general tips for Windows 7 64-bit users:

Also some general questions that may help in figuring out the issue:

- Are you able to run other Steam and/or non-Steam games (that run on DirectX, not OpenGL) without any issues?

- Do you see any new entry in the event log (run eventvwr.exe) when the game crashes?

- Do you see any errors in FOSE/NVSE logs, perhaps in Steam logs?

I've also bought both FO3 and FNV recently, I have Skyrim as well.

Haven't downloaded FO3 yet, and I doubt I would, but I did notice the warning on Steam page saying the game not being optimized for Windows 7, but I thought, by that, they meant the issue with quad core processors, so I ignored it.

Both Skyrim and FNV, on the other hand, run without any issue on my laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit English).

Earlier for the OP I had uninstalled the game and tried to start fresh. I also had a problem. This problem wasn't with the Steam or such. Hell the computer was working just shortly before and then stopped. I ended up with a fresh install (from image) and then before anything else installed the games and it worked again. I believe this is the issue she is having with her game. Something is not compatible that can be changed just I haven't been able to figure it out myself. Some have stated run in windowed mod for the mod a couple of times to get the game working then you can change back to full screen and the game will work as normal.

@Katarina:

Does the game finish playing the intro video before it crashes? In any case, try renaming the following file (just put a minus in front, like -FNVIntro.bik) so that the game skips it and then relaunch the game.

\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas\Data\Video\FNVIntro.bik

The problem is, the game doesn't have a sufficient logging mechanism, so it's very hard to tell at which point it crashes. If all else fails, I would try to find a pirated FalloutNV.exe that doesn't require Steam and try to run the game with it, at least doing that eliminates potential Steam related issues.

Also could you post the content of \Steam\GameOverlayRenderer.log here?

Try disabling Desktop Composition, this is a known cause of issues with games not designed to run on Windows 7. You can do this by right clicking on the icon for the game, in either Steam\Steamapps\common\Fallout 3 goty\Fallout3.exe or G:\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\FalloutNV.exe , then choose "Properties", next look for the "Compatibility" tab and put a check in the box next to "Disable Desktop Composition". I hope this helps! :D

Tried the version no modificaitonns and FO3 did crash. I changed this setting and it seems to work. It also works if you change from full screen to "windowed" mode

attachicon.gifFO3 Fix.JPG

I causes some strange note pop up as game is installing stating that it is changing the "mode" to basic. It continues and works. Open up the FO3 folder and look for the Fallout3  application and click properties and go to Compatibility and check the box. Found it on a web.

Yep. That and windowed mode are two of the main things after installing Windows Live or a windows Live disabled program. However some people still have problems. I have had this problem with FO3 not FNV. Curious that it is happening with her with FNV.

Correct. The original OP was for FO3 not FNV. It is curious that it happens for FNV. What is strange is I had the same issue when I tried to replicate the issue before and the only thing that seemed to fix it was a clean win7 install from image. This image wasn't updated to the most current. I wish we can find out this issue even if I don't have the issue and can fix it. Somethings causing this and it would be great if we knew the issue.

@katrarina

Try the solution on post 17 of this thread. Let us know if that helps. It worked for the FO3 version finally for the OP perhaps it will work for you as well.

As with the windowed mode, I had the same issue but I installed this,

http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/41381/?tab=2&navtag=%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D41381&pUp=1

Nice little mod, and if it serves me correctly GFWL is a auto download with digital Fallout 3, this downloaded and installed when I purchased the GOTY edition... as Windows 7 is not GFWL Compatible, but will install, run on any game that is linked to GFWL.

Sorry I was so slow to reply!

@bjornk

I have updated my DirectX - and yes I can run other games that make use of it.

I've never actually seen the intro video... the game crashes to desktop before that. I am a 64-bit user, but my Steam directory is actually not on my C: drive, I have it on D: :(

I did run eventvwr.exe but I'm not quite sure what to look for here, first time I've laid eyes on it. I'm also unsure where to look for the New Vegas logs you mentioned; I know how to check Skyrim papyrus logs but I'm new to Fallout. I assume it's a similar process but since I haven't even been able to run the game successfully once I've not set any logs up yet.

@carywinton since I did read through all of the thread's previously suggested solutions I had already tried this to no avail :(.

@ritualclarity I had already tried the suggestion on post 17. No luck  :-/ .

Before I forget, I'm not sure whether it makes any difference but I have the "Ultimate Edition" of the game, thought I should mention that. Even if I'm unable to get the game to work, I still want to thank everyone that took the time to try to help me, I appreciate it . Thanks!

@Katarina:

Have you tried running the game without using NVSE? You must delete all NVSE files in your game directory to test that. I have a feeling that NVSE is unable to load Steam as neither of the following DLLs appear in the log you posted.

nvse_1_4.dll

steam.dll

steamclient.dll

Do you see any errors in the following files in your Fallout New Vegas directory?

D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas\nvse_loader.log

D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas\nvse_steam_loader.log
