FivesWasRight Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 I have the latest version of OSA and OSex with its modules. I'd like to install OSTIM, but that requires uninstalling the current version of OSA so that I can install the version of OSA that works with OSTIM at the same time. The problem happens every time I try to load a save that has had OSA removed from it. No matter what I do, I cannot for the life of me save again on that save under any circumstances. I just CTD. Every single time. I have troubleshooted this a lot, here are just a few things I've already tried: Removing everything that could remotely be associated with OSA Using ReSaver to remove all scripts and any sign of OSA from the save file Installing the OStim-compatible OSA and OStim, then cleaning the save file with ReSaver Interesting result with this method: This actually gets OStim to completely work on the save. Everything is great. But the game still crashes on save. Installing the OStim-compatible OSA and OStim without save cleaning or anything I can actually save in this scenario, but OStim does not function normally. Even after being reset in its MCM, etc. There are just issues with it. It can't be activated from the OSA library, and scenes can't be exited. Plugins don't work Using the player.kill method I even tried removing everything OSA besides the ESP so that I could properly load that save after death without being returned to the main menu. Still crashed on save Used ReSaver to methodically remove every single script being run by OSA, to problem solve and see if perhaps one is causing the crash-on-save issue, while another might be all I need to remove in order for OStim to function properly. Miraculously: it was the same script for both. Removing it is the ONLY way to allow OStim to update properly while keeping OSA without creating a save that doesn't have OSA, and it is ALSO the script that once removed causes the crash-on-save issue Anyone want to take any crack at this?
Gukahn Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 Sorry to tell you but removing a mod mid game always put you at the risk of losing that save. Everything you've done are the things everyone knows to try or says you should try. Try in Big Letters then it won't always work. So, you fucked the Save up. Either install it back and hope it works again or make a new one

I know that many mods should not be removed mid-playthrough. I have also removed a lot of mods mid-playthrough and am 700+ hours into this run with 380 mods installed. OSA must be re-installed in order to make OStim work. It's not ideal, but it's the only way for a current playthrough that has had OSA on it to install OStim. Just hoping to get it working at some point if possible, but you are correct that it might not be possible.

Make a new save and remove the previous one from the C:\documents path

Guest Posted June 15, 2022 Posted June 15, 2022 I've removed OSA and OSEX many times mid playthrough without a problem. Maybe I'm special. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This imaginary world you live in sounds dreamy and rage erection inducing but the simple, plain, immutable, and unchangeable reality is you can never remove any mod that contains mutable assignable permanent variables from a skyrim save. ever. Period. The end. If a mod contains scripts, cloaks, spells or global flags, it cannot be removed without permanently altering your save.

I mean, I guess Skyrim is imaginary, but that doesn't change the fact that with ReSaver I've been able to keep this save through a lot of things, including a whole new operating system, re-installing my entire load order, re-arranging load order multiple times, removing mods, etc Was just looking for any new ideas to try to troubleshoot this as the usual ones, and more, have failed -- but worst case scenario I just keep playing without OStim. Not a big deal

Make a new save and remove the previous one from the C:\documents path I don't think I'm fully understanding. Are you suggesting I've been loading the backup save -- not the new one that ReSaver creates? Because I've verified that's not the case Or maybe I didn't explain the problem very well. I can't save in-game after loading up a game with the older version of OSA installed, or with the current version removed, or under any circumstances seemingly in which OSA has been changed. So if I can't save, I can't progress that playthrough at all. If I were making a brand new playthrough, there would not be an issue. There is a script OSA is running that upon removal prevents the game from being able to save. Even if I remove all record of that script in ReSaver. So, anyway, was just trying to see if I could get another lead or two to try out -- but again, not the end of the world. I'll use OStim on the next playthrough

I'll use OStim on the next playthrough You explained yourself very well, I was just saying that instead of overwriting one save on another or making a new one, it's the same thing, the only difference is that if you make a new save, all data is reset. Which means, starting over from scratch. This, to my knowledge, is the only way to see if your problem persists. Every single save you make in the same game, reads the data running at that time. Different mods or updates of the same mod, require precisely, a new game. As for deleting or removing older saves, just enter the path C:\Documents\My Game\Skyrim. There you will find the save data for both the game and SKSE. Simply select the folders and remove them. You can also simply move them to the Desktop if you need them for verification. Also, if you have Papyrus' logs, those should be deleted. Yours will be recreated from scratch as soon as you start a new game. Once you have restarted the game and all MCM menus are active, make a save, theory says that everything should work properly. 16 hours ago, FivesWasRight said: The most recent version of OSA and OSex? Because I've wondered if this is something, given the author's reputation, that perhaps is an intentional feature of the latest releases Reputation is irrelevant unless you have a mod that implies it in all actions. Updating the mod itself may create problems with others, which may no longer function properly if they too are not updated. To give an example, SLSO (SexLab Separate Orgasm) if it is not updated, may cause problems with other mods or even its own scripts because they are deemed obsolete. Updating the mod, therefore, requires a new game in order for the scripts to work correctly.
